Update for Dell XPS 8300

Will be the 02 G-P4-2663-KR of EVGA Geforce GTX 660 FTW Signature 2 2 GB GDDR5 192 bits PCI-E 3.0 x 16 HDCP and the Cooler Master eXtreme Power Plus RS-550-PCAR-E3 550w ATX12V V2.3 power supply work in my computer Dell XPS 8300. I ordered end of March 2012 and he received mid April 2012.

Hi FuzzyTrex,

Dell XPS 8300 comes with Intel H67 Chipset and a PCI Express x 16 card reader for the expansion of video card options. Dell has tested XPS 8300 with the following video cards:

  • ATI Radeon HD 5450 5670 5770 5870 6670 6770 6870 6950
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450 GTX 460 GTX560Ti GT545 GT420

However, Dell has not tested 660 GTX video card with XPS 8300, many users have reported he will be working and compatible with the system.

EVGA GTX 660 requires a minimum of 450W power supply and has a maximum circulation of power of 140W. As you said that you would improve the power of 550W, the video card should work with this configuration.

For installation/replacement of the video card, you can view XPS 8300 repair here.

Note: Make sure that you follow the instructions in the manual before installing the video card.

I hope this helps.

  • Update video card for Dell XPS 8300

    I'm looking for suggestions for a video card to replace the original NVIDIA GT420 DDR3 1 GB video card in my XPS 8300 running with Windows 7 64 bit.  The PSU is rated at 460 W (+ 12VA-18 a; + 12VB 16 A; + 12VC 8A; + 5V 25A; + 5V to the 2 0a; 3.3V 17A; and - 12V 0-3).  I would avoid upgrading the power supply if possible.

The original of the NVIDIA card is a PCI Express x 16 slot.  I don't know if it's PCI Express x 16 or PCI Express 2.0 x 16.  Someone knows for a desktop XPS 8300 bought July 2011.

    Thank you.

It is difficult to determine how quiet a card can be if you look on the comments of the people who bought the specific card you want, or you happen to find a professional opinion on this.   I find most of the double slot cards or cards with the biggest fans to shut up, so I don't think you need worry too much noise.   I have a Sapphire HD 6870 and it's very quiet.  I don't know the HD 7750 is fine for your application and games even if it will happen later.  With the game, you kind of match the video card with the monitor you own and resolution capabilities.  If you have a high screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 or more and you want to set this resolution, then you want a better video card.  After rebate, it may be that a difference of $20 between the 7750 HD and HD 7770 so keep that in mind also.

  • MAXIMUM RAM FOR DELL XPS 8300

I read that we can have a max of ram to 32 GB, even if the max ram on the manual is 16 GB. If so can I use: CT102464BD160B - crucial 8 GB 1600 UDIMM DDR3L? Why is there an L of DDR3 and why U infront of DIIM? I want to make sure that it would be compatible with my computer and not waste money on it if it does not work. Thanks in advance for the answer to this post.

It should work perfectly.  All memory DDR3-1600 with whom I worked this downclocks nicely at 1333 Mhz.  I have a couple of systems who got upgraded hand and DDR3-1600 memory and it works perfectly fine at 1333.

I have the Dell xps 8300 Intel core i7-2600 processor 3.40 GHz AMD Radeon 6670.I graphics card would like to move my PSU and graphics card. I would like to know my high-end video card. I think on gtx 970. It works with my pc

Maybe not. There seems to be some compatibility issues with Nvidia.

A Radeon 7950 and corsair CS850M would be perhaps in order.

  • Dell XPS 8300 GPU issues

    I had a Dell XPS 8300 since 2011.

    The specifications are:

    Image Intel i7-2600 3.4ghz processor

    460W POWER supply

    8 GB RAM

Sapphire AMD Radeon HD 5670 1 GB GDDR5

My problem is that my video card is dead after 4 years and I need a replacement as good, or better, for less than $100. At first, I thought it was easy. Ordered a GT 730, a card nice entrance a little better than the 5670 range and more efficient power and he went through the installation process. The AMD drivers, uninstalled, change video card and it fits perfectly. The problem is that I just get a black screen on startup or, sometimes, the Dell splash screen.

