    Hello

the laptop came with a 64-bit OS of Windows 8 to address preinstalled.

I wanted to also install Linux Ubuntu 13.04. 64-bit office.

At the start of the installation of Ubuntu, is not giving me the opportunity to install Ubuntu with Windows 8. It is said, that it has not detected a different OS (called OS) on the disk. But there are 8 Windows installed!

I am not competent in Linux operating system installations, I like fooling around with manual installation.

In BIOS it is selected "UEFI Boot" and "Secure Boot" is disabled.

The installation procedure has worked, but why he recognizes that there are already Windows 8 is installed.

    Hello

It seems that Ubuntu has problems to install alongside Win8.
I've seen several posts in the various bodies in this regard.

I have no solution 1 button for you. In fact, I have no real solution at all.
Instead, I'd like to direct you to a (global) guide that may be helpful.
But I suggest you to keep that you:

    (1) create a recovery media for Win8! In case things go wrong, you can freely download Ubuntu as many times as you want. WIN8 recovery media will cost you money in case where you have not created them.
    (2) make backups of your important data!

  • Ubuntu installation on workstation 5.5.9

I want to install Linux Ubuntu on workstation 5.5.9 and clarifying some details:

When you create a new virtual machine, it is possible to specify the size of the drive, GB - whose size would be perfect for Ubuntu?

Also, should I tick boxes 'Allocate all the space now' and 'split the drive into 2 GB files?

    Hello.

will be the last 10.04.1desktop ubuntu works well on Wmv 5.5.9? (VMware installed on Cel 2.66 GHz with 2 GB RAM)

The first version of Workstation to officially support Ubuntu 10.04 is Workstation 7.1, there will probably be problems with the old version.

When you create a new virtual machine, it is possible to specify the size of the drive, GB - whose size would be perfect for Ubuntu?

Of course, that depends entirely on how much space you will need.  If you are testing just, then as little as 10-15 GB should be fine.

Also, should I tick boxes 'Allocate all the space now' and 'split the drive into 2 GB files?

The separation of 2 GB is a good option to use.

Another question: I currently have a virtual machine that is running Win XP. No doubt will be one is enough, you can choose the one that makes the most sense. If you do not need to leave the host with network traffic, use VMnet1.  If you have to go out with network traffic, then use VMnet8 or bridge connection (which is probably VMnet0).

    Good luck!

    Heya,

I try to install Ubuntu 10.04 RC 64-bit on this box, however, when I boot the installation media, I get:

"This core requires a 64 - x 86 processor but only detected an i686 CPU."

I did some research and I've seen this thread:

    Anything else?

You may have already checked this, but have you turned on VT in the BIOS and then makes a cold reboot after that?  You can use this utility to check if you should be able to run 64-bit guests.  Do you have other running 64-bit guests?

  • Toshiba HW in Ubuntu installation?

    Hello

I use a Toshiba Satellite L655. It came with a Win7. The first thing I did after buying was to annihilate Win7 and install ubuntu 10.10 on the entire hard drive (not a dual boot or Wubi install). Now I want to try ubuntu 11.04 beta from a live usb, and I'm changing the boot order. The laptop does not start from the USB key. I'm unable to access the BIOS. I tried pressing ESC, F2 etc while turning on the laptop. So far, I have not been able to access the BIOS Setup.

I tried Googling and I read on laptops from Toshiba "without inheritance. But do not know if mine is such a. Now, I have Win nothing in my laptop. I have only ubuntu 10.10. I need to access the BIOS Setup and change the boot order so that my laptop boot on the USB. How can I do this?

Toshiba has developed hw to Win. There is a similar one for Linux?

    Any advice would be welcome.

At first, I must say that Toshiba doesn't support Linux and doesn't provide any tool or utility for Linux OS.
Anyway, it doesn't matter what operating system you have installed, you should be able to enter the BIOS settings and it must be F2 at startup.

