Unallocated space...?

I went into Control Panel, administrative tools, and then I clicked on "create and format hard disk partitions", which then opensectioned to the top of the disk management section.
Well, that's what he said:
Volume: C: /.
Layout: Simple
Type: base
File system: NTFS
Status: healthy
Capacity: 24,02 GB
Free space: 4.89 GB
: Free 20%
Fault tolerance: No.
Overhead: 0%

Good down there, it shows as a graph or something of the sort. It shows the folder C: / then next to it, it shows no "allocated", which says that it is 208,87 GB.
What is this space "unallocated"? How can I get everything on the c: / so I can use it?
I need all that space. I don' don'tknow why is not letting me use it.
So, how I had no space on the c: /.
Any help is appreciated

Right-click on the C partition and select Extend partition.

    Hello

I hope that you have created a recovery disc before changing the partitions on the HARD disk.
I guess you HDD recovery would not work after the partitions has been changed.

In any case, all partitions can be verified in disk management.
    Right-click on computer-> Manage
Here, you go to disk management

Generally, all partitions and unallocated space must be visible. Here, you can create a new partition or can change and change the partitions again.

  • cannot expand the c partition in unallocated space

I have a HP Pavilion dv5224nr laptop running Windows XP.  I've been low on disk space, so I came on this forum to find out how to remove the recovery partition, since I have the recovery CD from HP.  Now that I deleted the partition through disk management, it only allows me to expand the C partition in unallocated space left by removing the partition D.  "Extend partition" is not an option in the menu when I right click.  I also tried going through the "diskpart" command prompt, select the volume and him asking to "extend".  I received a message that it was unable to extend the volume.  How can I recover the 12 GB of space on my C drive?  Thank you.

I downloaded a free utility called Easeus Partition Master and it worked very well for resizing my partition C.  I also used explores the function to watch the 1 gig unknown partition and it wasn't empty, so I left it alone.  Thanks for your help!

  • How to merge the C drive and unallocated space

I recently had a new 1 TB HDD in my count and then I had to download Windows XP Pro as my old hard drive crashed. In under disk 0 disk management, I (c :)) 128.00 GB and to the right, I have not allocated 803,52 GB.)  I'm not sure how it happened.  I guess that something I had put on Windows XP Pro.

My question is that I can combine the two together.  The C drive and the unallocated space.  There are no other disks shown but C.  Thanks Reta

It happened because you have installed a copy of "gold" Windows XP, (an original version without a service pack).  Released as Windows XP did not support 48-bit LBA so it truncated the disc to 137 GB (128 GB binary) and the rest of the unallocated disk, slipstreaming of service packs for the Windows XP CD would have allowed windows to correctly see the entire disk.  The only way to solve this problem now is to use a third-party partititionneur.  You can use the free trial version of BootItNG to merge partitions.  You do not need to install BootItNG, when you get to the Setup screen simply cancel the installation and you will enter the maintenance mode where you will be able to partition work.

  • 14FR (PQSERVICE) recovery partition becomes unallocated space

    Hi all

I have an Aspire 5745 G laptop with Windows 7 HP x 64 preload. My HARD drive accidentally becomes a dynamic disk for narrowing the 'C' drive by using a 3rd party partition management software. I converted it to the base using the same tool. Now my OEM 14FR reserved partition disappeared. It shows as an unallocated space in the Device Manager window.

Can I still get back without going through recovery discs?

    Thanks before.

    Hi osandakj

Bad news is, if the recovery partition is listed as unallocated, it has been deleted.

You will certainly need to buy for your laptop recovery disks!

  • SanDisk Cruzer, to use the entire disk, but cannot get rid of the unallocated space or format NTFS

Hello, I just bought this drive with 32 GB. (XP pro, 32-bit ie8 svc pk 3)

I used CCleaner to clean the disc.

CompMgmnt now displays 29,82 FAT32 healthy, with 11 mb unallocated.

When I right click on the unallocated space, properties and help is my only options, no deletion.

I also want to format it in NTFS, but this isn't one option for others 29,82 inches. I have to format it in ntfs?

http://www.thinktechno.com/2008/04/22/how-to-format-a-USB-drive-with-NTFS-file-system/   I was able to format to NTFS through this Web site. However, I still want to remove the removable disk unallocated space.

11 mb is a lot? Diskmanagement lists volume 99% free.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Use the HP format tool (Windows 7/Vista, right-click on the icon and select run as administrator). This will allow you to format to NTFS.

I wouldn't worry about 11 MB, there is almost nothing (~0.01 GB). He might need it for the system or something.
  • Vista SP2: create an additional partition / merge unallocated space

I looked around the forums but I can't seem to find an appropriate response.