After hours of research I discovered that this won't work because the motherboard, 0y2mrg and it's bios, A06, are incompatible with the new GPU. Seriously? Rarely have I never heard of this problem. The last update is in 2011, the same year that I got this PC when it was new. What the hell with the lack of support?

Whether it is, I'll find something which is compatible, but unnecessarily difficult. Those who have asked the same question to be taken from a few years ago and expired or no response. I've seen the Dell has approved the cards and they are ridiculously overpriced for what they are. The 5670 is a super card low-end and was again released as a back then, but Dell wants to sell for more than $200? If I try to look for it on other sites, like Amazon or Newegg, it is almost impossible to find or too expensive.

My question is this, what is a good video card that costs more than $100 - $110 that works with the card mother Dell XPS 8300 and requires no other parts to change?

Yes, I actually. The variant 750 GTX & it worked perfectly. I guess that something more old than they would be too much like GTX 780 if you wanted something strong, but you would probably need a bigger power supply. The GT 720 and 730 WON'T WORK if you wanted a less expensive solution. The GTX 750 TI is perfect as a modest solution however.

  • The upgrade of my Dell XPS 8300

    Hello

Currently, I use my Dell XPS 8300 with set up the following:

    • Intel core i7 - 2600 to 3.4 GHz
    • 8 GB RAM
    • GPU: Radeon HD 5770
    • PSU: 460W (AC460AD-00)

It has served me well but shows it's age while I was looking to upgrade the graphics card and the power supply if necessary. But this is the first time I did something like this then I'd some tips / warnings on the potential pitfalls before buying something.

After doing some background reading, I was thinking get a GTX 970 and upgrade the PSU, but I would like to know, questions, I could deal with that. I heard there were problems with XPS 8300 bios don't do not work well with graphics cards. I am currently on AO3, but there is no problem if necessary upgrade.

My budget is around £400-£500 if anyone knows the best ways to update my PC.

    Thank you.

Consider using this for now until you can buy new. Spending that much on unnecessary updates are not handy on a computer that is a few years old. You have a good installation now - 8 GB of ram, big power, i7 cpu that is best for your motherboard - as long as everything works. New computers can easily be purchased for what your budget allows for upgrades. The only thing to consider is a video card a little better that your power supply will take place as well as better control that you can use when you get a new computer. Ignore the upgrade of processor since that is not worth the expense or effort for minimal returns. You most likely impossible to switch the cpu to a newer version without replacing the motherboard. I would make sure to have the latest and probably last - bios A06.

  • Connection continues deleting Windows 10 Dell XPS 8300

    Hi all

I have problems with my Dell XPS 8300, I installed the new 10 windows a few weeks back and since the installation of connection to internet keeps falling.

My internet is with Virgin Media and I connect directly via an Ethernet cable to the router.

Said my Broadcom Netlink gigabit Ethernet network card

After doing some research I think my card is called BCM57788

    Thank you

I'm glad to hear that I am not on my lonesome.

I did as you did and downloaded the Intel scanner from their site. The only thing he told me was that I need a later version. INF file.

I also watched the page drivers Dell, which is not up-to-date. Intel reported the update is not listed, but there is a BIOS update, when I try to apply it, saying that it is older than the current version. Not very useful.

I'd install the Intel update but I'm not sure if it will work. There are a lot of guard, but not much reassure layouts.

On top of that, Dell does not do anything to see if my machine is able to win 10.

As usual, Dell are completely behind the curve on this.

  • Dell xps 8300 help!

HEY man I m new here. I have Dell XPS 8300 bought a year ago and I currently have card nvidia geforce gt 420 and im interested to buy GTX 660 2 GB ram Nvidia geforece. Because it requires the PSU because it so advise me if my pc can handle this card with the purchase of a power supply (currently I have nothing just the pc as it came with gt420).

    Hi paryant,

XPS 8300 comes with 450W power supply. GeForce GTX 660 Minimum system power requirement is 450W.

However, to get the maximum use of the video card, it is recommended to use higher watt power.

  • Change of motherboard Dell XPS 8300

    Hello

I have a Dell XPS 8300 since 2011. Unfortunately, my printer ruined my motherboard with an electric shock. I put another card mother microATX in my PC? I've heard that some people had problems with Windows 7, it works with the card mother Dell OEM, but other wise I heard that it is only in the USA, a problem, because we in Austria have other laws. If it works, the old RAM will work with the new motherboard?

