Under Windows, don't enter anything in the address bar
I am running Windows and for some reason any this morning I can no longer move anything the text typed in the address bar. Pressing Enter, clicking the button arrow or using Paste & go do not work. I see other users have had this same problem but I do not see a solution for my exact configuration. I use 39.0 and on Windows 7 Professional SP1.
Sorry, what do you mean by "delete files"?
Due to the change how Firefox 39 associate keywords to bookmarks and history, the address bar is newly sensitive to corruption in the database that stores your history and bookmarks (the places.sqlite file). I think that's probably the bug you saw in other threads.
The developers are working on a solution, but that could take weeks to reach you.
At this point, the best solution is to delete/rename the places.sqlite file, but then you lose all your history, if this really isn't very attractive to people who rely on history to revisit the sites.
In case you want to try this:
Open the settings folder (AKA Firefox profile) current Firefox help
- button "3-bar" menu > "?" button > troubleshooting information
- (menu bar) Help > troubleshooting information
In the first table of the page, click on the view file"" button. This should launch a new window that lists the various files and folders in Windows Explorer.
Leave this window open, switch back to Firefox and output, either:
- "3-bar" menu button > button "power".
- (menu bar) File > Exit
Pause while Firefox finishing its cleanup, then rename places.sqlite to something like oldplaces.sqlite.
Firefox creates temporary files related to places.sqlite and those should be renamed / remove as well. Check for places.sqlite - shm and places.sqlite - wal and rename or delete them as well.
When you start Firefox back up again, he should start a new database places.sqlite and import your last backup automatic bookmark. Can you confirm that all your bookmarks are present? The address bar works normally again?

Since the installation of Firefox 8, when I type anything in the address bar and then press "enter" or click on the arrow for "go to the address in the address bar", nothing happens! Similarly if a place is indicated by the location bar AutoComplete feature. I hit "enter" or click the "go to" and nothing happens. " Keyboard shortcuts to "complete the .com, .net, etc. addresses" doesn't work or the other. The address bar has worked well for entering web addresses before Firefox 8. Help, please.
Try Firefox SafeMode to see how it works there.
A way of solving problems, which disables most of the modules.
(If you use it, switch to the default theme).- You can open the Firefox 4, 5, 6, 7 SafeMode pressing the SHIFT key when you use the desktop Firefox or shortcut in the start menu.
- Or use the Help menu option, click restart with the disabled... modules while Firefox is running.
Do not choose anything at the moment, just use 'continue in safe mode.
To exit safe mode of Firefox, simply close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the shortcut of Firefox (without the Shift key) to open it again.
If it's good in Firefox Safe mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to understand that one.

On the address bar, when I write something, I would get Yahoo instead of Google search results. I don't know how to change it because the Options under the Tools tab do not seem anything which changes the search engine for the address bar.
There is a hidden preference that you can edit to make it use Browse of Google search of name that has been used in Firefox 3.6
- Type of topic: config in the address bar and press on enter
- Accept the warning message that appears, you will be taken to a list of preferences
- Locate the preference keyword. URL, double-click it and change its value on the link below
http://www.Google.com/search?ie=UTF-8 & oe = UTF - 8 & SourceId = navclient & gfns = 1 & q =
If after changing the preference it is still using Yahoo, there will be an add-on that is the cause. Check for modules of Yahoo and if not necessary to uninstall them. If you have the add-on of net assistant freeze.com , which can cause research go to Yahoo, uninstall this add-on - https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Uninstalling+add-ons

When I open a new tab I see Google search smooth with large beautiful Firefox logo on the top center of research, and makes me automatically type in this research. Is there a way to automatically enter address bar when a new tab is opened? Just moved to Firefox and it's quite annoying.
Thanks to all the advice.
-KarlLooks like you have set browser.newtab.url to Subject: House which opens the default home page in each new tab. The simplest thing to do is to reset this preference so that instead of the new tab page:
- Type of topic: config in the address bar and press ENTER.
- To ignore the warning, press the big button "I'll be careful, I promise!
- In the search box, paste browser.newtab.url
- In the search results, click browser.newtab.url , and then choose reset.
Otherwise,.
- Custom installation tab.
- Open the modules (Ctrl + Shift + A Manager; Mac: Command + shift + A), then the Extensions category.
- Next to the new custom label, click on the Options button.
- The value of any page you want to open in each new tab (topic: newtab is the value default; about: home is the default home page) and make sure that "Focus in the URL bar" is not checked.

Suddenly this morning I could not type into the address bar of Safari 9.0.3, and then noticed that the url has been duplicated. If I click on the sidebar to get a new Web page, the address bar then includes two urls, those past and present. Restarted Safari - no change. Not disabled-extensions (AdBlock, ClicktoFlash and DuckDuckGo) - no change. Restarted the MacBook Pro (15-inch, mid 2010) Yosemite 10.10.5 - no change running. Firefox is running normally.
Can anyone help please.
Thank you.
Turn off the Suggestions of Safari in the preferences/Safari/search / uncheck Safari Suggestions.

