Update BIOS L430 UEFI 2.56 to 2.61 screen black

Hi guys, been looking around for answers to this, but can not find it more precisely.

System details:

Lenovo Thinkpad L430 2466 3F1

UEFI BIOS 2.56 installed

120GB SSD installed when I bought (2nd hand but listed as 'new' - do not know how the image of the system has been installed for the SSD)

I lived a lot of black blinking cursor problem when waking from sleep. This was addressed in 2.57 updated BIOS or UEFI 2.58 I think.

I then started getting BSOD code 101 errors of clock. I read that was never solved by an update of the BIOS, otherwise faulty hardware. So, I looked in the BIOS update and a stress test.

[EDIT] I tested the first processor software (Muessnor or a crazy name) of stress and monitor temperature with Speedfan. Temperatures never got above 75 degrees after 20 min of either small or large pieces/jobs/whatever they were. I read that a defective material was usually picked up in the first minutes of the race, but leave recommended it for 2 hours. Then I saw these processors running hot and cooling inventory systems are not too hot, so do not stress about this configuration test. So I took a compromise to 20 min each. Do all the no errors on the tests of 4-5. [/ EDIT]

Now is the time to review updates to the BIOS. Lenovo has provided the software with the laptop, so I have updated this program and ran the udpater in VantageTools. Updated itself first of all, she offered me a BIOS update.

Well, I created a system recovery disk and image of the system including system files and your data first, then closed all processes resembling processes system, disabled self-protection on Avast, shields disabled until the next reboot, process of GUI of Avast that ENDED, then allowed the BIOS update to proceed.

I left after it restarts on the screen similar to BACK and said BIOS has 999 blocks and started moving dashed lines on the screen, expecting just continue until it has succeeded or failed.

I came back 15 minutes later to a black screen. No cursor, only led power is green. I have heard no beep, even if I couldn't I was at the other end of the House.

I read about a user of HP who has had this problem and support. They said to wait a few hours and see if it is finished. Called again, told to wait still. She completed successfully after a few 20hours. If you find that a link more but it is better to try this?

Then I read about various combinations of keys (e.g., the comment by Ishaan here) to hold everything in startup, but I has not yet turned off.

What would be more appropriate things for me to do then?

So, I took the plunge based on this postand turned off. I then turned on, BIOS said worm 2.61 installed and Windows started. I rebooted, pressing F1, the installation program has been entered. Restarted, Windows starts again.

Mission success, no idea why he gave the blackSOD strangely scary but...

Problem solved.

Shut down the laptop by holding down the key SHIFT left click Shutdown to temporarily prevent a hybrid boot.

Now on TAP the ESC key as soon as you press the power button to see if it will launch the Start Menu.  If this is the case, select f10 to open the bios menu.

  • Re: Satellite L500-1WH stuck when updating BIOS

    Hi all

I have a Toshiba Satellite L500-1HW, and today TEMPRO shown to me three alerts, one of them on a BIOS update. When I tried to run the application to update the BIOS (Phoenix UEFI WinFlash) he completed the first four steps, "Load the new BIOS", "Analyze old and new BIOS compatibility ', 'Reading old BIOS' and 'Save old BIOS to the backup file', but when he reached the stage of the las,"New Flash BIOS", he got stuck displaying the message 'Region of programming Bios... '. ». Now the laptop is turned on and in fact I can use it as the application of the BIOS update does not block the system, but I don't know what to do, I dare not just to finalize the program because I don't know if the BIOS is right.

Please help me with this problem.

    Thank you.

    Hey,.

Do you have any other programs like Internet browser, Skype or something else? All programs must be closed before you start the update of the BIOS, even AntiVirus, firewall, etc. In addition, the update should be done as an administrator

In General, the BIOS update is not necessary. If only TEMPRO presents a new version, there is no reason to update. Never touch a running system ;)

  • ENVY dv6 - 7373ca: update BIOS WANT dv6

    Hello

After I managed to remove the two "unknown device" - entered the W10 Device Manager clean install thanks to this forum, I tried to upgrade to the BIOSVersion F.2D Rev a dated August 26, 2014 and listed under Windows 8 (sp68425.exe) which, according to the note, HP recommends highly.

As I was not sure if this update would work under W10, I first tried the method described (HP Notebook PC - updated BIOS) with the opening of the menu equipment Diagnostics UEFI immediately by pressing the ESC key several times, once per second, until the Boot Menu is displayed and then pressing the F2 key. But unfortunately on the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI screen of my ' WANT dv6 - 7373ca "there are only four options (1. Memory test, 2. Hard drive test, 3. Language, 4. Exit) and no option called 'Firmware Management' or 'BIOS '. Because I would have preferred a BIOS update without starting the Windows operating system, is there something I can add this missing option menu Hardware Diagnostics UEFI?

So I took the chance to run this BIOS file "sp68425.exe" in Windows 10 and everything seemed to work fine except the error message short after the new throw about 1 or 2 seconds that an error has been discovered, which needs to be solved and a percentage that was happening 100% before 10 of Windows start still.

