Unable to write DVD/CD-RW Pavilion zd7000 drive

HP Pavilion zd7058CL laptop

Windows XP Home Edition 32-bit

Lead questioning = HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4241N

Error Msg = you need to maybe install a CD/DVD burner

Hello

Just installed Windows XP on a brothers and sisters more older HP Pavilion & everything seems to work well, except that I'm unable to copy files to a CD.  Am able to play CDs (loading the OS a & as capable of reading DVDs).

Receiving error during the copy of Windows messages: there was an error in the writing process.  The disc you have attempted to write may no longer be usable.

Microsoft Fixit said: the selected drive is not able to write, if you have multiple CD/DVD drivers try to use another, otherwise you may need to install a CD/DVD burner.

I downloaded the HP diagnostic utility & everything checked good - no errors.  But then it only checked in the CD/DVD drive for function read (not write).  Think I got all the good free codecs installed - not not ready to pay for on a laptop nVidia codecs that old.  This PC has bounced around my family of sisters for a while & then the original disks are lost.   I used a Windows reinstallation disk & label COST to reinstall the OS.

Something maybe just physically wrong with the drive & it is unable to write.  Withdrawing & reinstall using the player?  Clean it up?

Thanks for any help,

LaserJet

I hope that it will work, or you can probably pick up a DVD burner used, but tested and functional for your model on eBay for cheap.

Clues as to what is happening and what I can do about it?

    Hello

Since when is this problem here? Is your unit pre-installed with your own operating system or with the recovery image? DVD - RAM Driver Software V3.1.0.0 is also pre-installed correctly? Burning application you are using?

Try to remove the drive from Device Manager, reboot the device and check if the drive is recognized correctly again. As far as I know that your device comes with fixed burner DVD Super Multi (Double Layer) and you should be able to create all formats.

  • Satellite U205: unable to write to DVDs

    Hello
I recently bought a laptop Satellite U205. I can't write on any blank DVDs. The drive is a DVD optical drive and support writing on the blank DVD as well. I can read and copy DVDs on my drive hard, but not vice versa. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

    Hello

It seems that your drive can read but not write DVD media.
Are you sure that the installed driver should write (burn) on DVD s to 100%?

This drive is installed in your laptop?
Additional you should also know that every DVD burner is capable of burning each DVD.
There is + and media. Some readers are able to manage only the media and others only the +

In your case, I recommend you to check the disc for compatibility with the media

  • DVD read CD and DVD - R but unable to read DVD + R

    Hello

I have a HP Pavilion dv4 and am running Windows 7.  I recently discovered that my optical drive (hp CDDVDW TS-L633N) is unable to read DVD + R.  The unusual detail is that it reads DVD-R, and CD without any problems.  Also, I can write a DVD + R.

Because I just returned from Latin America, I thought that this problem was related to the locale.  Nope... the regional setting is correct.

I uninstalled the driver and restarted the computer, but that didn't work.  I also downloaded Windows Fix it tool and failed there as well.

    Any other suggestions?

Thanks for the suggestion.  I'm embarrassed to say that at the end of the day, there is a very simple solution that I forgot.  In other words, the lens just needs a good cleaning.

Because it was reading DVD-R and CD format without any problem, I assumed the problem was related to a software problem.  After cleaning the lens with a Q-Tip and isopropyl alcohol, however, everything seems to be.  Thanks again for all the suggestions!

  • Tecra A8 DVD don't read/write DVD-R 1-16 x.

Using Sonic Record DLA, Tecra A8 DVD don't read/write DVD-R 1-16 x. Ok work on DVD - R 1-8 x and CD DVD - R 1-16 x has tested successfully on the two recent Toshiba Satellite Pro and HP Office. Have updated the Bios, software DVD-RAM and Sonic DLA.

    Hey,.

What exactly do you mean? This means that you can t burn DVD-r with 16 x speed?
In this case, you should check the specifications of your CD/DVD drive. Not all models support this speed of combustion. In addition, I recommend using 8 x only, he speed will give you a better quality of the burned data/average.

You must also use different types of media. I believe that your other computers have different drives in order to test different mediums. I have a good experience with Verbatim DVD-R.

    Hello

According to the description of the drive can write DVD-R, DVD - RW and DVD-RAM. In my opinion, the first step, you can try is to test the player with various media (various manufacturers).

  • Unable to play DVDs on my Toshiba laptop

I can't play DVDs on my Toshiba laptop.

It started a few months there with DVD freeze. Now, I am unable to read DVDs at all.

Tried a few internet solutions. Have also made approximtale six weeks ago and next to the factory. Have installed all Windows updates. Unable to read the DVD. Incidentally can still play CDs.

Any idea what is the problem and a solution please.

    Thank you very much.

    Hello

Can you please tell us what operating system you are using and what model of laptop.

In any case, if your optical disc drive can read CD but not DVD, it is possible that the driver is defective or the lens is dirty.
The first time, please clean the lens.

If this will not help it is possible that ODD has problem with the calibration of the lens.

  • Equium P300-19O CD/DVD drive can write DVD - r

    Hi all

I feel like such a numpty to ask such a basic question but bear with me.

I am wanting to abandon the PC Tower and opt for a laptop and I am interested in the Equium P300-19O.

I want to be sure that it is possible to 1000% * write * DVD-R.

