  • what it means?
  • How can I restart the computer with F8 safe mode doesn't seem to work

Hello

This problem may occur if one of the following conditions is met:
1. your computer uses a UDMA Ultra Direct Memory Access () hard disk controller, and the following conditions are met:
2. you use a standard 40-wire connector cable to connect the UDMA drive to the controller instead of the 80 cable son and 40 pins required.
3. the basic input/output system (BIOS) settings are configured to force the acceleration of UDMA modes.
4. the file system is damaged and cannot be mounted.

Follow the steps described in the article below and check if that helps resolve the issue.

When you restart your computer or upgrade to Windows XP, you receive the error message "STOP 0x000000ED UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME".

I hope this helps.

Hello, first of all I would like to start by saying that the type of computer I have is very old... it's a Compaq laptop with windows Vista or XP, I don't remember. something about the control bug 0xED is here:

(Which indicates that the IO subsystem attempted to mount the boot volume and it failed)

So, if you have not the administrator password, only you can do - disassemble the HARD drive of your laptop, insert it into another computer and run the CHKDSK command from the command prompt:

    CHKDSK x: /f

where x: is the HARD drive volume

  • XP does not start! UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME. STOP: 0X000000ED

When I start my Vaio laptop, I get a screen that tells me that Windows did not start successfully and gives me boot options (safe mode, etc.). I tried all the options with the same results: the Windows logo appears for about 5 seconds, then I get a blue screen for a fraction of a second, not long enough to read the error message, then the process starts all over again, again and again! I have not any hardware or software recently added. I followed these instructions for an answer to the same exact situation. (The first thing to do is to unplug all devices (printers, USB Hub, drives external, etc.) and try to start.  If this does not help your system and startup startup then pressing F8 as soon as it begins to start.  You will get the Windows startup options screen.  Select "Disable automatic restart in the event of system failure" and let restart.) I have nothing plugged into the laptop never and have not installed all the software on this subject recently. I get the error code is UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME. Hi Jcglazier,

This error occurs when the file system is damaged and cannot be mounted. Because you can not boot in any mode, I would say that you perform a Startup Repair on your computer. You can start with the vista DVD and perform a Startup Repair on the computer that should solve the problem.

    1. Insert the installation disc.
    2. Restart your computer.

If your computer is not configured to start from a CD or a DVD, see the documentation provided with your computer. You may need to change your computer's BIOS settings. For more information, see BIOS: frequently asked questions.

    1. Choose your language settings, and then click Next.
    2. Click repair your computer.
    3. Select the operating system you want to repair, and then click Next.
    4. In the System Recovery Options menu, click Startup Repair. Startup Repair can invite you to make choices as it tries to solve the problem, and if necessary, it may restart your computer, because it makes the repairs.

    Hi there SQUAWKERTWO,

0x000000ED and UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME means that your hard drive starts to do not (or has not) - I understand your financial situation (as I was once unemployed two years) but unfortunately I can't recommend you don't use your system for awhile until you can save up enough money for a computer technician to clone your entire hard drive to a new. If you continue to try to use your system, this means your hard drive can completely fail, then your only chance to recover personal files would be done by a specialist in data recovery - and they are very rarely affordable.
