This question has been previously published, but doesn't seem to have not been resolved for my case. I have hired McAfee and they ran through their bag of tricks does not.
The upgrade of Vista 64 Ultimate 64 Windowns fails due to McAfee Personal Firewall. However, this application has been uninstalled and also used the McAfee product removal tool. The error continues.
I disabled all services at startup, which did not solve the problem.
I am looking for the specific trigger for this error. What you looking for Win 7? It is a specific registry entry?
Use the McAfee removal tool to remove it completely from your computer:
McAfee removal tool - uninstall of McAfee
Also search in Program Files and Program Files (x 86) for all McAfee files and delete them.
Also perform a clean boot:

Could not open in safe mode; Impossible to uninstall ESET; Impossible to uninstall RegEdit
1 problem started trying to uninstall ESET antivirus. Error message says that C:\Program Mechanic\Data\map.ddat Registry; C:\Program mechanic\DAta\values.dat Registry; and this: \Program Files\Registry mechanic\Data\keys.dat is missing and need to reinstall. Don't know how to do this. With this number, ESET says to uninstall in safe mode.
2. for safe mode, by Windows F1 help, the "shut down" instructions say, select "restart and you select 'safe mode'. I "turn off computer" but not "shut down" and have all the options to select Safe mode. I tried several times to restart the computer and tapping F8 to open in safe mode. It does not work. By Windows, a virus may prevent it from working? I don't know how to fix.
3 tried to uninstall Reg Edit (don't know where that came from). Say unistall file error message is missing. Don't know what to do.
Help, please. I have no antivirus protection at the present time. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
Reference error messages Registry Mechanic, which has nothing to do with the antivirus/ESET security products. Using a "cleaner" as Registry Registry Mechanic probably corrupted your computer. I don't know why you try uninstalling NOD32, but to switch to secure Mode, you must turn off your computer, and then restart it. As the computer restarts, repeatedly press the F8 key. That you will get the diagnosis menu where you can use your arrow to select Mode without failure.
I don't know what you mean by "Reg Edit" either, but my guess is that your computer is infected and that you or someone else using the computer installed all kinds of registry cleaners/optimizers garbage in a vain attempt to get it repaired. Uninstalling these programs and perform in-depth analysis of malware.
Go through these stages of systematically General malware removal:
http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_MalwareDo not skip the preparatory work.
If you can't do the work yourself (and there is no shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea), take the machine to a professional computer repair shop (not your local equivalent of BigComputerStore/GeekSquad). Please be aware that not all shops are skilled at removing malware, and even if they are, your computer may be so infested that Windows will have to be properly installed. If possible, have all your data backed up before taking the machine into a shop.
The alternative is to backup your data and do a restore clean factory/install of Windows.

Hello
Yes you still need an antivirus program and you are right that Norton tends to cause problems.
Norton Removal Tool
http://Service1.Symantec.com/support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039You want to remove Norton and old and even uninstalled antivirus can leave remnants then download and run
the Norton Removal Tool. Also, I would get Avast and Prevx and you should be in good shape.Download the 3 to get back to after removing the McAfee antivirus.
Download - SAVE - go to where you put them - right click - RUN AS ADMIN - REBOOT after each.
--------------------------------------------------------
Here is what I use:
Avast and Prevx proved extremely reliable and compatible with everything I threw at them.
Avast Home free - stop any shields is not necessary except away from Standard, Web and network is working.
Prevx - Home - free
Windows Firewall
Windows Defender
Protected IE - mode
IE 8 - SmartScreen filter WE (IE 7 phishing filter)
I also IE always start with asset if filter InPrivate IE 8.
(Sometimes you have to temporarily turn off with the little icon to the left of the + bottom right of IE)Avast - stop home - free - all shields you do no need except leave Standard, Web and network running.
(Double-click the blue icon - details look OK. - upper left Shields - those that you do not cancel).
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html
Prevx - Home - small, fast, exceptional CLOUD free protection, working with other security programs. It comes
a scan only, VERY EFFICIENT, if it finds something to come back here or use Google to see how to remove.
http://www.prevx.com/PCmag - Prevx - Editor's choice
http://www.PCMag.com/Article2/0, 2817,2346862,00.aspAlso get Malwarebytes - free - use as scanner only. If you ever suspect malware, and that would be unusual with
Avast and Prevx running except a low occasional (not much), updated cookie and then run it as
a scanner. I have a lot of scanners and they never find anything of note that I started to use this configuration.I hope this helps.

