two different backups of a machine on a Time Capsule

I've updated to El Capitan a couple of days. I don't know yet how it will. I am having some problems that I am trying to solve before trying to return to Yosemite, if that's even possible.

Just before the update, I made sure that my Time Capsule of my system of Yosemite Backup has been updated. Then I disabled the automatic backup function so I wouldn't crash my Yosemite backup. I would like to start my El Capitan of backup system without affecting the Yosemite Backup somehow, because I could still need. The Capsule is large enough (2 t; my internal drive is 500G). Is it possible to "partition" the Capsule of time this way, to protect one of the backups be affected?

Thanks for any help!

Is it possible to "partition" the Capsule of time this way, to protect one of the backups be affected?

Actually, no. Partitioning, we should open the time Capsule (which will cause the nullity of the guarantee), pulling on the drive to put the drive in a SATA to caddy USB, implementation of the partitions, and then reinstall the drive in the Capsule of time... in the hope that things can work.

And... it is not necessary for what you're asking. Just continue to back up your Mac using Time Machine... and note the date of your last backup using Yosemite, in case you want to revert to this version.

  • Two Macbook Air sharing a photo library on time Capsule

I'm trying to set up my 2 TB time capsule to store my photo library and library iTunes music.  My wife and I have a 120 GB 13 "Macbook Air running OS X El Capitan Version 10.11.12 and backup via Wifi to the time capsule.  I want to be able to view, download, download and manage the library both of our computers and so that to use on our iTunes music library.  We have separated Apple ID as well, but we are bound by family.  We take most of our photos with our iPhones (5 and 6 respectively).  Our library is ~ 100 GB and our library of music is about the same size.  It is currently stored on a 500 GB external hard drive that is connected to a Windows PC that we no longer use.  I have several questions on how to achieve this:

    1. Is this possible?
    2. Two MacBooks see the images and the music library at the same time?
    3. Music albums and photos are available when not on our network?
    4. If I open the Capsule in the Finder and open the data file, can I create a file of data next to our backup files server and put all the data?
    5. What is the best way to get the data from the external hard drive (formatted for Windows) on the time Capsule.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Is this possible?

Laughing out loud. at least not without great risk to your photo library. What kind of photo software is... that you are hosting it now on windows?

iTunes isn't so bad but photos is designed by apple to be shared via the cloud. Not on the local network.

Two MacBooks see the images and the music library at the same time?

The two computer cannot load the library at the same time. Yet once, I guess that your photo app is the local of photos of El Capitan.

Music albums and photos are available when not on our network?

With the help of the CCMM it's possible... but again, it is certainly the wrong way to do things. If you try any kind of remotely change, I'd put the chances of corruption from 50% to 90% about.

If I open the Capsule in the Finder and open the data file, can I create a file of data next to our backup files server and put all the data?

Yes. But I think that you will have problems with permissions.

What is the best way to get the data from the external hard drive (formatted for Windows) on the time Capsule.

Copy directly on TC drive from your windows computer. But the fact that since the Mac, otherwise you will have permissions issues directly before you create.

I highly recommend get advice on the specific app you use to library... Ask in the photos area. Apple did not build a server of photos or iphoto version... they have build a cloud version. That is how they intend to use it.

They warn the risk of corruption is very high. If you try this make double sure you have good backups updated library. He's easy to corrupt if you use wireless LAN because applications are not designed for local service.

TM cannot back up the readers of network so you can buy Carbon Copy Cloner for example or something of the sort.

Please be double careful and triple aware of what you want.

  • two different backup based CBT products can save the same vm without affecting the other?

POS and Veeam use CBT for backups after the full initial.

What will happen if they save both the same virtual machine?

I checked on this several years ago and the information available at the time seem to indicate that it works very well (the details seem to have fled my organic storage)

right now I use veeam backup replication and vsphere production Dr. (partly because I had hoped to go back to SRM).

