Uninstall linux fedora

My pc HARD drive has 2 partitions, one with Linux with Windows XP Home Edition. Since Linux doesn't have an uninstall option, I formatted the disk Linux windows, but after that the system didn't start Windows.

He's stuck in the bootloader for Linux, that is,GRUB, I checked for the solution on the net a lot of sand forum they said use the Windows XP CD and fix it or use FDISK MBR to restore Windows boot, but with my Toshiba laptop, I only got a recovery CD? So, what should I do?

Hello

The problem is that on the recovery CD you will not find any Microsoft repair console but only Toshiba ghost image files.

If you want to repair anything, you need the original CD of Microsoft Windows XP.
But if you don't Win CO if you don't have a lot of possibilities.

Try using the F6 key immediately after starting the laptop. You can see all the options?
For example-> start with the last configuration of work or something like that?
Check it out.

But if it doesn't work and you have no WinCD so I guess that a new procedure of recovery will help you ;(

    Sorry for my bad English.

    It depends on the purpose of your laptop (eg. portability vs gaming). With respect to the components, peple might disagree with me, but I recommend to choose configurations Intel Centrino. This means that the a mobile processor from Intel, Intel Chipset, Intel Graphics and Intel wireless adapters.

    The reason is that that Intel components usually work out of the box with Linux, Intel still provides open source drivers, even for the acceleration hardware 3d. Even if the yield is low compared to ATI or Nvidia.

    I don't know, however, if a Toshiba laptop is the best solution. Computers laptop Toshiba have a large number of soft keys, etc. then you might be required to do a lot of tweaking.

  • Firefox save the header and Page layout in Linux Fedora

    Does anyone know how to record continuously the layout in Firefox under Linux (IE, Fedora)?

    In Windows, it's easy to do, under file, Page Setup, margins and header, then you can change it and click OK and he remembers this setting.

    However, on Linux, you must go to Options, file, print, and then change there, but there is no Save or OK button, so it does that to a print job and you will have to change each time.

    We must stop definitely Firefox under Linux to print anything in the header, especially the URL.

    This has happened

    Each time Firefox opened

    Always

    User Agent

    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; Chrome/4.1.249.1064 en-US) AppleWebKit/532,5 (KHTML, like Gecko) Safari/532,5

    See if it works for you - worked for me on Ubuntu 10.04:
    Type of topic: config in the URL bar and press ENTER.
    If you see the warning, you can confirm that you want to access this page.

    Put the header in the filter line and right click each of these three preferences one at a time. Select Edit and clear this code so that the box is empty - then click OK.

  • G3 book Z 17: Z book G3 default to install linux (Fedora or Ubuntu)

    I got a new Z book G3 which came with pre-installed Windows 10. It has two discs. The first

    I want to create a dual-boot machine with Fedora Core 24 as the other OS.

    I resized the Windows partition using disk management, and which seems to have been successful, because I can still start Windows 10.

    I tried to install 22 CF and various versions of CF 24, as well as Ubuntu 16.04 without success. I use CF iso DVD in a DVD USB drive as the installation media.

    The installation of live meda CF disk will well up to a point. The last line printed on the screen of the installer is always:

    Then it hangs forever.

    There are hundreds of lines before this line, but I can't understand how to capture them. The lines just above the failure are:

    I had similar problems (not identical) with Ubuntu.

    Can someone has suggestions for how I install linux on this book Z?

    Chad

    I now 16.04 Ubuntu and CentOS 7 installed next to Windows 10.

    For other linux users who want to install write on computers HP Z book G3, here's a recap of what I've done for activating facilities:

    1. Ubuntu LTS 16.04. Installed using iso DVD via DVD USB drive. To install, enter the BIOS (hit escape repeatedly just after switching on). Choose settings BIOS or similar, set install from file, then find the correct file for the USB key.

    Ubuntu installation screen is normal and informs you how to access the Setup command line. Do it and add "nomodeset" to the command line, near "ro" and "calm". Proceed with the installation. Once installed, you need to change the set grub to include 'nomodeset' as a standard kernel option. Edit /etc/grub.d/10_linux and add "nomodeset" just before "ro". There is probably a better way.

