Uninstalling applications can help speed up my Macbook Pro?

OS X Yosemite 10.10.5

15-inch, mid-2012

MacBook Pro (15-inch, mid-2012)

2.6 GHz Intel Core i7

16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Hello.

I know that it is one of the most frequently asked questions, so I will try to provide as much information as possible.

I got my Macbook since January 2013 and use it mainly for music.  I run X Logic Pro and Pro Tools 11 on a daily basis.  I did not have too much trouble for the first years of the couple or so, but only in the last year and especially very recently has it he was slowing down.

He started to turn off without apparent reason every time than in quite awhile, maybe a year or a year and a half ago, but the slow really started in the last months of 9 to 15.

I remember being told that these applications (Pro Tools, Logic, etc.) may slow the more after adding other applications, even if additional applications are not running.  I upgraded from 8G to 16G RAM, but it doesn't seem to help.

So you can see some of what looks like my system, I have included a screenshot.

I wonder if there isn't something practical I can do somewhere, or maybe something that I am simply?

Thank you

Matt H.

Based on the image of your 750GB drive seems to be an old style "spinning HD" (I could be wrong on this, check "System information" to confirm). Here are mechanical disks that are slower than turns SSDS. have a latency associated with heads looking to read and write data. The nature of these drives also means that data more that you store on the disk, the slower the performance will be...

Your drive is greater than 2/full of 3rd so it will run more slowly if it was empty.

I dare say that others will say this isn't a problem, just see the link above and make your own opinion. I did some tests and seen the effects of this on OS X.

If you want maximum speed exchanging the drive to an SSD. Read and write data much faster that a disk rotation, it is the operating system. The cost may prohibit you have a lot of space, so you can move data, you don't need all the time. SSDS do not get slower as they fill up, however you need disk space free for the operating system RAM & cache - files never fill a disc of Mac OS to crack.

Assuming that you used your system normally before taking these screen grabs the memory pressure seems normal. The green bar will display orange or red when memory is low, as discussed in... http://arstechnica.com/Apple/2013/10/OS-x-10-9/17/#compressed-memory ("memory pressure" was introduced to 10.9, where the age of the review).

The only apps that will "slow down a system" are those that are running in the background - antivirus, so-called 'cleaning utilities' & other junk can do. Most applications are harmless when they have no background (not to mention how the used storage space allows your rotation drive behave a little worse).

Finally, the stops are a concern - note the date and time, start to capture connects. Take it to Apple for inspection and possible repairs or maintenance. A Mac shouldn't be stopped during normal operation. It could be hardware or software.

Stores Apple will give a free initial appointment, but repairs will be charged if you have no warranty or Apple Care.