Several years ago I used WTP (when it was new) and it worked perfectly to recover from a failed san (luckily I had just updated to the first version of the direct recovery so it was easy and very fast).

stop using POS due to problems of maintenance cycle in progress where he had run more and more long and never ended.  redeployed several times and even had not involved with support no resolution therefore had to move away from the product.

now, I would like to back (especially since it is included with the enterprise license), but needed if ensure that it does not affect backups of production using the CBT.  I can do some testing of course, but thought ask and see if anyone has any information to share.

    Thank you

From a technical point of view it should not be problems, unless the application of different run their backups at the same time.

CBT marks the changed blocks using a ChangeID which is incremented whenever someone creates a snapshot. Applications determine the blocks changed since the most recent backup by requesting a list of blocks with a ChangeID higher than that of their last backup/replication.

  • Can I use Time Machine for several different backups?

I have my 500 Gb HD Macintosh that saves on two external hard drives (two 500 GB), so I always have two backups! But I have another external hard drive (1 TB) with a lot of footage on it I want backe up on top of a new external drive (1 TB)! It is possible to configure Time machine to do it automatically for me, also two different backups?

TM can run a backup plan. You can include the other external drive backup on the backup TM drive or the existing disks as well as your Mac HD drive. You can save all the new 1 TB disk readers (or readers if you want to add others). 500 Gig drives are not big enough for all readers of backup too.

What you might consider is use SuperDuper or CCC to back up the other disk to the new 1 TB drive.

  • 'No available backup disk', Time Machine is not more Time Capsule

I have a time Capsule 2 TB and it has been used by Time Machine for many months.

A few days ago the Capsule detached from his power and today is now connected to the new.

Time Machine reports the error "backup disc not available."

Time Capsule lights are green, AirPort Utility is showing this device being lit also.

Time Machine knows how much space is available on this unit. However, it is not able to use this device to register older backups or to create a new.

I don't see this device in the Finder, although I couldn't see him there when everything is working well.

Airport utility indicates an IP address for this device and I can ping.

What to do now? Isn't it at least possible to mount to access the files on it?

You don't need to do this.  What you have described is a way to do it, but this isn't the only way.

If d1 and d2 are the two DATEs, you can get year, month and day of d1 combined with hours, minutes, and seconds from d2 liike this:

    TRUNC (d1) and (d2 - TRUNC (d2))

Nesting TO_DATE and TO_CHAR in Oracle, is almost never the best way to do anything.  Oracle provides many functions (for example, TRUNC) to manipulate dates, but also of DATE arithmetic.

  • Sierra Time Machine / Time Capsule problem

After installation of Sierra, I am unable to use Time Machine to a Time Capsule.

There was a MacBook Air with two bootable partitions. The partition Macintosh HD has a system of Yosemite and the score of 'second' was a partition of El Capitan, which was created by a clean install and then allow Migration Wizard copy on Macintosh HD, all accounts, settings, networks and other files. The two partitions have been saved by Time Machine to a Time Capsule. The Macintosh HD partition has been erased and Sierra has been installed on Macintosh HD and Migration Wizard was allowed to copy during the second all accounts, settings, networks, and other files.

Time machine has not worked since. It gets the error message 'no available backup drive.' However, using the Finder, I can get the time Capsule, open the sparsebundle and see all the individual backups. Because I had erased Macintosh HD, I went through the steps to http://pondini.org/TM/B6.html 'reconnect to my backups. Which made no difference (probably because Time Machine is not really see her driving the sparsebundle to the Time Capsule, even if the Finder does no harm to open it).

Then I tried to select again the Capsule as the backup drive. It asks for a password. I give the password and shortly after it comes up with the error message: 25299 Keychain error when creating a system keychain to the URL entry and the user name '< name >' "afp: / / < name > @2%20Tb%20Time%20Capsule._afpovertcp._tcp.local./Data.

(where < name > is the name of the logged-in user) I get the same error message if the user is an independent Director. Despite saying that it was not able to create an entry in the system Keychain, Keychain Access shows that there is an entry with the password. In addition, despite being unable to choose as the backup drive time Capsule, he mounted and left on the desk, the time Capsule (containing the sparsebundle) data folder.

