Unknown device on network adapter between the laptop and the wireless router

I am running windows 7 64 bit on a laptop computer connected wireless to the router and internet.  The router is Linksys WRT160N connected to the internet.  The map of the network, there is a question mark device unknown between the laptop and the router.  However, I still have access to the internet.  In terms of network, if I hover over the laptop, it does not show an IP address.  It only shows the name of the computer and its MAC address.  Any help would be appreciated.

Solved my problem.  I checked the button of the IPv6 protocol in the properties of a network connection on the laptop, and now I can see it's the IP address and the unknown device has been replaced by a switch and hub which is part of the router.   I do not uncheck the button IPV4.  I'm guessing that it is a bug in Windows 7 that you need to cut of ipV6 Protocol when you have a Win XP computer on the network if you want to see a map of own network.  As I said before, everything worked before, so this seems to be a cosmetic fix only.  I see that my shared files on the XP computer appear faster after a reboot.

    Hello

You should searh for your wifi network at home and connect your printer and the laptop to the network. Direct WiFi option is really only for configurations that do not have a modem/router.

You may need to disable the option Wireless directly on your printer to help the wireless configuration.

  • Laptop (windows 7) doesn't recognize computer (XP) desktop network, but connects to the wireless router

I have two computers (desktop and laptop), a plug-and-play printer connected to the desktop computer and a wireless router.  My laptop was connected to the printer via a family group on the network connection.  I've recently upgraded the OS on my laptop from Vista to Windows 7 and now my phone does not even recognize the MSHOME network which was initially established.  I am able to connect to internet via wireless router (Verizon MIA 424 - WR... or something like that) but I can not connect to desktop files, devices on it and above all terribly printer.  What's weird, this is my office always recognizes my laptop and can even connect to my laptop from my desktop.  The network is established by the office which is running XP.  Not sure if this helps, but I remember when I set the laptop computer connection / original printer, I had to do a port mapping step funky.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!  FYI, I did everything suggested by microsoft windows help.

  • How to associate a VM for the second network adapter on the host

    Hello

I have created a virtual machine and added a NIC that matches the first physical network adapter on the host Machine. I then added a second NETWORK adapter on the host. I would like to create the second network adapter on the same VM and map it on the second NETWORK adapter on the host. How can this be achieved.

When I use the "Add Hardware", I does not enumerate the physical network adapters on the host to choose and assigns a VM mac address.

    Kind regards.

VMware customers use virtual network adapters if you need for a great, a second deck on the host card, but how to do this depends on the host OS.

For Linux, just run vmware - config.pl and choose to create a second bridged network adapter, choose the right pair of physics.

For Windows, run vmnetcfg.exe (as an administrator), disable the automatic bypass and then manually fill the two physical network adapters (for example to create two VMnet adapters * with each mapping to a different physical NIC). You also need to restart the host VMware Agent services and VMware Server Web Access before these virtual cards will be available for use.

  • setting up of a second NETWORK adapter on the ESX machine...

I'm in the part of my ESX machine and I NIC one configured for LAN, but I try to activate and configure a second NETWORK adapter on this computer, so I can connect it to a VLAN different. When I go I see the place to allow the second NETWORK card (and I have) but it says always "disconnected" and I see only the settings for the first NETWORK adapter in the IP configuration screen. How can I set an IP address and stuff for the second NETWORK card, and why is it showing as offline after that I went out and restarted the management stuff?

Go under ESX / Configuration / networks.

I have recently re installed windows vista for my laptop dell inspiron 1545. You can get in trouble with your device drivers, firmware and/or software.  Go to the Device Manager by going to start / find and type Device Manager and enter and then double-click on the program icon that appears.  Check each device to a red x, yellow! or white?  These identify devices with problems probably (drivers, but also of conflict or something else).  Click on each for more details and troubleshooting tips.  If you need to get drivers (and you shouldget from Dell for the wireless adapter at all you have time to do - they can help way beyond simply solve this problem), let the computer dealer or the manufacturer of the device (NOT of Microsoft Updates).  In fact, you must disable automatic updates in Windows Update driver as follows:http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/how-to-disable-automatic-driver-installation-in-windows-vista/. Follow these steps to get the drivers: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/driverssupport/ht/driverdlmfgr.htm.  Once you have the drivers, you can install them via the Manager device as follows:http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/193584-device-manager-install-driver.html. > http://support.microsoft.com/kb/244617.

The adapter is inside the laptop.  You don't need to do something with it to install it.  Install the drivers, firmware or software for it and your version of Vista from Dell (all that apply) "install".  You must then go to start / Control Panel / Network and sharing Center and configure the adapter with the appropriate parameters and to establish the appropriate network connections.  This will take place in settings required by your ISP, and maybe your router or modem (so you may need to contact them if you don't know the settings).

  • Black screen on startup after installation of the wireless router

I recently installed a Netgear Wireless - G Router (WGR614) on my computer vista HP laptop and since then, I have experienced a few problems. One day my computer was working fine. I stopped it and when I went to leave the next day morning, the screen was black with a bunch of small lines. It would not load anything so I stop and tried again. It's the same thing. I turned on and close my count, and when I opened it upward a few minutes later the screen was beautiful. Then, I have lived the "Blue Screen of death" 3 times. I researched what the problem might be and thought that I might need to update a driver. I went to HP Health Check and there were a couple of updates on a wireless adapter and a card reader, so I installed the updates. I have not experienced the blue screen since then, but I still have problems with the black screen when starting upwards. If I leave the computer open the black screen turns to a white/blue color and nothing loads. But if I close it then after a minute or two everything is. This could be the cause?

    Hello

Start with the wireless router is not the cause of the problems. It is a stand-alone device that simply provides a network connection for your system. Offhand, I would say that you experience a hardware failure, and perhaps the time is simply coincidence. Knowing what was the error message stop can help to indicate where the problem lies, but your description of the problem is quite indicative of a hardware problem. Solve it will probably require involving a technician (contact HP if it is still under warranty).
