Unable to File Share.

Is there a trick to get a folder to share?

In the sharing in system preferences pane, I check the file sharing. I then click on the button in the shared folders +: list, select a folder to share, and then click the Add button.

Nothing seems to happen.
I expect the folder I just chose to appear in the list of shared folders.

Ideas?

Thank you

  • Google Chrome diverted file/share/Email this Page in Safari 9.0.1

This is OS X El Capitan version 10.11.1 on a late 2009 iMac.

The problem is that it has become impossible for Safari 9.0.1 to 'share' a Web page by emailing via Apple Mail (9.1). When 'file' / ' share ' / "send this Page" is enabled in Safari, Google Chrome launches and opens a webmail account. Until then, when "file" / "share" / "send this Page" has been selected in Safari, Apple Mail would activate.

Google seems to be the co-optation "Mail" extension, because navigate to menu Apple/System Preferences/Extensions/action Menu brings up a list of extensions that can be enabled or disabled. The extension called "E-mail" is displayed, but it cannot be selected or deselected; It is dimmed and monitored; and scaling "Mail" icon is the icon of Google Chrome.

If the extension of "Mail" unalterable interferes with Apple Mail 9.1?

  • SBS 2011 and Windows 2008 file share

I have a sbs 2011 and a regular Server 2008 domain. I need to set up a file share that can see both areas. I discovered what a normal two-way transitive trust between them is a bad idea. Wanting to know if there is a better way to do it by side just setting up user accounts in the regular field of 2008 (where the share resides) which corresponds to the account of sbs domain, setting up the collective right to the share, and map the drive to the sbs domain workstations. I don't like this method because changing a password on the sbs domain would require a manual modification to synchronize on the regular field.

  • Loose ability to browse file shares after vMotion

    Some configuration information.

2 ESXi hosts: HostA and HostB

2 physical switches (both connected to the same subnet, vlan, all connected to the same switch to base: SwitchA and SwitchB)

    1 VM in question: FileServerVM

FileServerVM is running on HostA, which is physically connected to SwitchA.  (B host is physically connected to SwitchB).

I have FileServerVM from HostA to HostB vMotion.  So far so good.  Can communicate with FIleServerVM very well through anything I try except file shares.  When I try to access a drive that is mapped to FIleServerVM it fails or if I just eyebrows at \\FileServerVM\ it fails.  If I vMotion FileServerVM return of host b to HostA, everything suddenly starts working again.

Anyone encountered this before?  Any suggestions?

Found the problem.  The vSwitch on HostB has several physical maps that are entrusted.  One of them was related to one VLAN incorrect.

  • vSphere Converter Standalone and file shares

I'm about to convert a member of the domain, four discs, Windows Server 2003 that contains SQL Server databases and Oracle, but also a large number of files (TENs) actions. I read that the conversion of multiple discs is no prob but I can't find anything on whether or not correctly converter will transfer all file shares. I need to do or I'll have to find another approach.

    It migrates file actions/ACL correctly?

    Thank you

Users should not notice a difference. The admins will see just a few traces of VMware (devices, tools, etc.), but the system will remain the same.

What you can do is to do a test, that the process is not destructive to the original machine. Then, once your solution is proven, make the final move.

  • Using ESXi for file shares

    Hi all

    OS: Windows 2003 STD 32-bit

Currently our DC FSMO is also a file server with many shares and printers that are running on a DELL PE2650

We bought a Dell PowerEdge 2950, 8 GB of RAM, 1.5 to RAID5 to move the FSMO domain controller, but the upgrade of the OS has not been approved, given that Windows 2003 STD may not use more than 4 GB of RAM, we divide the 2 Server 1 server just for the DC, DNS, and WINS and 1 server host the file share and can accommodate 2 servers on the Dell PE2950 ESXi

question 1 and our main concern: ESXi is suitable for file sharing host 200 users have mapped drives and running applications from?

2 given that the Dell PE2950 2 NIC can we dedicate a NIC to server file sharing?

    TIA

    1: Yes, it's not a problem.

2: Yes, you will need to create a vSwich separate the file with separate uplink NIC server and use the second NETWORK card on a second vSwitch for management and other virtual machines.