When you start your laptop Toshiba welcome screen will appear and at the bottom, you will see little info line where is written press F2 to enter the BIOS or F12 to get into the boot menu.

You can enter menu STARTING using F12 at startup?

  • Dell Inspiron 13-7352 ubuntu installation?

    Hello.

I bought this phone today, I put my USB to boot ubuntu, press F12, select USB and Ubuntu install, run, and then the system has been installed.

When the laptop has rebooted the screen is stay at purple screen :(

The same memory has been tested in other laptop and work: S

Why can't I install linux? I need gnu/linux because I am developer and is very important to my work.

If Dell has no linux support I need change the laptop and buy HP laptop (like my last laptop)

    Kind regards!

I got it to work! It took a while, but that's exactly what I did. I'll try to enlighten as much the problem as I can.

    Step 1:

Download Ubuntu LTS 64 bits of Ubuntu.com 14.04.2

I have not tested the latest version then I would say using the LTS version because it certainly has support for UEFI systems. It MUST be 64-bit. 32-bit has no support for UEFI systems.

    Step 2:

Download UnetBootin Linux Live USB Creator. This Boot Disk Creator will make bootable using UEFI which is ABSOLUTELY necessary.

    Step 3:

UnetBootin allows you to create the startup disk.

    Step 4:

Press the start menu and reboot the PC while now the key [SHIFT]. This will take you to the advanced boot of the windows boot loader menu.

    Step 5:

In the advanced boot menu, press 'Use of a device' and boot from the USB drive.

    Step 6:

Select "install Ubuntu along beside the bootloader windows"(or something smilar) installing Ubuntu. "." This will install correctly.

    THEN YOU'RE DONE!

I hope this helps! Finally, it worked for me!

  • Reviews of Ubuntu does not start after the installation of updates

I have a Windows 10 host and a guest Office Ubuntu 15.10. Ubuntu installs and runs fine until I have install updates, and then it gets so far through the boot sequence, but blocks trying to start the GUI.

    What should I do?

    Hello

can confirm: after installing the last invited Ubuntu patches of the slaughtered 3.16.0-62 core during startup.

Latest posts is: failed to start the vmware services.

logfile VMware stops at the loading HGFS subsystem.

To access the guest computer resolution: Boot with advanced options (hold SHIFT to start, until the menu loader grub is shown). Now select boot option (!) lower than 3.16.0 - 62.

With 3.16.0 - 60, the guest operating system will start normally. Reinstallation or reconfiguration of the vmware tools don't fix this behavior. If something seems broken with kernel 3.16.0 - 62

    Any solution with core 3.16.0 - 62?

  • Portege M300 - Ubuntu, bootmgr error

    Hi guys,.

I hope you can help, I spent 2 days reading similar posts, but nothing seems to work.

I installed Ubuntu on an external hard drive (using my Vista machine). Can I boot Ubuntu from my Vista machine without any problem.

However, I now want to use this hard drive Ubuntu in my new NetBook (for me). (Toshiba, Portege, M300). However when I install my Ubuntu HD in this machine I get the infamous error "bootmgr is missing". I REALLY hate this error now.

So I did my research and give EACH of them thinking that I should use my Vista recovery DVDs for this problem. Why the hell do I need to use a Vista CD when it comes to pure Ubuntu installation?

Can someone give me some ideas? Computers laptop Toshiba require Bootmgr (i.e. an installation of windows?)

    Please PLEASE help,
    Marc

    PS thanks in advance...

You don't need a special boot manager, Linux should start very well after a successful installation.

Did you delete all partitions on the HARD disk before you install Linux?

It seems that the Windows boot sector is still installed.

  • Installation of Linux on Satellite C850-12R

    Hello

I bought Toshiba Satellite C850-12R and I want to add a linux beside windows 7 preinstalled installation, and I have a question:
Shrink a partition of windows by default and then this free space Ubuntu installation, done problem with possible resumption of default Windows (I mean, when I would go back to the installation of the fresh manufactor)?

