Turn off DEP in hardware

I have a HP Pavilion dv9000 running Vista Home Premium SP1.  I'm trying to remove Norton Internet Security in order to install a different virus program.
Uninstall Microsoft immediately blocked and uninstalling Norton works partially before stopping with a message that it has been terminated by the DEP.
I ran the prompt for the value of nx AlwaysOff, restarted and confirmed the code SupportPolicy = 0.
Rerun the tool Norton plant yet.
Should I turn off DEP at the hardware level - this possible?
Thanks for any advice.

Hello

Disable, not uninstall, all the components of Norton, including all startup entries, services (use of msconfig for it) and restart. Once disabled, you should be able to uninstall components without DEP problems, because the software will be more active.

On the DV9000 series, I do not believe that the BIOS supports in all cases turn off DEP at the hardware level. Good luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Crazy" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com Windows help - www.rickrogers.org

  • Turn off DEP

DEP has been added to my laptop for an update and it will not connect to AOL for my e-mail address.  I tried changing the settings, but it makes no difference. How can I disable it?

DEP is included in XP by default (not some update) and DEP is on your system for a purpose - to protect your system.

If you get the DEP errors, this means that the XP will be threatened by some reported application, then XP shuts down the offending application as it is designed to do.

Instead of manipulate the DEP settings or turn off DEP, it makes more sense to understand why XP will be threatened and actually solve the problem and difficulty is not only the symptom of the problem.

  • Software Bloggie Touch does not work because of the DEP - I can't turn off DEP for this program

Original title: software Bloggie Touch does not work because of the DEP

I downloaded the Bloggie Touch (Sony) software, but the function of prevention of execution of data in Windows Vista prevents me from using it. Any suggestions? I contacted Sony and they had me re-download the software on their site, but it did nothing. I tried to reset the DEP to allow the Bloggie software, but he says that the processer wouldn't let me do that. Message: I can not turn off DEP for this program.

  • How can I turn off DEP

Original title: how to disable DEP?  He keeps everything stop.  I followed the steps, but it didn't work

I recommend strongly against disable DEP and instead find the cause of the problems and try to fix it in place (just after these problems in detail and we might be able to help).  But if you insist on neutralising him, here are the instructions:http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/120778-dep-enable-disable.html.  You need to be logged in as an administrator to do this.  If the problem is related to specific programs, DEP may be disabled for these programs while remaining active and thus solve the problem without disabling overall - here are the procedures:http://www.mydigitallife.info/2007/01/15/disable-and-turn-off-or-enable-or-turn-on-data-execution-prevention-dep-in-windows-vista/.

I hope this helps and I hope you decide to try to fix the problems or to disable only for problems where it causes problems rather than turn off DEP in the world - but it's your decision.  In doing so, you delete an important part of your security features of the system and can open yourself up to the intrusion or infections (and possibly other problems caused by programs that could cause harm to the system).

    Good luck!

  • Turn on DEP for all programs or Just essiential

OK, I have windows 8 and my processor supports hardware (Data Execution Prevention) adj. I sorta understand the concept of DEP however not enough to know whether it should be enabled for all programs or all necessary programs or since my processor hardware DEP can I disable DEP Windows?
All the information to help me understand better and an answer would be thank you much.

    Hi Peter,.

Data Execution Prevention (DEP) is a security feature that can help prevent damage to your computer from viruses and other security threats. Harmful programs can try to attack Windows by attempting to run (also known as execute) authorized the code from the locations of memory system reserved for Windows and other programs. These types of attacks can affect your programs and files.

DEP can help protect your computer by analyzing your programs to make sure that they use the system safely memory. If DEP notices a program on your computer using memory incorrectly, it closes the program and notifies you.

It is not recommended to disable the DEP. DEP automatically monitors essential services and Windows programs. You can increase your protection by having DEP monitor all programs.

First, see if a version compatible DEP for the program is available by visiting the website of the software publisher. If the Publisher has not released an updated, compatible version DEP for the program, you can turn off DEP for the program that was closed. You will be able to use the program, but it might be vulnerable to an attack that could spread to your other programs and files.

If you choose to turn off DEP for a program, it's a good idea to check frequently for an updated version of the program and, after you update, to turn on DEP again.

Let us know the status of the issue. If you need help, please after return. We will be happy to help you.