It says on the description here: -.

    http://UK.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/JSP/productPage.do?service=UK&ConceptualReturn=TIU_BIG _HOME_STD & PRODUCT_ID = 1056064 & ConceptualReturn = TIU_ BIG_HOME_STD & toshibaShop = false

    Compatibility of DVD Super Multi drive (Double Layer): CD-ROM, CD - R, CD - RW, DVD-ROM, DVD-R, DVD + R, DVD + R (DL), a DVD-R (DL), DVD - RW, DVD + RW, DVD-RAM
    Maximum speed: read: 24 x CD-ROM, * 8 x DVD-ROM / write: 24 x CD - R, 4 x CD - RW, 10 x HS CD - RW, 10 x CD - RW, 8 x DVD-R, 4 x DVD-R (Double Layer), 4 x DVD - RW, 8 x DVD + R, 4 x DVD + R (Double Layer), 4 x DVD + RW, 5 x DVD-RAM *.
type: DVD Super Multi (Double Layer) drive

So there certainly seems to be the case that it can.

I just wanted to check, because I remember records went through a few stages: -.

    CD playback
    Reading CD & writing
Read & write CD but DVD playback only
Read & write CD & DVD.

When I bought my DVD burner on my lap, they were still a "big thing" I'm sure the readers today to do everything but I just wanted to be sure

    TIA

    Gary

    Hello

    Description says:
    > Writing: * 8 x DVD-R *.

As you can see, you can burn the DVD-R with a top speed of 8 x.
But I would recommend burning the DVD using the single speed to get the quality better combustion.

    Good bye

  • Tecra M2: unable to read DVD or use WinDVD 4

Recently, I replaced my Tecra M2(: MODEL NO PTM20E-0MTGR-EN, SERIAL # 54579007G) hard drive and reinstalled windows xp.

I did most of my files on an external drive, but I don't have the original installation discs. I am now unable to read DVD or use Win DVD 4 (which came with the machine.

Is there a file I can download to reinstall dvd playback or otherwise what method can I use to wind dvd port 4 from the external hard drive (there the dll and .exe file but no installation file)

    Thanks for your help

If you have written about WinDVD player bundled with the laptop, in this case, the situation is as follows: WinDVD player is part of the installation image and may not be downloaded from the Toshiba download page.

If you want to use the same application, you need to download a free version of the download from producer page or buy it as all other applications. When you buy the computer Toshiba laptop to ensure that each customer can view DVDs and install WinDVD player. If you use original recovery image, you can use it every time but if you want to use your own OS, in this case you are solely responsible for the installation of the OS and software to use.

If you have preinstalled with success the OS I recommend using any DVD player application. Intervideo WinDVD, one do not.

    Good bye

  • HP Pavilion ZD7000 hard drive expandable to SSD? Compatible?

I'm looking to upgrade a HP Pavilion ZD7000 (P/N: DN730AV) for Windows 7 Home Premium, including equipment upgrades memory to 2 GB of storage, and I would add an SSD.

    Two questions:

Q: a solid state drive is not compatible to this brand and model of laptop?

Q: If so, the BIOS would require upgrading to support the SSD drive?

    Thank you!

There are several problems with you try to run Windows 7 on this 10 year old material. The video (nVidia Geforce FX5200 GB) card will not support Aero desktop effects and is known to be buggy in Windows 7 with all the drivers from nVidia available. Second, the hard drive is EIDE, not SATA, so there is no available AHCI mode. AHCI is the only way to get excellent performance of an SSD. There are EIDE SSD. And they do not provide a performance increase, but nothing like what you get with modern machines with native SATA (AHCI) support.  It can use 2 GB of RAM which is memory DDR333. It is a single core Pentium 4 processor, and frankly, there are many cell phones on the market with as much computing power.

128 GB PATA (EIDE) SSD for $175

    64 GB for $80

The problem with the SSD isn't the BIOS, but the basic material. Here is the service manual you'll need if you decide to go forward. The laptop is great and pretty easy to disassemble. It could be upgraded to a 3.4 ghz Pentium 4 very easily for a little money if you have a slower processor installed. This would to some extent.

  • Carpet * a UJ-830 cannot read/write DVDs on Equium L10

Hi, I have a laptop Equium L10. My DVD RAM mast * a UJ 830 cannot read/write to DVD discs. But it can read and write CDs.
I have installed the latest driver but no luck. Any suggestion will be appreciated.

This problem appears since day one?

I ask because it looks like a hardware malfunction, to me it seems that the lens can not calibrate properly and that's why the drive can read and write DVDs.
What burning software do you use?
For the most part a burning like Nero program provides an error message if the burning process failed

  • Satellite L500D - can't read/write DVD

    Hello

About a fortnight ago my DVD drive stopped reading/burning DVD and now only times/burns CD I followed the guides to remove the upper and lower filters and reformatted my laptop to factory State and the DVD player does not work.

I bought a new replacement drive, and is not reading the DVD either so im assuming that my original DVD player worked but there is something wrong with the hardware of the laptop itself?

I bought the laptop in November ' 09 so it is still under warranty or is there anything else I can try?

    See you soon

    Hi mitchello,.

    > and reformatted my laptop to the factory of the State and the DVD drive has failed.
If you have tested with factory settings and it still doesn t work it s hardware malfunction but it strange why s it doesn t work with a new disk

What program you use to read or write DVDs? I can recommend the VLC to play all the multimedia content and CD Burner XP Media Player like burning program. Both programs are freeware and works perfectly. Never had a problem with these tools.

Have you bought a new drive to an authorized service? I ask this question because not all readers are compatible with all mobile phones due to the assignment of the different pins. If the new drive does not work you can return it for a replacement.
