Unable to connect to the internet through guest account

We cannot connect to the internet using the guest account. I suspect a security update or my mischievous adolescent son changed a setting. This just recentlty that happened (in the past 48 hours) HELPS... I spent over 2 hours trying to get it online. The journal of WMD works very well and I was able to create another account just to see, and it also connects very well. What is the problem and how can I fix it?  Thanks, Biggator

You do not want to connect to the Internet by using the guest account because it is precarious. In fact, you won't use the guest at all account. The guest account is a special system account, not one for when you feel hospital. For some reason, it is disabled by default in Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7, Linux, Unix and OS X.

On TechNet:

"The guest account is intended for users who need temporary access to the system. However, if this account is activated, a security risk may exist because an unauthorized user could have anonymous access to the system through this account. »

http://TechNet.Microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb418978 (TechNet.10) .aspx

So if you have enabled comments, turn it off now and create a standard/Limited (Vista, Windows 7, XP Professional/XP Home) for your visitors. Call the new user account to something like "visitor".

And since you mentioned a teenage son:

Make sure that the computer is clean:

  • Computer with Vista unable to connect to the internet through two computers with Windows 7.

    Dear engineers,

In our House, we have two new computers Windows 7 connect to Wired internet access.  Our friend came in hoping to play some MMO games with us on our connection (it has windows vista).  When we hung everything upward, by linking to our modem, his computer was visible on my husbands computer, but was visible on mine as a media device.  He could see the two computers, but could not get an internet connection and no viable ping.  We checked the network map and he showed my computer with one? related to my husband then connected to the internet.  Inside, there was an announcement indicating that the following devices are not displayed in the network map.  under of course was listed both our friends media device and the computer device.  I searched Control Panel and gave access to anyone on the login to my husbands system as long as me.  What happens if nothing else can I try to have its system you can connect to our internet?

    Thank you for your attention,

    Cerisea

    Hello

If a computer is not properly visible it generally means that sharing is not set correctly to match your system.

You must also set your computers with the computer account of the friend as a user on your computer.

Everyone does not mean everyone wishing to connect.

If the accounts are presented only for John, Jill and Jack, setting in the folder with all permissions saves the effort of definition permission separately for John, Jill and Jack.

Everyone isn't everyone group, only John, Jill and Jack.

    In general.

Win7 when configured on the peer-to-peer network has three types of configurations of sharing.

Group residential network = only works between Win 7 computers. This type of configuration, it is very easy to entry level users to start sharing network.

Working network = fundamentally similar to previous methods of sharing that allow you to control what, how and to whom the records would be shared with.

    Public share
= network Public (as Internet Café) in order to reduce security risks.

Make sure that the software firewall on each computer allows free local traffic. If you use 3rd party Firewall on, Vista/XP Firewall Native should be disabled, and the active firewall has adjusted to your network numbers IP on what is sometimes called the Zone of confidence (see part 3 firewall instructions

    General example, http://www.ezlan.net/faq#trusted
Please note that some 3rd party software firewall continue to block the same aspects it traffic Local, they are turned Off (disabled). If possible, configure the firewall correctly or completely uninstall to allow a clean flow of local network traffic. If the 3rd party software is uninstalled, or disables, make sure Windows native firewall is active .

Win 7 networking with other version of Windows as a work network.

In the center of the network, by clicking on the type of network opens the window to the right.

Choose your network type. Note the check box at the bottom and check/uncheck depending on your needs.

When you have finished the configuration of the system, it is recommended to restart everything the router and all computers involved.

    -------------

If you have authorization and security problems, check the following settings.

Point to a folder that wants to share do right click and choose Properties.

    In the properties

Click on the Security tab shown in the bellows of the photo on the right) and verify that users and their permissions (see photo below Centre and left) are configured correctly. Then do the same for the authorization tab.

This screen shot is to Win 7, Vista menus are similar.

The Security Panel and the authorization Panel, you need to highlight each user/group and consider that the authorization controls are verified correctly.

When everything is OK, restart the network (router and computer).

    * Note . The groups and users listed in the screen-shoot are just an example. Your list will focus on how your system is configured.

    * Note . There must be specific users. All means all users who already have an account now as users. This does not mean everyone who feel they would like to connect.

It's a printer Photosmart 5510. It prints and scans perfectly and all four laptops I installed it, the hp update downloaded software.

I have reset to factory settings and automatically and manually configured without success. Also, I restarted my router and changed the wireless channels.

I can not yet use the eprint service anddownload any apps.

My son tried to use a proxy, but it still wouldn't connect.

Please could someone help with this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello

To my knowledge, the router first with the data from your ISP.