    Any suggestions?

You are the second today with errors of Keychain.

Time machine on network not connection

Sierra is a new OS will have a few bugs... but I think that the way you did this configuration is problematic.

Actually, you have now two partitions with different BONES, but they will have identical computer names (migration has more the name). And it could also spoil the UUID of the disc.

I guess, but I would say

    1. change the name of the computer.

    2. start a new backup... do not try and link the existing backup.

    3. If you still have no success Delete TM (A4 Pondini) plist and reconfigure.

    No post luck returns.

  • Time Capsule backups fail 'lack of space'

I have two 3 TB time Capsules airport here at home network with an iMac and MacBook Pro 2.  All computers are up-to-date with the latest version of the software for Mac OS x (10.11.5) and the two time Capsules have been updated with the latest firmware yesterday (May 30, 2016).  I get the same error message that does not respect the backup, or for both, readers of time capsule due to lack of space.

How is that possible?  I thought that TC permanently erased the last backup to make room for the next backup... aren't these differential backups?  Are a number of safeguards supposed to be kept?  Or over a certain period of time?

Is the solution here to add a few more disk space for the time capsule airport with USB drives?

    Thanks for your help.

    John

Time Machine usually works very well to delete backups of older (and small) "extra" type on the Time Capsule, but if the disk is full, and all of a sudden you add lots of new data to your Mac as an update of the operating system, or enlarge them or video files... which adds a lot of new data to your computer... and then the Time Machine can not delete older files to make room the new, much larger that new normal backup which would be necessary.

When this happens, you have 3 Basic, in order of most expensive options on the bottom:

    • Add another new Time Capsule and start backups to go
    • Add a USB to a Time Capsule and start to go back up
    • Clear the Time Capsule disk and start over again with the backups with the drawback that you will lose your history backups

In fact, there is a fourth option... that I do not recommend... and it is to go back into your files to backup using the Finder and delete older backups manually.  The drawback here is that it is a long and tedious process, and there is a very real danger that the entire file backup for Mac may be corrupt, make the file useless.

  • How can I find missing backups time capsule?

Installation of El Capitan in September caused my incoming mail to stop after a certain point, although he showed millions of so-called items waiting to be downloaded. After many attempts of troubleshooting, I went with my last resort for fitness and do a clean install of El Capitan.

When I went to my Time Capsule to restore my documents and applications showed none of my previous backups using the Star Wars. There are available dates in the timeline view, and the time Capsule shows my oldest as backup being December 1, 2015 after I ran the backup check, but I don't see anything beyond yesterday.

Backups must be present on the Time Capsule, because it shows "tuberculosis 1.14 2 TB available." My sparsebundle (only 13.2 MB) indicated no mountable file system when I double click on it. It also has . tmp.sparsebundle as the extension. There is no other sparsebundle showing.

I was looking for answers online and this forum and have yet to find a resolution. My first care in disk utility failed after a few hours, then immediately when I tried again. Any suggestions? Is it useful to fitness again? I did not choose the time Capsule to restore initially. I wanted to see if the mail would work before putting the time restore everything.

Time Machine, please press the shift-command-C key combination. The windshield will show the mounted volumes. All snapshots should now be accessible. Select the one you want and search for files to restore.

If you need to restore from a backup of the hidden user library folder, first select a snapshot, and then press shift-command-G. A go to the folder dialog box opens. In this document, you enter the path to the folder. The dialog box will help you by automatically filling parts of the path when you start typing.

The path starts with the slash character ("/"). Enter that. The rest of the parts is separated by slashes.

The next part is the date and time of the current snapshot. Enter a '2', and the rest of the date should be filled in automatically. Press the right arrow key to access the end of the path. Enter a slash to start the next game.

Next is the volume name (usually "Macintosh HD" unless you assigned a different name.) Start typing, then jump to the end and enter a slash.

The next part is 'Users', followed by a slash.

Then is your short user name. It is also the name of your home folder, which is represented by an icon of the House in the sidebar of a Finder window.

