Turns off Windows Defender...
Whenever I stop my laptop computer Windows Defender goes all out alone the next time that I reboot. Anyone have any idea why this is happening? If so how can I solve this problem?
I'm pretty sure I'm free malware that I ran a few different products on my machine.
AVG free edition & Norton Internet Security 2009 to name a few (they are both up-to-date.)
I went to Services and restarted the service of Windows defender from there, and that seems to have solved the problem. I rebooted my system a couple of times and Windows defender is turned on. still good thnx

Hello Steve,.
Welcome! Thanks for posting in the HP Support forum.
Usually, if you install the 3rd AV software part (for example, Kaspersky, Norton, McAfee, Tredn Micro...) it allows to disable Windows Defender. However you can do it manually.
Several options are described here

Something in my system turns off Windows Defender.
Something in my system turns off Windows Defender once from time to time, and I have to keep back on.
I am running Windows XP and security programs I use are Microsoft Security Essentials, Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool,
Spybot Search and Destroy and Ad-Aware from Lavasoft.
I normally have all running at the same time, and with Spybot SD have also resident 'SD Helper' and 'Tea Timer"active.Any ideas what could cause this problem?
Hello
As you use Microsoft Security Essentials, the reason for this is that MSE has its own version of the Defender as part of its program.
Using both programs at the same time can cause system conflicts, etc.
Read this information about it:
"Windows Defender and Microsoft Security Essentials on Windows 7, Windows Vista and Windows XP.
Q: I have to manually disable or uninstall Windows Defender, if I use Microsoft Security Essentials?
If Microsoft Security Essentials does not automatically uninstall Windows Defender on XP, you must manually uninstall Windows Defender through Control Panel of configuration/Add / Remove programs.See you soon.

I think I accidentally turned off Windows Defender by using Windows Defender. Now, Windows Defender does not start. How can I get this start?
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/turn-Windows-Defender-on-or-off
Turn Windows Defender on or off the information on the link above of Microsoft.
And also read this:
If you have Microsoft Security Essentials, AVG, McAfee, Norton, etc. installed, they have a conflict with Windows Defender, or turn it off.
Microsoft Security Essentials has its own integrated version of the defender and it automatically disables the version of Vista in Windows Defender.
See you soon.

Why security essientials keep turn off windows Defender. ?
Why essential security keep turn off windows Defender?
Hello
Windows Defender features are included in MSE, defender of loading would be redundant.
Windows Defender antispyware =
MSE is antivirus + antispyware.
Then think about MSE as Windows Defender with more added (which is).
===========================================
Here's what I use and recommend:
Avast and Prevx proved extremely reliable and compatible with everything I threw at them.
Microsoft Security Essentials and Prevx have also proven very reliable and compatible.Avast Home free - stop any shields is not necessary except away from Standard, Web and network is working.
Prevx - Home - free
Windows Firewall
Windows Defender (is not necessary if you use MSE)
Protected IE - mode
IE 8 - SmartScreen filter WE (IE 7 phishing filter)
I also IE always start with asset if filter InPrivate IE 8.
(Sometimes you have to temporarily turn off with the little icon to the left of the + bottom right of IE)Avast - stop home - free - all shields you do no need except leave Standard, Web and network running.
(Double-click the blue icon - details look OK. - upper left Shields - those that you do not cancel).
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.htmlOr use Microsoft Security Essentials - free
http://www.Microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/Prevx works well alongside MSE or Avast
Prevx - Home - small, fast, exceptional CLOUD free protection, working with other security programs. It comes
a scan only, VERY EFFICIENT, if it finds something to come back here or use Google to see how to remove.

http://info.prevx.com/downloadcsi.asp <-->-->PCmag - Prevx - Editor's choice
http://www.PCMag.com/Article2/0, 2817,2346862,00.aspAlso get Malwarebytes - free - use as scanner only. If you ever suspect malware, and that would be unusual with
Avast and Prevx running except a low occasional (not much), updated cookie and then run it as
a scanner. I have a lot of scanners and they never find anything of note that I started to use this configuration.I hope this helps.

No need to worry, Windows Defender and Windows Smart Screen are built into Windows RT and help protect your PC against viruses, spyware and other malware in real time.
Refer to the help article:

How will I know that I turned on Windows Defender?
Hello, welcome.
If please, go to the flag in the task bar and click on it, click Open Action Center, expand the chevron of security, spyware / malware protection-click see installed antispyware programs and you'll see it there. Don't forget that you have an antivirus, I'd say you Microsoft Security Essentials to http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/ , just click on this link. Note that if you install MSE, it will turn off Windows Defender by default.
Kind regards.

Hi George,.
Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft Community and we can help you with your problem.
According to the description, you are facing problems with turning on Windows Defender. To help you to propose measures to solve the problem, I would appreciate if you could answer the following questions:
1. what security software is installed on the computer?
2 did you do changes on the computer before the show?
You must have security (anti-virus) software installed on the computer.
More than ONE cause of slow system, freezing injuries, programs not to work properly with Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) disables Windows Vista Defender as MSE has its own integrated version in Defender.
You can follow the steps in the article mentioned below and check if it works:
Error message when you run Windows Defender: «Error 0x800106ba»
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/931849/en-us
Also see this article for more information about Windows Defender:
Enable or disable the Windows Defender

Hope this information helps. Please come back for any clarification on this or any issue of Windows. We will be happy to help you.
