  • Unable to connect to the internet, error: default gateway is unavailable.

    Original title: help

whenever I use my computer at some point I will get a message that I'm no longer connected to the internet, windows diagnostics will do its thing and fix it, but it keeps well back, he says my default gateway is unavailable. Thank you amber

    Hi amber,

Let us work together to solve this problem.

    Please answer these questions:

    1. what is the accurate and complete error message that you receive?

2 what is the make and model of the computer?

3 you have any third-party antivirus installed on the computer?

If please try these methods and let us know the results:

    Method 1: Reset WINSOCK TCP/IP IPv4 and IPv6 TCP/IP stack.

Follow these steps to know how to do:

    a. press Windows + R keys on the desktop, to open the dialog box run.

    b. type cmd and press ENTER to open the command prompt.

    c. type these commands and press ENTER after each line:

netsh winsock reset catalog which resets the WINSOCK entries to
    default values of the installation.
netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log that resets the TCP/IP IPv4
    battery installation by default.
    netsh int ipv6 reset Reset reset.log IPv6
    Stack TCP/IP to default installation.

    d. restart the computer.

    Please visit the following link:

How to reset the Protocol Internet (TCP/IP)
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/299357?WA=wsignin1.0

Method 2: Disable temporarily an antivirus installed on the computer and see if the problem is resolved.

Important note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Please get back to us with the results and any other questions you may have about the Windows operating systems. We are happy to help you.

No one gets a Windows repair CD when buying a PC. You need to burn it yourself via the control panel / backup and restore. It only takes three minutes and having one is absolutely essential for those who wish to make their own PC maintenance.
Talking about the essential things: a fully tested alternative admin account is one of them. Without one, you can get in diabolical trouble (the same as when not having is not a spare House key where to break a window is a radical and totally useless but effective solution).
It might be possible to solve your current problem as follows:
    1. keep tapping F8 during the first phase of startup.
    2. select Repair from the menu.
    3. Select an administrator account, and then enter its password.
    4. When you are prompted, select System Restore.
    5. set Windows to a point well before this problem occurred. This will outline also all passwords to their old values.