Now, everything seems to work ok: I can access the BIOS again much easier than the old BIOS dating sometime in 2012, I can boot Windows 10 without any error message longer, I can restore my WindowsImageBackups using the repair-CD as well as well as the SystemRestoreDrive I had both created on Windows 10. And the new BIOS version number and date are displayed under the W10 and also after the start systeminfo pressing keys ESC and F1. Is there anything else I can do to check the correct functioning of the BIOS?

    Concerning

Seek and you will find what I found, it was supposed to be the latest version of "HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI" (v. 5.9.0.0) I installed immediately on the UEFI System Partition to update the old one in my laptop (c. 1.6.0.0). This provided the desired options '-update BIOS "and"BIOS-Rollback"after pressing the F2 key without having to start Windows or if this does ' t OS start.

  • M92p Tiny - no bootable disc after update BIOS to 9SKT59A (dual boot Linux/Win7) GPT/EFI

    Hello

I've updated my Lenovo ThinkCentre m92p tiny A1G 3237 - to the 9SKT59A of the BIOS version.
I use a SSD OCZ with GRUB2 and Win7/Linux dualboot (UEFI/GPT) without any problem.

After that the updated BIOS update it was SecureBoot activated and I couldn't start obviously GRUB2.

Then I disabled SecureBoot and changed the boot order, but when I try to include the SSD with x, it disappears from the list excluded bootable devices but do not appear in the devices included.

Now, I'm only able to boot using USB key where a grub2 is also installed. I'm sure it's a bug in the BIOS!

Can anyone else confirm or solved this probem?

    See you soon

    Mijenix

Updated the BIOS to 9sj960usa fixed the problem for me. As I was not able to boot using CD/USB-SSD, I was able to GRUB2 boot Win7 on a USB key and has used the flash .exe file.

  • HP Pavilion 17 Laptop: SP72853: updated Diagnostics hardware UEFI and Dual boot

On my HP Pavilion 17 laptop, I have a sollution to dual-boot Microsoft Windows 10 (upgrade to 8.1 pre-installed) and Debian Linux 8.

In order to start Debian (my main system of fact), I disabled the feature of 'safe start' UEFI. Ago, there was news that Microsoft's UEFI specification had changed and that its previous policy of mandatory "turn off secure boot UEFI" was now an option "enable disabling secure boot UEFI.

In other words, if I understand it, BIOS/UEFI firmware designed after that Microsoft's policy change can now either you allow to disable secure boot UEFI and allow you to use an alternative OS, such as Debian Linux or they can force UEFI secure boot on you and in this case, you cannot start a system like Debian...

Thus, with regard to the update UEFI available for my system, SP72853, before installing... I can always disable UEFI secure boot with this update?

Also, I noticed there is an even more recent update for my UEFI, which I assume that I will be offered to install once SP72853 has been installed. Thus, the same question about SP73263: I can always disable UEFI secure boot with this update of UEFI?

OK, so I advanced and tested myself.

First of all, I saved a copy of the previous update of the UEFI (SP72230), so I could go down to him if necessary.

So I just installed the update through HP Support Assistant, and indeed I can always choose to disable Secure Boot in the BIOS setup and boot Linux very well.

    Just for info.

EDIT: The latest update did not become an option available on HP Support Assistant now. The diagnostics UEFI version number is however one of the (5.9.0) SP72853 not the most recent one (5.9.1).

Hello, I have two questions on Portege 3410.

First: I can't update the BIOS (current usage, 1.50 there, I want to update to 1.60). Instruction does not work: I connect Teac USB into USB port, turn on the USB - FDD emulation to activate, portable switch with pressed F12, the message «Ready to update BIOS...» "appears, I touch in a hurry, but nothing happened. What's wrong?

The other: I can't install Windows XP on laptop (it does not start from USB disk or external USB DVD drive).
    How can I install Windows?

    Thank you.
    Mikhail

    Hello

Just a question: why do you want to update the BIOS? Is this really necessary?
I ask this question because this update is always somewhat risky and you might damage it ROM module
In any case, have you tried to load the default settings in the BIOS before you start the update and install XP?

You can install XP without CD. Therefore, you must copy the folder i386 on the HARD drive from another computer and the boot to the HARD drive files, I think you need a little search with Google to find a workaround for this. You should find enough! ;)

  • Don't recharge Tecra S11-119 - updated BIOS question too!

My computer is a year. It was quite well, until I noticed that he had ceased to charge the battery. After some googling I found that there could be an update of the BIOS, that I had missed. When you try to install the BIOS update, I get a message saying I need to plug in my computer first (which is always that the dough is not a charge).

BIOS update program says he wants to be updated as follows:

BIOS version: current Ver.2.60--> updated Ver.3.20
THIS Version: Current Ver.1.80--> updated Ver.1.90

    OS: Windows 7
    BIOS file I downloaded: bios-20110714132558

Is this a known problem with a fix available?

    Hello

Are you sure that you have downloaded and used the good version of the BIOS.
I have read about similar error message and finally the used user isn't compatible BIOS.

In addition the VAP (value added package) must be installed to update BIOS! In case you, I recommend you to reinstall this tool too.

But I'm not quite sure if the BIOS update will help you solve the problem of battery m
