Unable to add host to the distributed virtual switch

Hello

I'm trying to add a host to a virtual switch distributed through API (ReconfigureDvs_Task).

I'll put the following text:

VMWareDVSConfigSpec - configVersion, host

DistributedVirtualSwitchHostMemberConfigSpec - operation, host, support

DistributedVirtualSwitchHostMemberPnicBacking - pnicSpec

DistributedVirtualSwitchHostMemberPnicSpec - pnicDevice

Reconfigre_DvsTask fails with the following error in vcenter:

An error occurred during the configuration of the host. the exception (vim.fault.PlatformConfigFault)

VCenter newspapers also have the following information about this error:

[error 04244 "utilshostMethod"] [HostMethodDispatcher::ProcessTaskResult] The appeal [createDistributedVirtualSwitch] host [host-*] failed with the exception [vim.fault.PlatformConfigFault]

    Add-dvSwHost -dvswitch $dvsW.ExtensionData -hostmoref $esx.ExtensionData.MoRef -pnic $pnics -nruplink $pnics.Count

  • Unable to add host to the dvswitch

    I don't really know what I'm doing wrong, so I hope someone can point me in the right direction.  My goal is simply to add a new ESX4 host to an existing dvswitch.  Here's what I do step by step.

    Open vSphere client, go to the home - & gt; the inventory - & gt; Networking

    Click on "dvSwitch-DVUplinks" (the only rising dv group I)-& gt; Tab hosts - & gt; Right-click in the white area, select 'add host... '. »

    The add hosts Wizard opens.

    I specify the host name, user, password - & gt; Next

    Summary host is displayed (Dell PowerEdge 1950 - VMware ESX 4.0.0 buil-175625 "with no virtual machines listed - & gt;) Next

    I assign a valid license - & gt; Next

    Choose the only possible place where the dvswitch - & gt; Next

    Then, the server is added.

    However, it is not listed under the hosts for dvSwitch rising as the other host is.  Moreover, when I right click on the dvSwitch itself and add a host, the host is not listed, or the physical cards in it.

    I don't know what to do at this point.  I used this exactly the same procedure on the other host and it worked just fine has also imported the standard Exchange provided with the host.

    In regard to this specific host (vs1) is the only network on this config:

    vSwitch0 = vmnic0 vmnic1 (physical cards)

    Service console vswif0 = x.x.x.11 (vlan 107)

    VMKernel Port vmk0 = x.x.x.101 (vlan 105)

    VMKernel Port vmk1 = x.x.x.101 (vlan 106)

    When this is allowed, vSwitch, vmk0 and vmk1 are configured so that mtu 9000.

    If you dig into the Layer-3 switch configuration, the ports are set to mtu 9000 & jumbo frames are enabled.  The configuration is identical to the host is functioning correctly (ha6).  The iSCSI SAN & 1 vmk0 is attached to has an MTU of 8000 and is able to correctly traceroute and ping to the configured default interfaces and MTU 8000.  iSCSI works correctly on both hosts.

    The VLAN 105 and 106 is configured on the dvswitch-ha6 is having no problem at all with the connectivity.

    I can't simply add in the dvswitch vs1.

    You have Enterprise Plus license in place? I ask the dvSwitch ability depends on having an Enterprise Plus license.

  • Unable to add host to the vDS 5.1

    Hi all,

    I have two infrastructures:

    (1) vCenter 5.1.0 build 880146 with 6 host 5.1 upd1

    (2) vcenter 5.5 upd 1

    I want to spend hosts of VC 5.1 for new vc 5.5

    I have export vDS vcenter vcenter 5.5 5.1 5.1

    I moved and added 4 hosts without problem to new vc 5.5 and vDS

    Now when I try to add the last 2 hosts to vDS I received this error:

    vDS operation failed on the host esx06.sf.local, obtained an exception (vim.fault.ResourceInUse)

    vDS operation failed on the host esx07.sf.local, obtained an exception (vim.fault.ResourceInUse)

    How can I move the last guests?

    Thank you all for your suggestions.

    Can you try to put the host in a maintenance mode and try adding them to the DVS switch?

  • How to restore a distributed virtual switch.

    Hello

    I have a question where one of my esx host 4 i crashed and then we rebuild the host vmware and I have the backup of the file esx.conf with me since the day before. I had a virtual switch distributed in the vmware environment, and since I rebooted the backup config that my vcenter does not add the host esx to the distributed virtual switch.

    -How to restore the vswitch distributed on the esxi host settings.