I recently reinstalled an operating system on my computer (HARD drive Exchange).  This time, I decided to stay with the Vista original rather than go to the downgrade to XP, I first time round.

-Online is my goal is to create a partition only for my data.

I don't never partitioned a drive myself so far.  So far, I did not restore all the data.

I found a strange configuration on the HARD disk, which is now 500 GB:

C: "Vista" (of course the windows and other program files, the page file, etc.). About half of the total disk space, with a lot more free space.

E: 'Data' ("primary partition"). About half of the disk space total but container recovery tools only 4 GB of occupation.

A third * no * capacity volume 1.46 GB with 100% free space.  It is marked 'healthy (EISA) configuration.

My plan had been to shrink C and E substantially, in particular E (up to about 6 GB, which gives 33% free space, since it is only recovery tools - on my machine Win 8 I have a recovery partition, but it is very small, as expected).

I shrink both, but Vista only authorized maximum withdrawal of 50%.  I found myself with two spaces unallocated.  I formatted a (now called D) and now, it is marked 'in good condition (logical drive).  He is also NTFS.

I've not yet formatted the other unallocated space.

    So, my questions:-

    1. What is this labeled 1.46 GB partition?  Why is that?  (Never seen something like that).

    2. why can I not shrink the existing partitions more?  C even still contains 69% free space.

    3. how to merge both new partitions?

    4. Why is the new partition D not a main drive and what question?  (I read somewhere in Vista you can have 3 primary disks.)  Is this what volume unlabelled 1.46 GB as a primary transmission?

=> I would like ideally to a single disk of data about 65 to 75% of my 500 GB HARD drive.  For now the D drive and newly formatted (68.1 GB) and the unallocated space (115.9 GB) add up to only 184 GB, significantly less than half.

    Thanks for any help.

I'm no expert on the partitioning of the disks as each version of Windows introduced new types of structures of disk and partitions. Each of the different rules depending on the type and the version of Windows.

I have three partitions. Data and one for Windows. One for beta versions of Windows. And one for the installation files (if it survives reformatting). I copy my data to another partition if resettlement (but it's been 6 years and 7 months I finally reinstalled Windows - what ordinary hassles are you going to for once an event of the Decade).

Windows is designed to separate the data on a disk. Many of its features are designed to make several drives appear as a single drive.

In the worst case scenario for your scenario, Windows will work, but your data is lost compared to the lost data, but nothing works. An improvement without consequence.

  • How to restore after deleting a partition in unallocated space on my hard drive?

HI, I have recently removed a partition of my hard drive on windows Vista Home Basic. I removed it because I needed to find the hard drive space on the main user profile.

I found, after following the instructions on how to remove the partition that the partition has been deleted, but the space was not available for use on the main user.

I couldn't find any information on how to restore the space unallocated on the C: drive, so if there is someone out there who can help me, I'd appreciate the help! : o).

    Hi geddron1976,

Is "unallocated" space right next to the C: partition, that is to the right of the C: partition? If yes go to control panel and click the Administrative Tools icon. In the Administrative Tools window, click computer management. In the window of computer managgement, click on disk management and you will then see a view of your disks. Click right on your C: drive, and in the menu drop-down, select "Extend Volume".  A wizard will appear. In the 'select amount of space in MB' type the amount sdpace you want to extend the partition. If you want this then let the total in the State. Now, click Next, followed by the finished product. The c: drive should now be extended in your unallocated space.

If the C: partition is 'no' right next to the unallocated space, then you will not be able to extend the partition - not with the windows disk in any case management application. To do this you will need a third party application of partitioning, it is also a little more complex.

    Hi n m,

Boot you from the DVD to start the installation, or have you started the installation in the existing version of Windows?

I would like to know if you want to perform a new installation or an upgrade installation.

You can not install Windows on an unallocated partition, if you install vista on brand\fresh the new hard disk, you will need to create partitions on the hard disk.

Method 1:  Format the partition and then try to install Windows Vista.

Important: The applications on the computer and all data will be lost when you format (New Installation) of the partition.

Method 2: You can follow the steps mentioned in the article below

  • Vista Shrink volume resulted in 75 lack space volume and 0 GB unallocated space. No possibility of partition. Lost space.

I wanted to create a partition on a 150 GB internal hard drive. It is NOT the boot drive, it's the drive D. I got more than half the volume free and retractable Vista specific volume I could use up to 90 GB. I selected 75GB for the shrink.  After the SHRINK, it resulted in 75 lack volume and space 0 GB unallocated space for the partition. Volume shrinkage has returned an error and did not provide additional instructions. Unfortunately, I don't have the error message as I deleted it by mistake. It was a small error message in Shrink.

