Unrecognized WEP password

trying to help my son to set up the Linksys WRT546. Wireless works very well if the Security Mode is off, but when I've set to WEP and enter a password, generate and save and then try to connect to the network, I keep getting invalid password. I can then switch to rear view Disable and name appears without password, but at least works.

Why is it not the password that I entered on the site of the wireless security, not recognized?

Thank you

Armando

Hello

If you want to use WEP, it just type anything in the PASSWORD field, and then copy the KEY 1, because that which will serve as your PASSWORD. If you use WEP 64-bit, it will generate a 10-character password, as you can see the button 1-4. But, if you want to use your own password and not let the router generate one for you, please select WPA instead. Please see the link below.

I hope this helps.

I read somewhere else where someone told you shouldf be able to go online and do so; I could not find such a feature. Can someone point me in the right direction?

First of all, don't use WEP. It is not secure and can be broken by freeware within minutes. Use WPA encryption with a key of 13 + alphanumeric characters and having a special character.

However, if you want to continue to use WEP, then tell him another method for the WEP key: start the installation of the software for the pritner on your PC. Select the type of wireless connection. In the next screen, it will not find your printer just click Next and select the option "my printer is not connected or not sure. You will be prompted to connect the USB cable between the printer and the PC. Once this is done, you should be able to choose your wireless network and enter your WEP key on the PC and go ahead.

  • Unrecognized SSID password

Today, I tried upgrading the firmware to v 1.0.6.28. My first upgrade since purchase 6 months ago. (Netgear Nighthawk R7000)

Now, my main NETGEAR33 of SSID WiFi does not work in all devices (laptops, iPads, iPhones) indicating that the password is not recongnised. I have not changed the password and router configuration confirms that I use the password. The other SSID works very well (NETGEAR33 - 5G and guest SSID).

I tried downgrading the firmware to V 1.0.5.48, but it made no difference. Because many computers need the basic NETGEAR33 of SSID I'm in trouble!

    Any ideas?

    Thank you

It has been established in other threads on this forum that after this update, you MUST reset to the factory settings (there is an option in the GUI, or by pressing the button recessed on the back with a paper clip or similar until the power LED flashes, it is NOT the same thing as a simple reboot or power cycle). , then re-enter your configuration by hand. Do NOT a saved configuration restore. This does not guarantee that you won't have problems however. In fact, I suggest downgrade you to 1.0.4.28 or 1.0.4.30, as the 1.0.6.28 caused a ton of grief for many people. If downgrade you, you will probably need to do a factory reset to the default values after loading it as well.

Look through some of the other threads on this forum about this version.

    Hi BenjiBobbles,

    (a) have you shared your password with others?

    (b) have you created a password reset disk?

Windows will not automatically change your password.

    You can try things:

  • Cannot print with HP6840 since I added the password to the Apple AirPort Extreme network

I recently added to my Mac Airport Extreme network WPA password protection. While I can access the network from my computer, I can't print a HP6840, one of my two wireless printers, even if there is no problems prior to the addition of password.

I can always print to my old HP LaserJet 6MP using an AppleTalk-Ethernet bridge and managed to reconfigure my second wireless printer to work with the new password.

    I already tried the following:

Uninstalled/reinstalled the original CD and more recent software/drivers HP printer

Tried to printer configuration using the Ethernet - half thanks looking for printer, received an error message "Communication error with a printer" and the installation process has failed.

Checked: Safari bookmarks / Hello: printer does not appear

Computer and the printer turned off and restarted the computer

    None of these attempts succeeded.

Any suggestions on how to restore my wireless printing?

    Thank you.

Mac OS 10.5.7 iMac with Intel processor

I spent 3 hours on the phone this morning with the HP Technical Support. While the call cost me $35, it's probably money well spent. After trying all kinds of approaches to installation, we finally concluded that the villain was probably the combination of personal WPA2 to authenticate password on my network and the inability of the HP6840 printer (now almost 5 years) to support WPA2. Tech said that WPA2 wasn't around 5 years.

So I have two options: delete the password completely and let my unprotected network, use a WEP password (which can create an Apple AirPort and the printer can recognize) or try a WPA password. However, it seems that the airport offer only WPA-Personal and WPA Enterprise, while the printer does not seem to accept the WPA.

Even if I don't really relish change passwords again, it seems that WEP is the way to go.

Hope this helps those trying to install old printers on the new networks.

  • WEP encryption key do not forget when you restart the Equium M50-244

I use a laptop Equium M50-244, with a BT Home Hub 7838 wireless router. Almost everytime I turn on the laptop it has no wireless connection. So I have to go to control panel, network connections and that he can find a new connection.

I would then type the key to encryption WEP number twice to get a new connection.
This is obviously a long procedure, so I need to get the laptop to recognize the encryption key and save it for the next time I turn on.

I am running Windows XP Home Edition with Service Pack 2 and a Norton Anti Virus and Firewall.

    Any help would be appreciated

    Hello

I agree with Louis. Your WLAN cards support WPA encryption and, if possible, you should use it.

Anyway: try to Setup WLAN to use Windows settings and set WEP password we remind for your WLAN. I have the set up on a lot of laptops different and after choosing the publicly traded WLAN password has already been set and the only thing that must be done is to click on the Connect button.

    Use WPA or WPA2;

    WEP is not very safe.