    -When I look on the esxi configuration host configuration file indicates that DVS information are uploaded but vcenter does not overwrite the new settings.

    troubleshooting performed up to now

    I restarted the vcenter and all services and same problem.

    forced file configuration several times and same question

    has taken the esx host that out of the inventory and the same issue.

    any other suggestions.

    The answer to this has been found in Vcenter 5.1 where there is an option to save the DV switch. I connected this bug a few years back with vmware and this problem is fixed in vcenter 5.1.

  • Distributed Virtual Switch 5.1 update

    Hi all

    We have a vmware vsphere Cluster with 7 v 5.1 ESXi hosts 838463

    We have the form of upgrade version 5.0 to 5.1 ESXi ESXi and vCenter Server since version 5.0 to 5.1 September 2012.

    Now, I noticed that (just a little late...  ;-)) all the distributed virtual switches (we have 2 DVS) need to upgrade.  Version of DVS resulted, in fact, to be 5.0.

    (I saw in vSphere client connected to the server vCenter Server - networking).

    I wasn't expecting this behavior, DVS independent upgrade of host or vcenter server upgrade?

    It is possible DVS upgrade during the normal activity of the infrastructure?

    Thanks in advance

    Anna

    Think about the situation,

    don't forget that a dVS is a virtual switch split on all hosts, if the dVS has been automatically upgraded to the new version and there were incompatibilities or new features that were not available in the switch downstream you might run the risk of a network outage.

    in my opinion rightly done VMware cela a phyiscal post upgrade task,

  • A distributed virtual switch and create Portgroup

    I'm looking to automate the "creation" of the distributed virtual switches and exchanges.

    I was unable to justify these functions in the released PowerCLI.

    I only found orders that allow me to refer to an "existing" Distributed Virtual Switch.
    I've seen references to a "adventure".  But all the dates related to the 'adventure' seem to be well over a year.

    What programmatic support exists for 'creation' of distributed virtual switches and exchanges?

    Luc's response was right, that if you cannot use the fling then the module is probably the best place to watch right now.  While we cannot commit future versions, I can say that vDS is high on our list of priorities and we hope a future release will include supported cmdlets to work with.

  • Cannot add the host to the distributed switch

    Hello

    Updated some time a go to vSphere.  Environment has 2 hosts and I left it with standard switches.  Today, I thought I'll add a distributed switch and use the extra features etc.  I added the switch d however when I come to add a host it there are none listed?  Can someone tell me how do I migrate from standard to distributed please?

    Kind regards

    Stuart.

    First of all. Do you have an Enterprise Plus license? Distributed virtual switches not working Enterpise more licenses or if you are using the Evaluation Version.

    Secondly, you have all available vmnic? unless a computer host a vmnic unused, the hosts will display not.

  • Cannot add the VMNET2 (virtual switch)

    I had installed the VMware Server on vista professional. Requriment to add the vmnet (virtual switch) to create different network. I went and virtual network management, but on this page, I couldn't apply it but after selecting the Vmnet, so I had to click on the Cancel button.

    I thought that the problem occurred due to installed corrupted dump. I downloaded the new dump of VMware server 2 vmware.com and installed again but no luck.

    Could someone tell me why this problem occurred.

    Attached is the screnn to manage virtual network for your reference screen

    Server 2.x is not officially supported under Vista or any other desktop OS but that said, it seems that it works ok although you can have problems with virtual machines to stick to 95% when booting on x 64. I run it, for test purposes, and I don't have the occasional other question requiring reboots or other corrective measures.

    The usual reason for the button apply shaded in vmnetcfg is because you do not like a true admin - with UAC turned, you perform a "run as Administrator". In addition, you may need to restart the VMware Host Agent services and Web Access after changes to these changes is visible/available.

  • NSX 6.1.5 - distribute Firewall rules are not applied to the empty virtual switches

    Hi all

    We have a big problem since we have improved the NSX to version 6.1.3 to 6.1.5.

    I get a bug following this procedure:

    . In vSphere Client--> NSX, create a new virtual switch

    . Distribuer distribute the firewall, create a rule to deny traffic between two survey periods. Example: source: all, destination: all, service: all, Action: reject, applies: the new virtual switch

    . Connect two VMS to the virtual switch and you can test the other (this is false due to the firewall rule)

    . Publish ANY changes on the firewall distribute (could not be related to our rule. Example to change its name to another rule), and the rule starts to operate.

    Additional steps:

    . Remove the firewall rule

    . Identify the virtual machines in the virtual switch

    . Re-create the firewall with applies rule: the virtual switch (still empty)

    . Connect the virtual machines and ping between them. Yet once, the rule does not work.