Please help me identify anti virus and personal firewall on my computer software. I don't know where to find the information required for the notification of security
Since you have posted in Forum Vista, I will assume that you are using the Vista operating system.
You can get this information by navigating to the 'Start' menu and selecting 'Security Center' in the 'Control Panel', then you should be able to see what is running (antivirus/antimalware) under the tab "Malware Protection".

I can't turn on the firewall of Windows 8.
Hello
I've been playing with this for weeks, I finally installed a third-party firewall, but without the firewall of Windows applications running Metro are inaccessible.I get no error message, the message 'access denied '.I tried through Services and all other means possible, but when I look at the error report as suggested when I try and turn it on all I get is.I run as administrator with full rights under tension. He did run when I got to my new computer and I don't know when or why he stopped.I just noticed one day that it has been disabled.I have run all kinds of malware and turned up nothing.Since Defender is not a piece of software in 8 stand-alone as it was at 7 I see no way to uninstall it and reinstall it again to reset it as it was initially.Anyone have an idea how I can reset it without having to perform a recovery to until I installed and implemented all my over 40 software programs. If I can't I'll have to continue to run Comodo and ignore Metro applications completely, and it's that actually works very well for me.I would like to just make it work the way it's supposed to.Thanks for the help.MikeHello
I just say that I finally got this problem. At the suggestion of a poster on forum Windows 8, I looked at how services work had their permissions in place.I went to services, found a service that was running and looked at how the configured permissions and compared to the firewall.I then copied all these settings for the Windows Firewall settings manually, and the firewall has finally started working.I have no idea why the settings were different, but it was what was killing the service.I just had to go through each setting and change them as they were the same for both services.Taking a series of screenshots helped so I didn't have to keep switching back and forth between them.MikeHere is a link to the post that has solved this problem for me. -

Y at - it an anti virus that goes with my default firewall for windows xp
Y at - it an anti virus that goes with my default firewall for windows xp? I had microsoft essentials, but it comes with a separate firewall
Microsoft Security Essentials does not include a firewall, it fits with the (default) Windows Firewall. During installation, Microsoft Security Essentials scans the PC to determine if a firewall is enabled on the PC. If no firewall protection is present, you can turn on the Windows Firewall. See features and benefits-Windows Firewall integration. http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/products/security-essentials/product-information
What do you currently use for antivirus protection? If none came preinstalled on a trial basis? You make sure that you remove any other antimvirus/anitmalware real-time software before installing MSE? Refer to the following:

OR http://experts.Windows.com/w/experts_wiki/89.aspxNo antivirus/antimalware software will offer 100% protection. MSE is as good, if not better than the other free and paid for the products. It is well suited for older machines to XP because it is light on the use of resources and as stated earlier suits well with the firewall of Windows (default).
I hope this helps.

Original title: wall of fire is corrupt? Does not connect to internet
The "firewall settings window cannot be displayed because the associated service is not running" message, but then it won't access the internet or run the program. We have done all the steps listed here http://windowsxp.mvps.org/sharedaccess.htm, but nothing worked so far. Even re-installed SP3. Help, please! Thank you very much.
Hello
What happens if you disable the firewall?
Run the checker (sfc) system files on the computer.
SFC tool scans system files and replaces incorrect versions of system files by using the correct versions.
To run the System File Checker tool, follow these steps:
a. open an administrator command prompt. To do this, click Start, click principally made programs, Accessories, right-click Guest, and then click run as administrator.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
c. at the command prompt, type the following line and press ENTER:
sfc/scannow