    2 centOS-7. I ended up creating a USB bootable using dd and a downloaded iso file. See

    https://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/InstallFromUSBkey. During installation, you must enter the BIOS as in (1) above. Once you start from the file, you will be presented with a mutilated wishes installation screen. You can always change the Setup command line by using 'e '. Add "nomodeset" as before, then press F10. Everything should be normal after that, you will see the graphical installation of CentOS screens. Unlike Ubuntu, once you have installed CentOS, you don't need to edit the grub implemented. I have no idea why. (I'm in over my head here).

    3. fedora Core 24. Without success to report, but now that I have Ubuntu and CentOS, alongside W10, I have need to pursue this further at the moment. I suspect the steps in (2) above, or the like, will work. You will need to "fly blind" when editing of the Setup command line and can be change grub after installation.

  • Can't get running dual boot Linux (Fedora) and Win8.1 in UEFI Duo 11 & secure boot mode

    Hello people,

    last year, I bought a 11 (Intel i5, 1.8 MHz, 8 GB RAM, 128 GB SSD) Duo with Win8 (64-bit) installed in secure boot mode. December 2013 I updated the OS 8.1 with a new license and curled UEFI & secure mode active, a few days after I installed Fedora 20 64-bit.

    Installing linux running properly, but I don't get any what startup, or UEFI GRUB menu and only earn 8.1 starts automatically. I checked the EFI partition: all files are installed in the appropriate directories.

    Can someone help me get the dual boot running?

    Thanks in advance

    Michael Wachs

    Hello again,
    Mission accomplished, I have a dual boot win8/fedora20.

    Well, it was much more difficult than expected.

    First of all, thanks to this guy, it's a bit more clearly how noncompliant efi bios on vaio actually works:

    so, let's keep in mind that the start process seems to:
    Look in /EFI/Microsoft/Boot/bootmgfw.efi; If present, it starts.
    Search in all subdirectories of /EFI/ for grubx64.efi. If present, it starts.
    Start /EFI/Boot/bootx64.efi
    Displays an error such as "The OS not found" message.

    Now, that's how I managed to do so, please note that:

    • It's more a hack here-I-fixed-it rather than a clean solution, but it works
    • There is probably a more easy/better way to do
    • a step may be unnecessary (I will say that when I suspect, but I will definitely not return to test)
    • I'm Italian and my English is awkward

    (1) enter the bios settings, select the boot from cd/dvd and disable secure boot (this may be unnecessary and can be re-enabled at the end of the process, I don't really know at the moment)

    (2) use the Fedora dvd installation (NOT 'live' one since you will need the feature of 'rescue') (Finally, you can use a direct to start and then go up and chroot for installed partitions, but it is longer)

    (3) save the system installed, this should mean pressing enter three times and ending up in a shell

    (4) if all goes well, run:

    chroot /mnt/sysimage

    (5) go to/boot/efi/EFI and follow these steps

    mv Boot Boot.old
    mv fedora Boot
    cp Boot/grubx64.efi Boot/bootx64.efi
    mv Microsoft/Boot/fwbootmgr.efi Microsoft/Boot/bootmgfwFUBAR.efi

    Now, this way our graceful bios not compliant will not find Microsoft file and will head to Boot/boot64.efi (fedora one). Unfortunately, grub scripts does not detect windows, so we need to manually add Windows entry in grub conf.

    (6) take note of the UID of the EFI partition:

    grep /boot/efi /etc/fstab

    (Well Yes, there are safer ways)

    (7) edit /etc/grub.d/40_custom and add this:

    menuentry "Windows 8" {
    insmod part_gpt
    insmod fat
    insmod search_fs_uuid
    insmod chain
    search --fs-uuid --no-floppy --set=root A609-3B1E
    chainloader (${root})/efi/Microsoft/Boot/bootmgfwFUBAR.efi
    }

    (8) now we will (re) making our new config (in our new location):

    grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/efi/EFI/Boot/grub.cfg

    I fear that this step will be necessary whenever there is an update to the kernel

    9) restart with fingers crossed

    Oh, I currently have a working dual boot windows 8 / 20 on my vaio fedora.