Cannot type anything on the address bar of Safari after update of El Capitan
I recently updated yesterday at El Capitan and had problems with my safari since. Whenever I type something on the address bar of safari, nothing shows up, and it is very annoying because I use it to do research on google and visit the websites.
If you click in the address bar, you should see a blinking vertical bar?

I can't enter anything in the search bar, or address bar.
It happened about 5 days ago, and no matter what I do, nothing is typed in Firefox. It seems that it is just the letter keys and not the other keys such as 'Enter' or 'Tab '. I tried reseting Firefox and also to remove the old version and then put it back. Right now I use IE, but I would go back to using Firefox. Thank you in advance.
Have you tried a clean reinstall and remove the Firefox program folder to make sure that all files are updated?
Create a new profile as a test to see if your profile is the source of the problems.
See "create a profile":
- http://KB.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a profile in the new profile, but make sure not to copy corrupted files.

It is a problem I've had since the first race of FF4 beta. All sites are on the right side of the window to start a new page, then it works very well after the first.
Create a new profile exclusively for version 4.0 beta and create a shortcut on the desktop with Pei 'profile' attached to the target to launch this profile.

In order to enter anything in the address bar, I need to move the cursor to the top edge of the screen in Firefox and the site chosen.
Try to hit F11.
It is a toggle that maximizes the window beyond 'normal' maximize and gives you the most possible real estate for navigation, with less waste on the edges and buttons.
It might be the bad form to mention here, but other browsers use the same key for this.

Window will not be aligned on the menu bar in El Capitan
Finally made the switch to El Capitan, and I found a very annoying cosmetic problem.
My windows don't line up with the menu bar and show a thin my bottom line between the window and the menu bar. As my background is white with a repeated image, it irks me.
It is the bar of menus with the window below.
It is as high as it allows me to put the window.
I tried to reset my computer. I was wondering if it was just google Chrome, but it happens with all application windows. Record: I use a model of Macbook Pro retina 15 inch, early 2013 with a 2.4 GHz Intel Core i7 processor. I have 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 memory. There are 251 GB flash with 96,18 GB of free memory.
I used to be able to align windows with the menu bar. It's embarrassing for me and let me know how to solve this problem. Thank you.
Well, I don't know what happened, but now it is well aligned. I did not anything special for my computer. Very strange. I hope that no one else had this problem because I don't know how it was fixed.

New laptop. Downloaded Firefox and could not activate the address bar doesn't so no back arrows or hometown icon or research, etc.
Please do not suggest that I access the controls in the address bar. I do not have an address bar to access anything whatsoever.
I don't want to customize the address bar. I just want to be able to see and use the controls in each illustration to the getting started and help watch are here, as they were on my old laptop.First of all, make sure that you are not in the mode "full screen" of Firefox. The F11 key toggles between the normal modes and full screen.
Second, you can activate the individual toolbars on and outside using either:
- Right click on an empty area of the tab bar
- Click the "+" button on the tab bar
- Press the Alt key > menu view > toolbars
The address box is on the Navigation toolbar.
If the Navigation bar is displayed but the address box is missing, your bars may be damaged. You can use the 'Restore Default Set' button in the Customize dialog box to restore. Customize Firefox commands, buttons, and toolbars.
A little luck?

I get a strange behavior of the bar tabs and the address bar in Firefox 29,0 for Mac.
I just installed Firefox 29,0 for Mac.
I have a strange behavior of the bar tabs and the address bar with this new version.
Instead of the address bar, I get two rows of symbols. And it is impossible to write anything in the address bar.
(I add a screenshot, but I can't find a way to do it).Firefox has an RSS icon in the palette of the toolbar that you can drag a toolbar (but not on the location bar container).
- Firefox menu button > Options/Preferences > toolbars
- View > toolbars > customize

Why my windows defender off swith & travel essentials on how doi fix this that I don't see anything in the settings

Entering a URL in the address bar and pressing on enter does nothing. Or the 'enter' key or 'address arrow bar', to go to the site function. Web site does not load and no error message appears. 'Enter' key works very well in the FF and IE search box, is not my keyboard.
Tried most of the recommended fixes under the "Error loading websites" article with the exception of "DNS refetching", as typing "about:config" in the location bar does no good as the "enter button" won't function. I've removed and re-added FF back into the windows firewall, removed ZoneAlarm from my system, edited proxy settings, deleted and reinstalled FF several times. NOTHING WORKS!!! I'm a die hard FF fan and this is KILLING me. Please HELP!!!
Start Firefox in Firefox to solve the issues in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is the cause of the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > appearance/themes).
