Windows Control Panel has stopped working and cannot read the CD
Original title: windows control panel has stopped working
When I went to install my Rosetta Stone program it showed Windows has stopped working and then installed the program and when I put the cd in my computer saids windows control panel has stopped working and cannot read the cd
Hello
You say "Control Panel has stopped working" or "Windows Explorer has stopped working"?
Follow the steps mentioned in the article below and check if that helps:
Start the computer in a clean boot state
Start your computer in a clean boot state, and check if your computer is able to read the CD. Start your computer in a clean boot state helps determine if third-party applications or startup items are causing the problem. If so, you need to maybe contact the manufacturer of the program for updates or uninstall and reinstall the program.
See the following article in the Microsoft KB for more information on how to solve a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or Windows 7:
How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135
Note: After troubleshooting, be sure to set the computer to start as usual as mentioned in step 7 in the above article.

I use an AMD Turion 64 processor and I'm trying to understand why the displays of different speed every time that I open the info system in Control Panel.
I have Windos XP SP3 and have loaded the latest BIOS for my machine
Windows XP can have a hard time with the answer, she receives the CPU for this system parameter. If you have MS Word select help | All system and then news. This will give you a snapshot of system speed. Run it a few times and see what you get. Your processor seems about 5 years old. Its performance may be failing due to other system problems or just age. (Mine is same age) I have Windows 7 at work and he is much better at these settings as XP. Has got to have a pretty good PC and especially RAM to run it. I just downloaded and ran a freeware CPU - z to monitor the speed of the CPU and other parameters. Seems to work fine for your needs. You can get CPUID or CNET.COM. Com

NEW widescreen HP Monitor settings recommended 1600 x 600 at 60 Hz.
In Control Panel, appearance, display I can't access that recommend setting. What should I try? That sounds like a strange resolution for a wide screen, is there a typing error? Maybe you mean 1600 x 900?
Most likely you will need a new video card that has suppprt for resolution. You can check to see if there are newer drivers for your card which might include the resolution but in all honesty I've never seen a map to change the capabilities of resolution by a simple change of pilots, but..., that I don't know or what I have not seen would be a pretty big book so try new drivers and if that does not work then go shopping for a new video card.

Windows Explorer Crash when using the control panel
This is the type of an interesting question that happens to me only sporadically and usually only to a cold start.
When I shut down the computer completely for cleaning or install something, when restarting, open the Control Panel causes Windows Explorer to crash (note that this is not Internet Explorer).
It restarts immediately, but I lost some of the icons in the taskbar - especially the icon Sound Max.If I do a reboot it comes back and I can use the Control Panel normally. Tried to remove items from the start menu, as obviously something is in conflict when it starts but it is like shooting in the dark to find the good start. I even reinstalled W7 with a lot of attention, but it happens once again from time to time. I ran sfc/scannow several times and all is well.
As long as I don't do a cold reboot it will work very well for weeks without a hitch. (Please no comments about just don't).
Someone else has a similar problem? My specs are lower and it has not changed when I updated to the latest version of the bios so I suspect something on W7, and I strongly suspect the driver SoundMax which is in fact very old for W7X64.
All updates are underway, including the latest which was supposed to increase stability for W7 X 64. I had added this update 4/28. An accident 29/4 good. I uninstalled the update and re-installed directly from the microsoft link. Sometimes it works, but not in this case.
I studied all the information mentioned in the error codes and most of the time, it led to speculation of different people to different causes. I've read that it could be a conflict with the driver Sound Max, this is why I suspect as well that it might involve the Nvidia GPU driver. Changed the GPU driver and no joy. Whenever I have ask W7 to check a solution that is not found. So, it happens once in a while, but there is nothing wrong? At least Microsoft knows something is happening--evidence of the update.

Issues that this update fixes this update improves the stability and reliability of Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 in various scenarios. This update addresses the following issues:
- Windows Explorer crashes and then restarts when you access a third-party Control Panel item.
This update solves the problem?
If this isn't the case, please download this reg from my SkyDrive file:
http://CID-128fc518635be2dc.SkyDrive.live.com/self.aspx/.public/Ms%20Foren/registry/WER%5E_Explorer.regand double click on the file to import.
When Explorer crashes, Windows Error Reporting Service creates a dmp under C:\Localdumps . Please download the file to your public Skydrive folder and post the link here. I take to the dump, maybe I can see the cause.