    . Publish ANY changes on distributed firewalls and the rule starts to operate.

    NSX version 6.1.3 and 6.2.0 both work correctly. But I can't downgrade to 6.1.3 or upgrade to 6.2.0. 6.2.1 upgrade involves the upgrade of several other components.

    I use the following versions:

    . NSX 6.1.5

    . vCenter Version 5.5.0 Build 2414847

    . ESXi, 5.5.0, 2718055

    Please, any ideas?

    Thank you very much

    D.

    She seems to be a bug in 6.1.5 NSX and there is no solution for this yet. There are workarounds, but none of them apply to my "fully automated" environment

    We need to wait for a fix or upgrade to NSX 6.2.1 requiring an upgrade of several components as well.

  • How to change the security policy of a group of distributed in a distributed virtual switch ports?

    Hello

    I am trying to write a Perl script that can modify the security policy of a group of distributed in a distributed virtual switch ports. I can access the values of security policy by using the following:

    $port_group_view-> config - > defaultPortConfig-> securityPolicy - > allowPromiscuous-> value

    $port_group_view-> config - > defaultPortConfig-> securityPolicy - > forgedTransmits-> value

    $port_group_view-> config - > defaultPortConfig-> securityPolicy - > macChanges-> value

    I try to use the method ReconfigureDVPortgroup_Task() of the managed object DistributedVirtualPortGroup. While creating a new instance of DVPortgroupConfigSpec, within the data spec config defaultPortConfig property object there is property of security policy and I couldn't find any other property pointing me to that I can update the security policy. I discovered that it is accessible via defaultPortConfig, stretching from VMwareDVSPortSetting where securityPolicy is a property of VMwareDVSPortSetting.

    What is the way to update? I am bit confused about terminology Extends and extended by and how it relates to the other.

    Concerning

    Akmal

    It is in DVPortgroupConfigSpec, but you will need to use the extended VMwareDVSPortSetting object.

    My $dvpg_spec = new DVPortgroupConfigSpec();

    $dvpg_spec-> {defaultPortConfig} = new VMwareDVSPortSetting();

    $dvpg_spec-> {defaultPortConfig} {securityPolicy} = new DVSSecurityPolicy();

    $dvpg_spec-> {defaultPortConfig} {securityPolicy} {allowPromiscuous} = new BoolPolicy (value-online 1, inherited-0 online);

    $dvpg_spec-> {defaultPortConfig} {securityPolicy} {forgedTransmits} = new BoolPolicy (value-online 1, inherited-0 online);

    $dvpg_spec-> {defaultPortConfig} {securityPolicy} {macChanges} = new BoolPolicy (value-online 1, inherited-0 online);

    You could probably simplify this by getting the config spec VGA and change it before using it in the ReconfigureDVPorgroup_Task() method.

  • Network interface 'NIC 1' use the network' Distributed Virtual Switch (uuid :) ', which is not accessible)

    Hi all

    I tried to migrate a virtual machine from one cluster to another cluster that connects to two different dvSwitch, I got an error when I chose to migrate to what host.

    No one knows about it?

    How to solve this problem of deletion of the NETWORK adapter on the virtual machine?

    Thank you

    The two, source host and destination must be connected to the same dvSwitch and the different steps for the migration.

    Even if the port groups have identical names and are in the same VLAN, as long as guests are on different dvSwitches, you can't vMotion VMs.

    So, either temporarily connect a host to the two dvSwitches or design a new dvSwitch to strengthen permanently the other 2, where they actually link the same networks (dvSwitches can cover multiple clusters very well).

    You can also temporarily create 2 standard vSwitches on the source host and destination for migration.

  • How to make a thin app to host on the guest virtual computer

    How can I run the host on the guest computer thinApp?  If I run on the host computer thinApp will not just take a snapshot of the host?  How to use a virtual machine created by workstation to run?

    Another part to this question is, if the initial snapshot has already application thinApp on the computer and/or other programs so theoretically, they should not be included in the compilation, right?

    That is right.  In this scenario, your package will work only if the same version of Java is installed in the same way on your target machines.  It's OK in my opinion if your environment had a solid a standard desktop where you can count on this version of Java to be present already.  Tests to ensure it works of course are always recommended before going to production.

    You lose some of the benefits of application virtualization because all dependencies are not encapsulated more.  The compromise is that this package could break down the road if Java changes on your workstations.  Each environment is different, so it is up to you.