Finally, enter "Library", and then press return. You should now be in the library folder. From there, you can move like in the Finder. You can also select another snapshot of the same folder.

  • Backup to Time Capsule and an external hard drive

    Hi all

For several years, I use as a router Time Capsule and a backup device. Recently I found information about to associate an additional external hard drive for backup. For me it's a backup just to be sure when my Time Capsule would fail.

I found information on the internet that it was easy to switch between the two devices. I connected the external hard drive in the time Capsule.

But after installing the external hard drive my Time Capsule is not able to back up more!

Please, could you help me find a solution. It would be great for me.

    Many thanks in advance,

    Diana

I suggest that you get first back ups goes again on the Time Capsule, then we can discuss adding the USB key as a second backup source.

For now, if please power off the power and unplug the USB of the time Capsule.

(Gear on the dock icon)... open Mac system preferences, then open Time Machine

Make sure that Time Machine is running

    Click Add or remove disks

Under the backup drives, make sure that the Time Capsule disk (named 'Data', unless you have changed the name) appears

If it isn't, then click data under available disks

    Then, click on disk use

Close the window and now, click the 'clock' Time machine at the top of the screen

Click on NTI Backup Now and who should get backups start on the Time Capsule

After the return when you have confirmed that this is the case

When I run the application Time Machine, Time Capsule is not detected. I tried the two WiFi and with cables connected Ethernet (not tried USB yet) and my Time Capsule doesn't have a lightning bolt or firewire ports.

Open Airport utility & see the airport time capsule. I can see all connected devices, including the MAC, but no prompt activation Time Machine on the Time Capsule.

I recently used TM on this iMac with a G-Technology drive. It auto detects the time machine and executes a back up. But airport Time Capsule will not.

    Any suggestions?

Sierra has been problematic with the TC.

    1. make sure you don't have any charge virus protection software. In fact, I would say that disable all software 3rd part at the moment.

    2. make sure that you can actually write to disk of TC.

Attach the TC disc in the finder and copy a file on disk, you can delete it later... It's just to ensure that you have full write permission. If it does not for the most part, you won't be able to use Time Machine... If you can then try TM immediately...

Just to be clear, the TC is a network device. You have tested with ethernet and wireless... Ok.. They are only suitable methods. You cannot use USB. And clearly, TC has never had nor will never be ports Firewire or lightning.

    3. no chance that a reset complete TC. This will not delete the files on the hard drive, but you must make sure that the device is configured on the current computer.

    4. There are many positions in these days... read through them and do some research. Sierra is a bleeding edge new... So wait you to spend a lot of the precious liquid if you choose to be an early adopt.

We understand your current configuration of the network with the Time Capsule (TC). Is the TC the only router on your network? What is the brand and model of the modem Internet you have directly linked it by Ethernet?

Normally you use a wired connection or wireless between the iMac and the TC? This always was a problem or just started to happen? If she just started, have you changed any software/firmware on the iMac or TC?

  • How can I save a USB on my time capsule with time machine?

    Hello

I just bought an external USB flash/thumb drive, believing I could extend the memory of my currently complete macbook (OS X 10.7.5), while maintaining an up-to-date backup of everything on my Time Capsule. (I was planning on dumping my pictures/videos on the new USB and free up space on my macbook).

I already formatted the flash drive USB is now 'Mac OS external (journaled). I then tried to remove the exclusion of preferences list flash drive Time Machine (by selecting 'options' and then selecting the '-' button to remove the disc highlighted). He appears to remove the USB key at this point and allows me to save and close the options box, however it is always not backup external USB drive on a Time Capsule format.

Subsequently, on rechecking the box Option Time Machine preferences, the disc that I just removed from the exclusion list, is back on the list!

The impression that I'm going in circles... Is there something that I am missing, or another way to automatically back up this drive?

    Thank you very much.

First of all, unless you intend to keep the reader flash connected all the time, is really no interest in what you want to do. Simply copy the data from a backup other than the Time Machine backup disk drive.