VISTA 32-bit, updates to update... I just downloaded EASEUS Partition Master and it shows I have 150 GB of total space, unused and 0 free 90 not allocated. Looks like the problem doesn't show in the view "Properties..." (75 GB of total space, 15 GB free unused).  I don't know what the file system will be used to allocate new space. I think I'll try to copy a large file and see which uses the file system...

When I look at the following:
Computer management, storage,... disk management it says I have: Simple, Basic, disk 1, disk Local (d) 150 GB, NTFS, healthy (Primary Partition). (NO unallocated space appears on this menu)

When I look at the properties of the D: drive:
Local disk (d :)) 75 GB of capacity.

I just lost 75 GB! Help...

I don't know what happened. Shrink did not partition instructions... The space is lost forever?

When you shrink a volume you create unallocated space which should appear in computer management - I don't know why it is not appear on your system.

Maybe you can try to expand the volume to find the size of the original score (although it will wipe the data that is on the drive): http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/resize-a-partition-for-free-in-windows-vista/. (but I doubt it will work because there is no contiguous unallocated space appear).

Here is another article on how to shrink and expland a partition under Vista.  Perhaps by reading the instructions for the narrowing, you will notice something did you not (or has done, but shouldn't have).  Otherwise, extend the partition could reclaim your lost space.  http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial133.html.  Yet once again, because there is no unallocated space appear, I don't know if it will work (in fact, I don't think it will be).

My best suggestion is to temporarily store the data on the disk also narrowed and then format the drive.  This should bring back to his full 150 GB and then you can try it again narrows (if you are still interested in this).

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck! Lorien - a - MCSE/MCSA/network + / A +.

  • I want to add to my main disk unallocated space. How can I do?

    original title: merge unallocated space!

I want to add to my main disk unallocated space. How can I do?

    Hello

Welcome to Microsoft Windows 7 answers Forum!

Follow these steps below to expand your primary partition.

    1. right click on the partition (EX: C:\) you want to extend in the now unallocated partition and click Extend Volume.

    2. click on next to the Welcome to the Volume Wizard window extend

    3. Select the amount of space in megabytes that you want to use from the unallocated partition to use to extend this partition

    4. If you want to redo a partition, select all of the space available for this disc. If there is other disks with unallocated disk space, they would have shown during the selection available.

Note: It is recommended that you do not extend a volume on a disk with another disk free space. If one of the disks has a hardware failure, all data on that partition (volume) will be deleted.

    5. click on next.

    6. click on finish in the window end extend

You will now see the console with the new ready to use extended partition volume disk management.

    7. close the computer management.

    8. click on computer in the Start Menu and see your new Extened the volume partition.

  • Bit Locker drive appears as unallocated space

Recently, I've upgraded to windows 10. In a few minutes, my system crashed and a blue screen came up saying "driver missing...". »

I installed windows 7 ultimate 64-bit again after formatting my C drive.

Now the partition I had encrypted with BitLocker is not displayed in 'My computer', but when I check in the management of the reader, the encrypted partition is shown without a drive letter, such as unallocated space. The space is exactly the size of the encrypted partition. Don't see no correct answer anywhere, I wanted to format the partition, and bang, an error message comes up saying "not enough space in the player (s)" the 200 GB juice goes here doing nothing, prevents me from doing whatever it is no more.

  • unallocated space between partitions

I installed Windows 7. during installation I made a partition (70 GB) in all of the space allocated and left others as unallocated space
I installed Windows, then in management discs I couldn't do in extended partition. Windows I only made two more primary partitions.
So I used MiniTool Partition Wizard to create partitions.
But when I did an extended partition with three logic in what I saw two unallocated space (2 MB) after and before the extended partition.
    Is - this usual?

    I have another question?
    The process is better?

    (1) for installation in the window where you want to install Windows (player option (Advanced)) I'm doing a partition out of unallocated space (for example 70 GB) for the installation of operating system and left another space as unallocated space and after installing I make my partitions in management of disks or with MiniTool Partition Wizard

    Or

    (2) for installation in the window where you want to install Windows (player option (Advanced)) I'm doing a partition of all the unallocated space (disk space) to install the OS and after installation I reduce it and make my partitions.

    Hello

We do not recommend using the partitioning utilities 3.

They result in an unsupported configuration.

Note: The use of third-party software, including hardware drivers can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. How you have partitioned your drive is a matter of personal preference.
