I'm trying to set up a network on windows 7 Home premium, but could not find this secpol.msc. I read the posts on the guy with vista home premium and similar problems. I tried the advice given to him:

Open regedit and locate the key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contrl\Lsa\LmCompatibilityLevel

Set this value to 1 (is default on 3) "send LM and NTLM".
    See the Q823659 knowledge base

I got in the case of the LSA and found no LmCompatibiltyLevel, he was not in the file or it contained a folder with that name.

I also read a post from someone about windows 7 as follows:

On Windows 7 Home Premium, secpol.msc or this registry key is set.

However if you add a new key named LmCompatibilityLevel DWORD value at the specified location and the value of '1' it seems to work to allow
"Use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated".

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\LmCompatibilityLevel

But my problem I do not know what he meant by 'DWORD '.
If someone could help with this problem, it would be great.

  • Trying to activate downgraded re-installation of Windows 7

My laptop (bought about 18 months ago) came with Windows 8 Pro. I opted for this downgrade to Windows 7 Pro as 8 never worked this well and an attempt to pass to 8.1 has transformed into a very expensive brick that had a weekend to repair.

He ran very well under Windows 7 - downgraded under the terms of the original Windows 8 license. Everything was great until a week ago, when the SSD have not completely. I just replaced with a new one and reinstalled Windows 7.

However, he now asks to be activated and requires a product key that I don't have. Insofar as the instructions given here...

    http://www.Microsoft.com/OEM/en-GB/licensing/sblicensing/pages/downgrade_rights.aspx#fBid=2RKIRWucOEO

.. are concerned, I should just enter a valid product key that has already been used. The important thing is that the window 8 license is valid for the computer on which I am the instillation. However, I'm just an error telling me that the product key of Windows 7 is "invalid for activation" and to acquire one, try another or contact technical support.

The contact option used to provide a number of phone, but instead gives me just a pop-up Help with no contact information at all! The popup box when I enter the product key even said that I can contact them by phone!

I know not how I would prove that I have a machine with a valid license of Windows 8 "attached" to it, when the software has been completely deleted and Win8 doesn't come with a product key to provide as evidence :-/ All I need is a key of Windows 7 Pro one-shot to get the machine running :(

  • Cannot activate the 3rd computer with Windows 7 Family pack

I have three computers and all were running licensed copied of Vista. I bought the "Family Pack" upgrade to Windows 7. I have implemented customized installs on all machines - no problem. Activate the first two online perfectly. The third party will not activate so I used the method of the phone. The automated waiting requires the 9 key series of 6 figures and said so I have to answer the questions. The first question is "how many computers have you installed this license on? The answers will take you to a report that says: "we're sorry, but you do not meet the requirements of this license." I am invited to stay online to get help and the system is then said "we cannot help you at this time, please call back."

I tried 12 times over a period of three days - all times of day and night. Same result. I don't know of any way around that. I know that I have 30 days to activate, but I don't want to wait.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you.

    Greg

Try to say 2 when asked how many computers have you installed license on.  Maybe it's that this license is not installed until after you enable.  Just a thought.

  • I tried to activate Win 7 Ultimate product key, but I get a message that says that the product key is blocked,

I had to perform a clean install of Win7 Ultimate on Win7Pro, which recorded data may in a window.old directory.   When I installed Win 7 Ultimate, it would install with Win 7 Pro installed, so I've had to do a clean install which has formatted the hard drive.

I tried to activate Win 7 Ultimate with the product key, but I get a message that says that the product key is blocked and I cannot activate my installation of Win 7 Ultimate.  What are the options?
One of the solutions is to re - install the original program, Win 7 Pro and then re install Win 7 Ultimate.
It seems like a repeat of the whole process that I just finished.

  • New laptop comes with Windows 10, want to install Windows 7 in place but freezes everything in

Just got an Acer Aspire ES 15, which came with Windows already installed 10.

I do not like the windows 10, would be nice instead of Windows 7.

