Unable to download a file. going to 99% then crashes / freezes

I have a xp professional computer, and for the last few weeks has tried to download files, ect. I start the procedure, say to download the desktop or even documents and when it's 99% or a dry left, it hangs / freezes everything.  I tried to do a system restore and it will not work.   I'm not a professional but not a novice either.   any advice on what to do?  sound for what I'm trying to download.

2. what web browser do you use to download files from the internet?

3. do you have security software installed on the computer?

4. it happens with any file or program you are trying to download on the computer?

Temporary disable the security software installed on the computer and see if it helps.

    You do not give us the exact words, but I guess that this message appears on the screen, like on a regular PDF with this message. If so, ignore the message and save the file in the usual way on your desktop. Now open in Adobe Reader.

  • Unable to download .exe files

    I recently bought a HP Pavilion Notebook with Vista 32 bit SP1. My problem is that I can't download files .exe from the internet. In Firefox and Internet Explorer, the download box appears, I'm prompted to choose where the file should be saved and then nothing happens. I tried reseting IE as the Defender disablin but still no go (got this trick from HP support).

    I use a D-link DGL-4300 router and F-secure and I tried both set my computer in the demilitarized zone and allowing all the internet traffic of F-secure but ut still does not work. Another computer on the same network with XP have no problem download.

    Found a similar problem in this http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistaperformance/thread/565d9f86-42cd-40a8-bb0a-819526466b7d/ thread, but that seems not solved.

    Thank you for posting.  Download of .exe files has been disabled in most internet browsers for awhile now as a protection against the evil-ware and viruses.  Download a .exe file that is not in a container (zipped or some form of compression) is likely to be something nasty to your computer.

    It seems that the installation of the product is a failure, recommend:

    1. disable the firewall on your system

    2 - completely off to your security software

    It seems that the image has finished loading. What often happens in these situations, we have transferred the previews (what you see at Revel dated and magnifying glass) and were downloading the originals. Original download may take some time. During this process, something can happen.
