Unzip/Photo bug Viewer introduced by Windows Update?
Since may, 2013 automatic Windows Update, zipped .jpg files are no longer files can be decompressed correctly with Windows built-in unzip feature. . Jpg can be read in Windows Photo Viewer. All buttons in the bar of tasks and functions right/left click in PVS are now disabled. They were not before may 2013. PVS seems to consider 'read only '. But same .jpg can be opened in paint and saved. Then, the wild poliovirus works very well with this .jpg.
This new major drawback can be fixed?

Original title: Windows updates works do not, cannot get windows updates
I had to reinstall Windows XP service pack 2. I went to the updates and got this message. The website has encountered a problem and can not display the page that you are trying to view I tried several times and got the same results.
The problem is that you need to install Service Pack 3 before being able to get all post-SP3 updates. :-)
Here's what you need to do:Preliminary work:Download the installation files of SP3, IE8 and Microsoft Security Essentials, which is an effective antivirus/antimalware program. I prefer to keep these (and other useful files) on a USB key, but this is optional. Here are the links to all the installation of three files:http://www.Microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?ID=24 (for SP3)
(You can TOTALLY ignore the message "intended for it professionals"!)
http://www.Microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&ID=43 (for IE8)
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/products/security-essentials (for MMS)
1. physically disconnect from the Internet. Also unplug all unnecessary devices!
2. temporarily disable the automatic updates. To do this:
Start | Control Panel (switch to Classic view if not already selected). Automatic updates
Select "Turn off automatic updates" and click OK.
3. install the SP3. Restart TWICE.
4. switch to IE8. Restart TWICE. (Note: it is important to let IE at the level before the upgrade to SP3 IE6.) After you are in SP3, then you can switch IE6 to IE8).
5 install MSE.
(What happens very often is that someone has their software antivirus running as they try to install SP3, which often translates into chaos! "This is why it must be done after installing SP3 and IE).
6. make sure that firewall Windows is activated (it should already be):
Start | Control Panel | Security Center
(Now you can physically reconnect to the Internet. Update Antivirus program.)
7. visit Windows Update to download and install only the critical security updates. Restart each time you are prompted.
8. reactivate the automatic updates.

After the Windows update KB973525 has been applied to the PC with Windows XP SP3, Visio 2003 Viewer, and 2007 will not come upward. It displays only a white screen with a red X. If the update is uninstalled, then the Visio Viewer works. The update is a security fix, and we want to keep this update installed. Does anyone know another way to solve this problem?

To disable the horse notification that appears in the status bar on automatic updates is turned off.
Go to start > Control Panel > Security Center > resources > change the way Security Center alerts me > uncheck automatic updates
[2] manually download the full install for IE8 exe and install IE8 and refuses to download updates at the time of the installation of IE8
http://www.Microsoft.com/en-us/download/Internet-Explorer-8-details.aspx
[3] manually download and install the latest cumulative security for IE8 update and restart the computer before
visit windows update via the shortened link in your Start menu.
When you have Win XP SP3 and IE8, it will be the necessary file recommend you download and save the file in the folder, and then double-click on and run the executable file from there.
Restart after installing IE8 cumulative security update. It should restart when installation is complete.
[4] now to connect to windows update manually through your browser using the shortcut in the start menu link. Ignore the warnings, recommendations to turn on automatic updates.
Report back please on the status and please report problems with error codes. Thank you.
Recommend you not install MSE but rather install a free antivirus like Avast or AVG.
Recommend also you do not install Windows Search 4.0 these programs not to live pleasantly on most XP machines and cause CPU excessive loading unpredictable and inconveniently sometimes interfering with the usual ability to XP if not to multitask without problems. Also recommend you only install Firefox is a browser much better than IE8 that will not work even at many Web sites.

I do McAfee and Microsoft updates manually every morning after the startup of computers so that they will not automatically be updated when I'm busy with other things
I suspect that the McAfee via Verizon security package is the culprit since the 'look' of their package and procedures changed end of December
Since then, they have had updates almost every day
And around the same time, my problem appeared on XP Home Edition, I was not able to access Adobe PDF files and had to re-download Adobe Reader XI
Any body else having the same problem?
And help get the update of Windows XP to run again?
It would not be the first step to disable automatic updates in Control Panel and manually download and install the most recent cumulative security update for internet explorer since without first, everything in the way of troubleshooting will be futile?
Download and install the latest cumulative security for IE8 update and manually restart the computer.

Windows Update for powerpoint viewer wil not install - error code 0 x 4397
I tried several times to install this update without success. Also tried the Microsoft Fixit for Windows Update, but it has not fixed the problem.
The update is
Security for PowerPoint Viewer 2003 (KB969615) update
Any suggestions? It will probably not install because most likely the update is looking for the original source.
As this is a security for the 2003 Viewer update, why not get rid of it all together and download the new version-

Windows Photo - down Viewer hitting gone?
With Windows photo & Fax Viewer, we could move forward or backward one image to the EMI hit strikes (PG. prev, PAGE down, up arrow, Basel, LeftArrow & right arrow). None of them works with Winfows 7 and Windows Photo Viewer. I need this capability!
What happened to the key sequence?
How can I make them work?
If MS refuses to repair that omission, can I get the old Windows Picture & Fax Viewer to work on Windows 7?Hello!
I managed to change a file that now allow me to use the PgUp/PgDn keys in Win7 Photo Viewer
The file is named PhotoViewer.dll.mui and it is located in %bootdrv&\Program Files\Windows Photo Viewer\en-USYou can get a--> here and replace the original (be sure to make a back-up before this operation)
I hope it's ok.
Best regards!

It has gotten to the point where I restored my computer to factory settings. Everything worked until I used Windows Update. I have yet to install an anti-virus because it was literally just yesterday that I did this, so I know it must be a Windows problem, not a firewall, etc.. If it helps, I can't display photos from katespade.com, luckybrand.com and claires.com sites product. I noticed that all of them have a zoom + and -. Any help is appreciated!
Hi, TheClaxons,
You can restore the system to a date and time before the current updates. See if that solves the problem; However, you take a big risk, access to the internet without anti-virus software.
Microsoft Security Essentials is a free software. I suggest that you download and install your security software preferred; then surf the web at your leisure.