    Kind regards

  • Server 2003 BDC - retire, but still use it to existing file shares

    Hello

We had two 2003 servers as our PDC and BDC.  The PDC has been removed and our AD has been improved for 2012.  The final 2003 server acting as the original BOC also has shared on that user.  I would like to give use to act as a domain controller and to maintain the existing shares of the files for our user base.   If I have DC Promo to a DC to a server Stand Alone will this affect existing direct user action.

  • Question on visibility network file share

    Hello

I recently took a project to rework our file sharing server. I created the permissions by group and assigned to users, and everything is functional. However, there are some users I want to limit access to only a few specific folders in the root share files. Currently, it works, but the rest of the files are still visible to them. Is there a way I can set it up so that they can see that they can access folders?

Thanks is advance for the help!

I thought about it. Some of our actions of root had no active ABE (didn't know what who was until a few moments ago). Now everything works fine.

  • Cannot be accessed reliably host file shares in Windows 10 Pro

I can see my folder of Fusion 'Share' using the link on the desktop. I can't not reliable access shortcuts to the same or subfolders in my library of Docs not to (all from the file Explorer?) but some applications can and dreaded getting the "not found" dialog box. This means that I can't open files in sharing most of my applications making my Windows 10 VM basically useless (it is not the only virtual machine I use and have several that need access to the same share). Anyone else having this problem? I'm running the Mavericks as the host operating system, i7 quad core 16 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GT 650 M 1 GB of VRAM (MacBook Pro 15 "Mid2012). I couldn't find a similar post in this forum. Any help will be appreciated.

    Hello

As far as I KNOW, the following steps will send your host file-sharing problem.

1 take a snapshot (so you can come back)

    2 uninstall vmware tools

    3. restart Windows 10

    4. install vmware tools

    5 restart Windows 10

    6. test if your shared folders work correctly now and if so, remove the snapshot.

  • Commonly available NTFS file share...

    Hello

I'm not sure if this question is out of range or possibilities of vmware, but I post anyway :-)

We run Essentials Plus V5 and as storage device, we use a couple of Dell MD3000i without.

Our windows domain controllers are running as VMs and the field of shared files to the folders and files of collaboration are on a virtual disk belonging to one of the DC1 domain controllers (stored with this virtual machine).

I wonder if it is possible under vsphere to create an independent network of VM for our domain records (NTFS) share.  If DC1 must go down for some reason, DC2 continues to provide all services nettwork and domain, but users cannot access their files because the fileshares field came down then stopped DC1.

Is there a way to create or configure a vmware storage type that can act as a common shared drive for several virtual machines the same way as DC1 currently share NTFS drive?  I want to "detach" shared drive of the machine virtual of DC1 DC1 and create an '' independent '' with equal properties (NTFS security) share accessible by DC1 and DC2.

Thank you very much for the comments on this.

    concerning the Tor

    Hello

You can access the settings of your virtual machine with disk hard 3´rd and remove the hard drive. But make sure you do not remove your vmfs volume. Only remove it from the virtual machine.

Then go to the other virtual machine and add a hard drive existing and point to the removed disk.

But I recommend you build a virtual machine as a file server only. If you are able to because of resources. Do not use a DC as a file server. Only if you don't have any other possibility

  • I can't get the XP computer recognize the Windows 7 network file share more wireless

Problem file/network sharing wireless with a professional system XP and Windows 7

I have 2 computers - 1 with XP and Windows 7 pro upgrade and use a secure wireless network...  I have set up my network on the new computer and can see the files on my new XP computer, but I can't get the XP computer to recognize Windows 7 one.  What should I do?

    Hi Captive,

    Method 1:

I suggest you to check if temporarily uninstall the antivirus software on the computer Windows XP allows you to connect properly.

But don't forget to install the software after troubleshooting is done such that your computer will be at risk.

    Method 2:
You can also check the settings of firewall on the windows XP computer. You can check if the ports are opened correctly for the network to connect. See the help link - below
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/283673

    Method 3:
If the problem persists, you can even perform the clean boot on the Windows XP computer and check if you can identify the application that is causing problems in the clean boot state. To perform the clean boot follow step 1, mentioned in the article, below, and then try again checking in this state of boot -

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/310353

If the issue is resolved check what non-Microsoft service or program is at the origin of the problem. referring to article and following the other steps.
When you are finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:

    a. Click Start, type msconfig.exe in the start search box and press ENTER.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click on continue.

    b. on the general tab, click the Normal startup option and then click OK.

    c. When you are prompted to restart the computer, click on restart.

    I hope this helps.