Or should I just format entire disk (also remove recovery partition and this strange partition after the Windows partition), fresh install of Windows 7 (I have a disk with a windows 7) and then install ubuntu?

    Thanks for any help.

PS I hope I post this thread in an appropriate sub-forum.

You can install Linux. No problem at all, but please note that Toshiba doesn't support Linux OS and you're on your own with it.

Before you do this and begin to change the factory settings create recovery disk. Don t forget it.

  • Toshiba, make Linux - Ubuntu drivers for USB bluetooth

Toshiba, please make good Linux - Ubuntu drivers for your USB bluetooth. I was unpleasantly surprised noting that there is no driver available for Ubuntu. Please could someone explain THE reason for such a policy failed to Ubuntu users?

The problem is Ubuntu here. The Bluetooth adapter is directly connected to the USB bus, so it should work without any problems if the OS is delivered with the appropriate software to Bluez. Try to update your Ubuntu installation (apt - get update). Make sure bluez is correctly installed.

  • G3 book Z 17: Z book G3 default to install linux (Fedora or Ubuntu)

I got a new Z book G3 which came with pre-installed Windows 10. It has two discs. The first

I want to create a dual-boot machine with Fedora Core 24 as the other OS.

I resized the Windows partition using disk management, and which seems to have been successful, because I can still start Windows 10.

I tried to install 22 CF and various versions of CF 24, as well as Ubuntu 16.04 without success. I use CF iso DVD in a DVD USB drive as the installation media.

The installation of live meda CF disk will well up to a point. The last line printed on the screen of the installer is always:

[OK] Has started the user for UID 1000 Manager

    Then it hangs forever.

There are hundreds of lines before this line, but I can't understand how to capture them. The lines just above the failure are:

[OK] Created user slice slice of liveuser

From the user for UID 1000 Manager

[OK] Started user liveuser Session 1

I've got Secure Boot disabled and Legacy Boot enabled in BIOS.

I also tried the installation option low-resolution graphic "Troubleshooting" of the iso FC DVDs. even result.

I checked that the integrity of the iso installation using SHA256SUM.

I had similar problems (not identical) with Ubuntu.

Can someone has suggestions for how I install linux on this book Z?

    Chad

I now 16.04 Ubuntu and CentOS 7 installed next to Windows 10.

For other linux users who want to install write on computers HP Z book G3, here's a recap of what I've done for activating facilities:

    1. Ubuntu LTS 16.04. Installed using iso DVD via DVD USB drive. To install, enter the BIOS (hit escape repeatedly just after switching on). Choose settings BIOS or similar, set install from file, then find the correct file for the USB key.

Ubuntu installation screen is normal and informs you how to access the Setup command line. Do it and add "nomodeset" to the command line, near "ro" and "calm". Proceed with the installation. Once installed, you need to change the set grub to include 'nomodeset' as a standard kernel option. Edit /etc/grub.d/10_linux and add "nomodeset" just before "ro". There is probably a better way.

2 centOS-7. I ended up creating a USB bootable using dd and a downloaded iso file. See

https://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/InstallFromUSBkey. During installation, you must enter the BIOS as in (1) above. Once you start from the file, you will be presented with a mutilated wishes installation screen. You can always change the Setup command line by using 'e '. Add "nomodeset" as before, then press F10. Everything should be normal after that, you will see the graphical installation of CentOS screens. Unlike Ubuntu, once you have installed CentOS, you don't need to edit the grub implemented. I have no idea why. (I'm in over my head here).

    3. fedora Core 24. Without success to report, but now that I have Ubuntu and CentOS, alongside W10, I have need to pursue this further at the moment. I suspect the steps in (2) above, or the like, will work. You will need to "fly blind" when editing of the Setup command line and can be change grub after installation.