If done correctly, you should be able to connect to internet via LAN cable.
Did you check that first? Do this!

So if you can properly connect to internet via LAN cable, I would recommend set up the WiFi network on the router.
There is a will to put the SSID (name of the WLan) encryption settings, MAC address filtering, firewall, etc.

If these settings have been configured correctly, then you could try to configure WLan settings on your laptop!

  • Unable to connect to the Internet on one of the 3 PCs

A week ago, I suddenly can't connect to the Internet on one of my PC, although my other 2 always connect very well.  I tried to repair my LAN in network connections, so that my IP can not be renewed.  Also tried an ipconfig / renew, which gives the result of "unable to contact your DHCP server."  Ipconfig displays my 169.254.90.197, even for my default gateway IP.  Tried to turn off and reset my router.   My network card shows work.  Any ideas?

Ipconfig displays my 169.254.90.197, even for my default gateway IP.

This means that your NETWORK card is set to "Obtain an IP address automatically" (which is the default and confirmed you is, indeed, your property) and that the computer cannot connect to a DHCP server.

In virtually all home networks, the DHCP server is part of the router.  Means that the message has computer cannot connect to the router, DHCP server (b) on the router is off, or DHCP (c) of the router is broken.

Because your other computers work, options (b) and (c) are excluded.  This means that the problem is (a): the computer cannot connect to the router.

The most frequent cause of failure of the connection to the router is there a configuration of wireless security problem, even if you do not mention if the problem computer connects via a wireless NETWORK card or a wired network card.

Initially, access the configuration utility of your router (from one of the computers that can connect to the Internet through the router).  Confirm that

    • the DHCP server works (of course it is)
    • the DHCP server is configured to provide a sufficient number of IP addresses (this is probably true, unless someone has been playing with the configuration of your router in your back)
    • There is no MAC filter or another filter put in place in your router that is off of your computer to 'problem' (as in the previous point, it is probably also true for the same reason)

If you use a wired NETWORK adapter, the likely problem is hardware: either the cable is bad, the port in the router is bad, or your network card is bad.  To test these conditions, the simplest method is to swap the known parts of work.

If the wireless connection, go to your wireless router configuration utility section.  First of all, make sure that your router is configured to use the correct wifi band which is compatible with all of your devices (A, B, G, N) wireless.  Although it is unlikely that this parameter has changed since a week ago, it should be confirmed (the usual problem with an older wireless adapter, say wireless B, trying to connect to a router, the 'G' value only rather than 'B & G";) even for wireless-N).

At this point, you have two options:

Option 1: Write down all settings relevant wireless configuration then go back on the problem computer and try to connect using the correct information.

Option 2: temporarily disable any security wireless to the router and see if you can connect.

Whichever option you take, you'll want to remove the Wireless 'profile' of your computer before you try to connect.  If you are using Windows WZC, right-click on the icon for the adapter wireless in network connections, click Properties, then the tab 'wireless networks '.  Find your network (SSID) in the list of preferred networks and remove it.

  • Unable to connect to the Internet via a Linksys Wireless card

I used a Linksys BEFW11S4 for several years with no problems.  A PC is connected via a network cable and the other (Dell laptop) used a wireless adapter Linksys that plugged into the laptop (model of Linksys WPC11 ver (4).  All my computers using Windows XP with the latest service packs.

I plugged the Dell laptop to the router via a cable to transfer files faster than the network B.  Then, when I disconnected the cable and reconnected the wireless card, I was unable to use the Wi - Fi connection to connect to the internet.  Wired works very well, is not wireless.

Windows reports a good wireless connection to the router, but the machine is unable to connect to the internet using the wireless card.  It can connect to the internet when using a network cable, however.

Pings what either using the Wi - Fi connection failed (expired).

I used another laptop (a more recent Toshiba with a wireless card built-in) to connect to the router and it works very well with the connectivity wired or wireless.  No problem switching back with this machine.  So, the problem is not with the router or the router configuration.

I was through the forums and seen a LOT of people seems to have the same problem with these Wireless Linksys routers.

I tried to use the Easy Link software to configure the machine, but: (1) Linksys updated web site is not valid, and (2) with the www.linksysfix.com/ela site that directs users to the software is also invalid.  Linksys technical support seems to be lacking.

I went to the usual network setup menus and two laptops seem to be configured the same way, again, we're working wireless and we do not.

I would appreciate solutions others have tried and who has worked with this problem.

I reinstalled the drivers for the Linksys card and it does not work.  Windows recognizes the new hardware card, reports that it is connected to the router, but still no internet connection