I tried to boot from my CD with Windows 7, but once I did the "loading files" bar and I'm on the 'starting Windows' screen, four circles colors that generally revolve around all loading, just freeze and the installation does not go further?

Any help would be appreciated. I tried to boot from a USB, but when I hit F12 I not give me the option to boot from it!

Thanks guys, but I think I have actually solved!

For someone who has similar problems, do pass the boot sequence in the BIOS of UEF1 inheritance. Freeze DVD ROM? When you come to format, we'll tell you that Windows is unable to format one of your readers because they are GPT partition style.

To convert the GPT on the MBR, simply delete all partitions and create a new one. My Windows 7 is currently 17% in installation.

For a long time I didn't do anything this techy on a computer, impressed!

  • Upgrade my Eee PC with Windows XP to Windows 7 Professional.

I'm trying to upgrade my Eee PC with Windows XP SP3 to Windows 7 Professional. I get an error Code: 0x80070005. Please advise... anyone?

    The upgrade to Windows XP?

Please read these instructions carefully and completely before you begin installing Windows 7: there are important steps that you must follow to upgrade your PC from Windows XP to Windows 7 in order to preserve your files and settings.

Before you begin, you'll need to backup all your data to an external storage device, and you will need all the installation discs for the programs that you want to keep. Please make sure that you have an external hard drive (see details below).

More detailed instructions are available at windows.microsoft.com/upgrade-windows-xp. Here are the basic steps.

    1. start Windows Upgrade Advisor (windows.microsoft.com/upgradeadvisor) to see if there are known issues that may affect the installation and the question of whether you should install the version of 32 or 64 bit Windows 7.

2 back up your files and settings on an external hard drive using Windows Easy Transfer (windows.microsoft.com/windows-easy-transfer). If you do not have an external hard drive, you will not be able to use Windows Easy Transfer. Alternatively, you can copy the files you want to keep on a USB stick, CD or DVD.

    3. you will need to manually reinstall your programs, such as Microsoft Office, after I installed Windows 7. Gather the installation for your programs and all partner/license product key discs. You may be able to download programs from the Internet. For example, Windows Live Messenger can be installed from the download.live.com/messenger.

    4. Insert the Windows 7 DVD in your PC. When asked "which type of installation you want. Click on "Custom (advanced)."

    5. when Windows 7 is installed, use Windows Easy Transfer to restore your files and settings.

If you are not comfortable Windows 7 installation, check with a local retail or the services of the PC company store to see if they offer upgrade services. Releasing it's easy: with Windows | ActiveWin | Laptops | Microsoft MVP

MSDN provides Windows 7 license in retail, Volume, and the academic channel.

As long as the product key matches the edition, it should work.

On MSDN or TechNet product key

They are genuine Microsoft product keys, they are in fact retail licenses, but it is expected for a product specific Microsoft Software Developer Network (MSDN) and TechNet channel for professionals who pay a subscription. The main objective is for evaluation purposes. The big thing to their subject, unlike Microsoft, MSDN or TechNet keys evaluation software expires. Because the agreement by virtue of which the subscription is provided is a single license, none of the software should be distributed outside of it. Although its $50,000 worth of licenses, it is for one person only for use and no one else. Unfortunately, no matter the conditions of license, people still abuse of the program, two key product gift or sell on auction sites. Microsoft it issues licences in good faith that customer will not do it, but I guess human nature win on.

In your case, what has probably happened is, you bought a license MSDN key, which carries up to 10 activations unlike packed full of retail licenses which carry 1 activation. The person who sold it to you probably sold to 10 other people. Somewhere along the way, one of these people could have installed on a second system activated, because it went past 10 activation threshold, Microsoft has detected that he was abused and blocked the key for later use.

If the machine came originally with Vista, and you charged it with Win 7 disc by the same manufacturer, it will go into a grace period and the non-genuine end - the key used for this installation requires data appropriate to the SLIC table in BIOS in order to activate it.
