Uninstall Internet Explorer completely XP

How can I remove Internet Explorer completely from Windows XP.  I'm not a fan of IE, and I want to remove it from my computer. Older versions of Windows and Windows NT went very well with it, so I don't see why it couldn't be done now. Any help would be appreciated.

Windows XP * is * an earlier version of Windows.  * smile *.

Since you have Windows XP, you really can't remove safely to the point that you are running.  Just stop using it.  Delete the icons, ehatever you can not see.  If you're low on space you trhink its removal would help - buy 1 GB USB key you eyeing and archive stuff.  * smile *.

No. I am not sure that IE can be completely removed from Windows XP. I remember well, it is linked to the XP operating system. Remove IE8 in Control Panel > Add / Remove Programs will simply go back to the previous version of IE until you end up in IE6 (lots of security issues). If this is the case, it is better to keep IE8 on your system. If you need to make the Manual updates for Windows, you will need IE do.

You can change your default browser Firefox:

Control Panel | Programs | Default programs | Set your default programs. Make chrome the default browser.

In the control panel. Programs and features. Turn Windows features on and off, you can turn off Internet Explorer, but I don't see the need.

Hi sununpa, need not you uninstall internet explorer or windows media because of its integration of system player, this would make the System unstable. And anyway, it is not possible to uninstall, it is just possible to disable them.

    Hi cmaag,

Thank you for using answers Forum.

There is not a way to uninstall Internet Explorer 7 I know.
Is there an error message that you can post on this forum?

What happens when you try to update?

I suggest to use the System File Checker to search for missing and corrupt files that can cause the problem.

The tool File Checker system to determine if the problem you are experiencing is caused by one or more system files that are used by Windows Vista, run the System File Checker tool. The System File Checker tool analyzes the system files and replaces incorrect versions of system files by using the correct versions.

To run the System File Checker tool, follow these steps:

    1. Click Start and type cmd in the box start the search .
    2. Right-click cmd in the programs list and then click run as administrator .

If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type your password or click continue

    3. At prompt command, the following line, and then press ENTER:
      sfc/scannow

Please let us know if that helps.

How to uninstall or remove Internet Explorer 8?

When you remove Internet Explorer 8, your previous version of Internet Explorer is restored with your customizations (such as add-ins, Favorites and your home page). (http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=letmefixit)

Important You cannot uninstall Internet Explorer 8 if it is set as not removable. This occurs if you install Internet Explorer 8 before you install Service Pack 3 (SP3) for Windows XP. If this scenario applies to you, then you must uninstall SP3 before you uninstall Internet Explorer 8.
