  I bought a Dell Intel Core Dueo, 64-bit CPU with the computer in Windows 7 Home Premium, about 9 months ago. I've never been able to get the Adobe Reader software to work so I started to use Foxit.  I would prefer to use Adobe, recently tried to update a more recent version (Adobe Reader X).  It keeps giving me the error message (when I try to download it): "can't retrieve essential parameter (16291.301.749).

  When I tried to download an earlier version of Adobe (like above 9.1), it downloads and seems to be there, but when I open it freezes and never opens.

  OK, finally solved.

  I uninstalled what is called "Windows Live ID Sign - in Assistant", as well as the usual games of .NET, MS for Windows - LIVE and games for Windows Marketplace Client, then ran a registry cleaner (I used CCleaner, which is free) and restarted.

  I then reinstalled GWL from MS. site

  I bought a game a few days ago, but cannot sign in to games for windows marketplace. I try to connect using the GOOD live ID and the password that I used when buying this game on the website (it works when signing on my live account on internet and on this forum). A few seconds later, he says:
