  I am running XP Service Pack 3 and were unable to access the Windows Update page for a few weeks now. I get an error message saying that "Internet Explorer can not locate the page".   Thanks for posting your concern for the Forums for Support and sorry about the problem you are having. To help you the best I would need the failure error code. I will quote the steps to get the code of failure below.

  • Go to the Control Panel
  • Make sure that in the upper right corner of the ' view by ' is selected for both small or large icons instead of the category.
  • Go to "Windows update".
  • You will find on the left in the list 'view update history'.
  • In the list, the status of the various updates would b mentioned in the second column.
  • There will be updates failed, you need to right-click on it and click 'see details'.
  • On the next window, there will be "Error Details" section with code 8xxxxxxxx.

   

  These are the codes that are required. Please write us back with these codes. And also for resolved errors you can try to install the updates individually.

  • You have to go back to the control panel > windows updates.
  • In the list on the left choose "check for updates".
  • Once the updates is enabled, it will be little important and a few optional updates.
  • First click on the important updates and a list would be populated, choose the updates one by one.
  • After an update is installed and the le redemarrage reboot the PC, choose the second update and continue in the same manner.

  Hello Stephen,

  Try to login as an administrator and update the password for your limited account or try to start your system in safe mode and see if you can log in as an administrator.

  If you are on the home screen, you press CTRL + ATL + DEL (combination of three keys) twice to access the login prompt. Also confirm if you can change your username and login from there.