    My biggest fear this time, it's some obscure windows update could restore the original Microsoft/Boot/fwbootmgr.efi. Finally, I could rename it again, still, it would be boring. We'll see.

    What a great way to spend a Saturday morning.

  • Linux (fedora) convert vm with no graphical interface available?

    Can't say much more than the title we have a bunch of fedora machines which do a lot of treatment, we want to convert. The converter only I found compained about libXrender, consult the error;

    #vmware - converter - customer now

    / usr/lib/VMware-vCenter-Converter-Standalone/Converter-GUI: error while loading shared libraries: libXrender.so.1: cannot open shared object file: no such file or directory

    I installed see below;

    RPM - qa | grep libxrender-i

    libXrender - 0.9.1 - 3.1

    libXrender-devel - 0.9.1 - 3.1

    and always get the same error.  Note X is NOT installed on one of them.  All of the items I found were all early last year, so don't know if threre is a converter that works, that doesn't require x or maybe some way to CD bootable to, etc..

    Thank you.

    For Linux P2V, no matter if the source computer is physical or virtual (as long as it isn't a Xen guest).  Linux P2V I speak machine source that you want to convert in a virtual machine, not all of the virtual server.

    Assuming that this spare server hardware a compatible with ESXi, then you should load there and use it as a destination for your Linux P2V.  The question of the ESXi installation and hardware compatibility is outside the scope of the converter forums.  I just search the Web for instructions on loading ESXi (free available on VMware.com) - essentially get it on a USB key and start the machine key.  If this does not work then go to the forums of VI/ESX and try to get help with installing ESXi.

    (If your question has been resolved please check the responses as 'Useful' or 'Correct').

  • Oracle Database 10 g Express Edition & linux Fedora

    Hi guys

    How are you?

    I want to ask about my problem, that is, I can not access the homepage of the Oracle 10 g Express Edition database when I press 'go to database Home Page' Open firefox it's is not something the way I try to write the page web http://127.0.0.1:8080 / apex on the address bar but firefox gives me an error which is "unable to connect".

    So please when you know the solution post it here step by step "I'm beginner linux user."

    My distro is Fedora 14

    .. Thank you very much

    Saleh

    The stage set up was completed successfully?

    for example, you have run

    /etc/init.d/oracle-xe configure

    After you install the rpm? This is version beta of XE, 10g and 11g. You can run again to reenter your configuration settings, such as HTTP port and make sure they have the expected values of this way.
    Despite that, you could try to (re) start the service and see if it happens without errors.

    /etc/init.d/oracle-xe stop
    /etc/init.d/oracle-xe start

    If everything looks not too bad, you may have a port conflict with another service using port 8080. In this case, you might reconfigure XE for its HTTP server listening on a different port.

  • Windows 8 will not start even with the CD after uninstalling Linux

    Hi, I am currently faced with problems with my Dell Inspiron with Windows 8 3520 is installed. I had been dual-boot it with Linux Mint for a while with no problems until I decided to go completely back using Windows for convenience.  As I had installed Linux by creating a partition I followed online guides to remove the partition on which it was found, and expand the partition holds Windows to its original size. This seemed to go off without incident, until I tried to delete Grub and got to the start of the back straight to Windows computer. I followed a couple of different guides without result and finally ran a program called Boot Repair that just make things worse. After you run the program, my computer began to start directly on a screen of recovery with the error message:

    Boot your pc configuration data is missing or contains errors
    File: \EFI\Microsoft\Boot\BCD
    Error code = 0xc000000f

    After that happened, I called Dell and pushed them to send a disk of Windows 8 for me, so I could try a clean reinstall, I thought I'll fix it. Unfortunately it allows me to boot the disk. Everytime I try (when entering the BIOS and selecting the CD drive to boot from the disc) I get a message saying missing operating system, along with various things I can provide if required, and ending in asking me to insert the bootable media in the selected drive, press which just repeated the same message again. I ' v read on various fixes online without result, most who ask me to change the CD in first priority which I can't do is not listed as an option in the menu accessed by pressing F2 BIOS. I tried to add my CD drive option, but when I click in it, instead of getting the readers of CD or something like that, I get a menu called select Media Driver with options like this:

    WDC WD10JPVT-75A1YTP - Partition 1

    the only difference between them being the partition to which they are assigned, 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6. If I press on enter on any of this that it brings me to another menu called select media with a variety of different options, which change depending on the partition that I chose, which none means nothing to me. I don't know enough to try anything more, and even people at Dell seem to be at a loss. Any help would be much appreciated because I am completely lost at this point and this is my first laptop.

