Unable to reduce my Local (c :)) drive

Hello

I'm not able to reduce my local C drive. It has a 300 GB free space, yet I am not able to reduce. I tried chkdsk/r , I defragmented my disc, I used the disk cleanup option in administrative tools in the control panel but I am not able to reduce it please help. I get only 351MB shrink option.

Hello

The note on the retractable screen can describe the problem... you can have 284 GB of free space, but there is a real estate file causes a problem...

351MB is on one side of the file, and the rest of the 284 GB is on the other hand, for example...

A normal Windows defrag will not move a file system.

The program shown ZigZag may be able to overcome this problem if it is run from a bootable CD or Flash...

Also note that if you use a 3rd party program to defragment, your quick start will most likely stop working... Especially if you INSTALL the program...

  • Unable to defragment the Local C drive

Whenever I have try to defragment my hard drive, he said "Disk Defragmenter has detected that Chkdsk is scheduled to run on the volume: (C). Please run Chkdsk /f.»

F is a removable drive on my computer. What should I do to get it to defragment the volume C?

Go to http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx and download, install and run Autoruns.  Click the scheduled tasks.  Uncheck entries to run chkdsk (there may be more than one entry).  Then restart.  The start task, you should be able to defragment.  If you can't find there, you can click the all and check all entries to have anything to do with chkdsk and clear the checkbox to remove the starter.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

  • Linux installer is unable to find the local hard drive

I try to install CentOS 5.2 (a derivative of Red Hat Linux) on VMWare Fusion 2.01. I can run the Installer (graphical mode) to the point where he asks me how I want to partition my hard drive. At this point, I can't continue as Setup can not find a disk hard - the box saying 'select the (s) to use for this installation' is empty. If I click NEXT, I get an error (obviously). Any help would be appreciated.

When you created the virtual machine, what type of operating system prompted you chose? CentOS 5.2, I would suggest RHEL5, since it is the guest of farm taken supported. The reason by selecting the correct prompt when creating virtual machine is important because it influences what virtual material is used, and some clients do not come with drivers for some hardware (and therefore will not recognize it).

  • Fixed/Local Flash drives.

If I understand the situation, flash drives (almost?) always identified themselves as removable. With the release of Windows 8, SanDisk has taken the decision that their readers identify as fixed/Local, which is not removable.

However, Sandisk and then had a change of mind and returned to removable. Unfortunately, their packaging does not indicate clearly what identification provides the flash player. Were they made available a tool for fixed/removable local conversion.

Almost everyone of my many flash drives is bootable (utilities, antivirus, etc.). Unfortunately most of the utilities to create bootable flash drives simply don't see fixed/Local flash drives (Norton Bootable Recovery Tool, Acronis Rescue Media Builder).

If I have correctly summarize the things, so my pack of three facets Cruzer is the last purchase of SanDisk that I'll never do.

    Kind regards

    David.

Not all utilities for making bootable on fixed drives flash drives are impassable, that just the old ones not supported.  Try RMPrepUSB.  Personally I would write to the sellers of the apps you use and complain.

If the 3 pack you have purchased does not work for you, you should go back to where you bought them and recover your money or others.

  • one of my local disk drive indicates space used some GB, but nothing is stored in this disk physically.

one of my local disk drive shows the space used a few GB of data even if nothing is physically stored in this disk

When you go to start / computer and select which lead and then choose explore does nothing there or are there any files or folders.  Make sure you first start / Control Panel / folder Options / view and check the button to view the hidden files, check the box to show system files and uncheck Hide extensions of known file types files.  Explorer shows that it uses space (exactly how much)?  What was on this front disc has been added to your computer as an additional drive?

Go to start / Control Panel / Admninistrative tools / computer management / disk management and tell me what he says on this drive.  Does also show the disk space used or is it clean? Hover your mouse over the the disk image and a text box appears.  Post the EXACT content, as they are presented.

If you want to clean up (and there is nothing on it to save) then right click on the drive and click Format.  This will wipe the drive and I hope, will solve this problem.  If this is not the case, the reader may have a hidden partition that occupies space. We can deal with that by deleting the partition and then format again.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

  • LOCAL USE OF HARD DRIVE D: AS AN EXTENSION OF THE LOCAL C: DRIVE

The office is a Dell Optiplex GX260 with Windows XP Professional Version 2002, Service Pack 3. The local disk C: drive only has 1 GB of available space remaining and the local disk D: drive is not formatted and has never been used. Two local disk drives show in my computer. The local disk C: drive has a NIFS file system while the unformatted local disk D: drive has a RAW file system.

I would like to know if it is possible to format the D: drive and use it as an extension of the local disk C: drive, that is to say with the same function as an external hard drive. I assumed that it has the same capacity as the local disk C: drive, which is 20 GB. The object is to copy and delete a sufficient number of emissions from local drive C: to D: local hard drive so that I'll have 8 to 10 GB of space available in local disk C:

Details of any change in firmware and driver coding, etc. it will take, if any, would be appreciated.

It is possible to just open the program files in local disk drive C: and copy paste every program chosen for local disk D: in my computer drive, folder then delete the copy Aquamatic program files in the local disk C: drive which is free disk space in the local disk drive C and would not affect those programs in the control panel?  If it's more complicated than that, comments would be appreciated.

This is based on the assumption that the computer will recognize programs in local disk drive d and use them as necessary, as if they were in the local disk C: drive

    Thank you

    Hi Notfinished,

What you try to do, is use your second hard drive for some of your files and possibly applications. I suggest that you format the drive D: to NTFS. Easy to move to the D: drive would be My Documents, as described HERE. The same would apply to my music, my pictures, etc. Applications can be moved easily. You will need to reinstall the application and during the installation process, select the D: drive as destination. For many applications, this involves the use of the option "Custom Installation".

Let me know if you have any other questions.