How to "create an association in the Set Association Control Panel".
When I try to open certain e-mail messages (files), I am told to "create an association in the Set Association Control Panel.
I can't open these files (e-mails) because I don't know how to perform the task.
How can I do this? Where can I find this control panel?
Why do I sometimes get this message, but not always?
Hello
You must have the program installed to be able to read the attached files that programs
for example, if it is a .doc file in the attachment, you installed Word
.xls, you need Excel
. PPS, you need Powerpoint
etc.
but fortunately, there are FREE viewers provided by Microsoft for the accessories of extension file above that will save you having to buy Microsoft Office
Here are the download links for free Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint viewers:
Word Viewer
View, print and copy Word documents, even if you don't have Word installed. This download is a replacement for Word Viewer 2003 and all previous Word Viewer versions.
Excel Viewer
Open, view, and print Excel workbooks, even if you don't have Excel installed. This download is a replacement for Excel Viewer 97 and all previous Excel Viewer versions.
PowerPoint 2007 Viewer
Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007 Viewer allows you to view the presentations of all the features created in PowerPoint 97 and later versions.
and you can try the FREE Open Office applications game to read these file extensions
and here's how to set file associations
How do I... Change file extension associations in Windows Vista?

Mail icon is missing from Control Panel, what is the file name?
I have Windows Vista SP1 (x 64) and for some reason any mail icon does not appear in my control panel.
I need to create an e-mail account to connect to the Exchange Server work and Outlook requires that I have do this applet of the Control Panel Mail so that Outlook is not running.
Error message Outlook says it cannot be done in Outlook e-mail account settings when I try to Outlook.
To be clear, this is not for Windows Mail.
Any ideas?
Thank you
-MikeP.S. of course all my other computers have the mail icon in the Control Panel, but not my only main :)!
Thank you guys, I got things market! :)
Solution:
1. I did open default programs and set Outlook as the default e-mail program. I don't know who really helped.2. I found the icon/utility view 32-bit Control Panel items in Control Panel and then clicking on which revealed (and I say revealed!) the Mail icon.
A few Notes:
1. I could not open the mail utility using the control mlcfg32.cpl or control method of mlcfg64.cpl. Or the box or the command window run.
2. in the Panel of the menu display was never showing the "Veiw 32 Bit Control Panel Items", that it was just an icon buried in the list of control panel applets.
3. this bit 32 items in Control Panel just seems to be a small bucket of 4 Advanced Control Panel applets, they made it difficult to discover.
4. Outlook prefers that you perform Exchange from your default account. It wasn't the case for me, but I can easily choose the account from which to send an email when I create a new e-mail message. I tested which and it worked.Everything is good the good ends, I guess, I'm running now.

I don't see the internal microphone on the control panel
I clicked on do not use the microphone inside. It was supposed to be a temporary measure. Now the internal mic has disappeared from the Audio tab on the control panel so I can restore.
I would like to come back to the internal mic. I have a Sony VGC-JS1e
Thanks for any help
HelloTry these steps and it should allow the listener to the back:1. open the control panel. (Classic view)NOTE: Open the start menu and click on the menu button of the control panel.2. click on the audio icon.3. click on the recording tab.NOTE: This also works in the reading tab, but there are usually no hidden audio devices there.4. right click on an empty area and click Show disabled devices.5. you will now see the audio devices disabled with the arrow pointing down on them.NOTE: These audio devices may vary according to the audio card installed or chip you have.6. right-click on each listed off audio device that you want to activate and click Activate.7. you will now see this when the audio devices are enabled.NOTE: You can now change the property settings on these audio devices in the way you want.8. click OK to close the sound window. -

Why you are posting in the forum, IE? Maybe the reason why you try to use the CP is to enter Internet Options? If so, you can do it without the help of Windows Explorer (at least on your operating system) starting (using the Task Manager if necessary): control.exe inetcpl.cpl
Otherwise what your problem probably means is that you have added something new to the root of the control panel which is not compatible with your OS, causing thus the Windows Explorer (not IE) crashing. In this case, the same way you could get in Add Remove programs without involving Windows Explorer by starting: control.exe appwiz.cpl
You can get help more informed by post on a forum that specializes in performance and Maintenance of your operating system.
Good luck