What is your access point wireless, a wireless router?

Best way is to go to the Web site of the manufacturer of the router wireless and read their step by step instructions on how to implement.

Or read the software that came with it.

It will contain instructions on how to set up, in accordance with their brand and model...

    See you soon.

  • running two SSID, WPA2 and WEP

    Hello

    I have a WRT610N.

How isolated are two SSIDS that I can run?

I know that one runs at 5 GHz and other 2.4 GHz.  I gave each a SSID and a different security policy: I run 'sensitive' under WPA2 stuff, and I run the other supported legacy hardware that supports only WEP (for example, my son Nintento DS).

But these two keys to the same House, so to speak?  If somebody cracks my WEP network, can access the machines on the WPA network?  Or they are completely isolated?

    Does make sense?

    Thanks for any clarification.

    -Mike

Yes, they are "two keys to the same House.   Home' is your LAN.   If someone crack your WEP and intones wireless to your router, then they have access to your local network.   It would be like allowing an attacker connect your computer directly to your router.   Being on your LAN, puts the hacker in a very good position to penetrate into any other computer on your network.    Your WPA2 encryption gives you no protection from someone who is already on your local network.

The solution to your problem is to run two separate wireless routers:

    Modem - ROUTER1 ROUTER2-

ROUTER1 is set to 'Local address IP' 192.168.1.1, encryption WEP, "AP Isolation" value to "activated", (note: no printer on ROUTER1)

ROUTER2 is set at "IP address local' 192.168.2.1, WPA2 encryption, use a password (and not something similar to the WEP password).

modem is connected to the Internet of ROUTER1 port

Of the ROUTER1 LAN port is connected to the Internet of the ROUTER2 port

Channels 2.4 GHz Wireless on both routers must be different and are preferably at least 5 channels apart.  Usually channels 1, 6 or 11 are working perfectly.

With the above two router configuration, the Internet of ROUTER2 port should protect you from intruders on ROUTER1.

  • Not able to connect to new router: WEP / WPA2 problems

    Dear,

I changed my router and when I want to connect to my 8500 has more to the new network, it asks me a WEP password.

However, the new network is WPA2 protected, so the printer does not recognize the password.

The printer does not have the possibility of entering my WPA2 password for the network.

Any suggestions? The network works fine on my phone/macbook.

  • OfficeJet 7410 will not log on to the network because I can't change the security from WEP to WPA 2 Protocol

I have a Mac powerbook G4 running OS 10.4.11 and a Wireless N Router with WPA 2 security protection extreme Apple.  My Officejet 7410 has suddenly lost its ability to join the network.

Whenever I try to run the Wireless Setup Wizard on the 7410, it detects my network as a network available to join, but then asks me to enter a WEP password.  I get my password, the rotation of the gears on the screen of the printer for a minute or two, and then it displays that it is unable to join the network.

Since the extreme Apple uses WPA 2 security protocols, is the reason why the printer is not able to join the network because of his attempts to use WEP protocols?  I did a complete reset of Semi and then a full Reset, nothing helps.  I also tried selecting the option 'restore factory settings' menu without success.

I am able to connect to the printer using a USB cable, but the reason I bought it in the first place was because of the freedom of its wifi capabilities.

    Any suggestions?

My suggestions were a few ways to tell your printer on the network.  They are temporary connections used for this communication, and then are disconnected.  After this would connect you to your printer on your wireless network.

I think I know the problem: after reading the manual (new) it is specifically stated that this printer supports WPA but not WPA2. So make sure your airport the most practical (and Express) are set to WPA/WPA2 Personal utility Airport (not WPA2 Personal).

Your printer is probably the check on Airport Extreme and not the Express, so the Express in bridged mode is fine - you want only a DHCP service on your network, so looks like it is set up correctly.

  • Satellite L10-102 drivers windows 2003

My laptop will not connect to my wireless adsl modem even not wpa or wep password is enabled on windows server 2003.

    Hello

In my opinion, you should try to establish the connection on how best without passwords or the firewall settings. This device is not supported for Windows 2003 server and it is not possible to find a driver designed by Toshiba.

In my opinion driver designed for Windows XP Home edition should work too but try to identify what WLAN card is registered and check if you can find a real driver of the site s manufacturer.

If you are able to see your network, but it can not be connected, check the WLAN settings.

    Good bye

  • Ineed to resurrect an old PB, running 10.4.11.

The PB responds, but I can't go Internet. There is a map Airport installed with Firmware 9.52, systems application to enter a WEP PIN - I don't have one, but it keeps rejected. Is it possible to check the PIN code? If not, how can I retrieve or reset? Are there other measures I can / should take?

The WEP password is on the wireless router.  If you own (or control) router, configure you.  If you use a WiFi service that you do not control, you get this info from the service provider.

If the PowerBook running Tiger (10.4.11), AirPort card should support the older WPA security (instead of the WEP key) Protocol.  WPA is newer and safer.  I have a PowerBook with the earlier design for AirPort card and accessing my wireless router that is configured for WPA.  I don't think that anyone really uses WEP these days, so maybe that's why the access code that you try gets rejected.

The wireless router must also be set to compatible with the older slower 802.11b standard, if your PowerBook uses this older AirPort card.  If it is configured to only for 802.11n or 802. 11g and n, and that the AirPort card is 802.11b only, it will not work.