    The thing with reinstalling windows just is that you do not have a Dell preinstalled stuff.

  • DHCP server on a VM guest that is connected to a router (in AP mode) works on the host Linux (Fedora), but not on the host Windows (XP)

    I'm in dual boot Fedora and Windows XP, and configure a server vmware 2.0.0 122956 on both.

    Here is my config:

    Internet - Modem - vm_gw - vmnet1 (host) - vm_dhcp - router Wireless ADSL - computers laptops

    There are two physical network adapters on my host.  On the virtual machine that connects to the internet (vm_gw), I have one of the network adapters physical bridge (as vmnet0) to dial the ADSL modem and set up a network of hostonly (vmnet1) share the internet connection of the VM on the host and other virtual (vm_dhcp) computer.  On the virtual machine which also shares the internet connection to a wireless (vm_dhcp), I fill the other physical network (like vmnet2) adapters to connect to a router (in AP mode) and have a configuration of DHCP server on it and set up a hostonly (vmnet1) network to get its internet connection of vm_gw.

    I installed proper routing on my host computer and two virtual machines and this config works very well on my Fedora host.  However, the DHCP installation part does not work on my Windows XP host computer.

    The difference between my host Fedora and XP is on Fedora host, can I have two network adapters physical activated with a config 'empty' (to use DHCP or static) as in:

    DEVICE = eth0

    HWADDR = 00:11:22:33:44:55

    ONBOOT = yes

    TYPE = Ethernet

    and

    DEVICE = eth1

    HWADDR = 55:44:33:22:11:00

    ONBOOT = yes

    TYPE = Ethernet

    And there is no conflict on the physical network adapters between the host and the virtual machines.

    However, on XP host, I HAVE to configure the network adapters physical to use DHCP or static.

    If I place the physical network adapter (on the XP host) who will fill to vm_dhcp using DHCP, it will get an IP address from the wireless router and the DHCP server on vm_dhcp doesn't seem to be able to 'find' the wireless router and assign an IP address that him.

    Then I tried to configure the physical network card to use the static IP address (and assign it a fictitious IP address e.g. 192.168.123.1/255.255.255.0) to see if it would work, but it does not work either.

    Then I also tried to "simulate" the 'empty' network on Fedora config using regedit and delete (192.168.123.1/255.255.255.0) IP address on the network config and it does not work.

    Well, I'm out of ideas and I came here as a last resort.  Any suggestion/discussion is welcome.

    Thanks for reading.

    We have an internal bug to track this issue. Currently to work around this problem, you can specify the image tools manually with following steps:

    1 vm open settings-> hardware-> CD/DVD

    2 specify /usr/lib/vmware/isoimages/windows.iso (for Windows VM) "use ISO image" and select 'Connected' in the State of the device

    Then you should be able to upgrade the tools in the comments. I would like, if it works for you. Thank you!

  • [Linux] How can I see if there are new messages without opening Thunderbird?

    Hi people

    I am working on Linux Fedora (20) and wonder if there is a way to see if I have new emails without opening Thunderbird again. I usually minimizes Thunderbird and when a new message arrives, I get a notification from the office, which is great. But - if I am away from my computer for a minute, and an email arrives, I will often not see until the following is available in.

    On mac, the thunderbird icon would get one of these badges + 1. Is there a way to do this? For example, to have the title of this change of window pane Thunderbird "Inbox - Mozilla game...". «to "consult [2] - moz...» ' - or just leave the notification until I have the click.

    Thanks for the tips.

    See you soon

    To my knowledge, Thunderbird does not provide these features by default. You can use the Add-on Firetray achieve the same, however.
