Update error 80073712

I have a Windows Vista Home Basic. I get this error when installing updates. I tried a system restore several times. All other solutions don't seem to work for me. I also get it when downloading internet explore 8 and sketchup 7. I've had this error for about 6 months now and it is very annoying. Help, please.

It is important to run an antispyware software whenever you use your computer. Software spyware and other potentially unwanted software can try to install on your computer at any time that connect you to the Internet. It can also infect your computer when you install some programs using a CD, DVD, or other removable media. Malicious or potentially unwanted software can also be programmed to run at unexpected times, not just when it is installed.

Windows Defender alerts you when spyware or potentially unwanted software attempts to install or run on your computer. It also alerts you when programs attempt to change important Windows settings.

When you use Windows Defender, it is important to have up-to-date definitions. Definitions are files that act like an ever-growing potential threat of software encyclopedia. Windows Defender uses definitions to determine if software that it detects software spyware or other potentially unwanted and then you software warn of potential risks. To help keep your definitions up to date, Windows Defender works with Windows Update to automatically install new definitions as they are released.

You can disable windows defender if you use microsoft security essentials, norton and another good program antivirus

Thank you for your response. I tried the fix troubleshooting for Win 8 update problems, and the Dism tool via the prompt - without success. According to me, he said he had found corrupt files but could not repair (all). Finally, I used the installation disk, choose the option to save my files, settings and applications. That fixed the problem and I can now be updated successfully.

    Windows 7 SP1

I got these during some time and tried all the things suggested in many answers CIHI / other forums. Some updates won't be finished and keep re-setup

    I tried for example

    -Run the system scan tool

-installation pre req IE10 and IE11 - tried but not applicable to my computer PC

-all-in-one-repair tool (that managed to get the job of Ombudsman)

-SFC - but it does not work in normal mode or safe.

    OTHERWISE the PC works OK

Tried to run all the viruses / malware checkers available - no thugs file detected

A response suggests I check the CBS and that seemed to be important