Printers give electric shocks.  This is probably a power surge which fried the Mo and probably other hardware in the computer. Dell computers have motherboards owners so you would need a new Board from dell. It would be a waste of money to buy anything until you determine the extent of the damage. All the ram, processor, pci cards, etc. could also be goners. Best bet is to buy a new computer. Buy a computer for your new UPS battery backup unit.

  • My Dell XPS 8300 hard drive fails? Intel Rapid Storage detects the error when starting upwards.

My computer (dell xps 8300) has recently frozen and when it restarts it scored one of my RAID 0 hard drives as being a mistake. Surprisingly, my computer still works as always and after an investigation, I traced the gel to vuze trying to check a file after he was already down. I deleted the files causing the freeze and have not yet encountered any more freezing problems. But I'm still very worried, so I ran a disk check, who quickly said the disc is clean, and I also ran tests HD (Long & short) dell support center several times and they always say that readers are working properly. Today, I ran a checkdisk windows another who had a lot more time but seem to come clean. But to restart the computer disk was marked later once again as being a mistake. So I ran the tests of short and long and difficult road dell support center, once again, and the sound still saying everything is working properly. I then decided to try to start some other diagnostics of hard disk: seagate seatools and rescuer of Western Digital. The player has passed the tests of the Seatool, but almost immediately failed the tests of rescuer WD giving the error that there are too many bad sectors. Any advice on how to proceed would be much appreciated!

Lack of an operating system is the message you get when in fact there is a properly peripheral storage seen by your BIOS, but it is not a valid partition with a valid boot sector table.

I fear that you may have installed the operating system on a RAID-0 configuration and only now try to start from one half of the band?  Yes, you can WD 500 GB RAID-0 an and a 1 TB Seagate together.  It would be foolish (same capacity as a single player, but all the falls of RAID-0) but the computer doesn't know any better.

The RAID configuration (breaking apart the RAID) must arrive before the installation of the o/s.  The RAID/mobo card is one of the early stages of the process, he takes these 2 physical disks and mounted as a storage to the motherboard, allowing it to boot from it etc.

No matter what is happening currently, my advice would be to remove the RAID from the system discs.  You don't want a broken drive / failure connected, even if you do not use it because the computer will continue to warn / complain the RAID broke, the startup BIOS will be keep showing you a disc is seen mistakes SMART, and finally the failed drive can degrade to the point it actually damage something.

  • New Dell XPS 8300 constantly lock up... Help

Hi, I have bought and received last week a new XPS 8300... Intel Core i5-2300, 8 GB of RAM... of the big problems right off the bat.

The computer hangs regularly completely, making the mouse + keyboard is useless, and the only way out is to do a hard reboot (button for 5 seconds to turn it off, then turn it back on). There is no blue screen of death, rather the image on the monitor just freezes. What happens once per hour, which is totally unacceptable. There is no apparent trigger, it occurs while I'm on the Internet, while I'm in MS office, while the screen saver is on, etc.

At first I thought that it could be a driver problem with the monitor (my Samsung, Dell no), but I installed the proper drivers and it still occurs. Then I thought it could be malicious software (even on a new computer), but a thorough analysis revealed nothing. I'm afraid now that it is a problem of the CPU heat and took to temporarily put a fan life-size in the face of the case of the Tower, which is already well ventilated. This has apparently slowed the fair of the grip, but they still arise. I have already installed a few programs and transferred a few files and really don't want to go through the hassle of referred to Dell for weeks.

Any thoughts? Anyone with similar problems? It's maddening.

Good news: the new video card works great.

Problem: Freeze the system hard. To see if you're hard frozen, press [CAPSLOCK] - If your keyboard led doesn't change, then you're hard frozen.

    Overview of the steps:

    * Full system reinstall twice

    * All the drivers reinstalled twice (DELL and manufacturer)

    All change memory (and back)

    * Supply voltage test

    * Test memory full w / using Diagnostics: tester of Dell Diagnostics Memory Diagnostic Windows, Linux (Hiren s)

    * Checking the system with the Dell Diagnostics.

    * CPU - Z checking to ensure this chipset was not in the recall list.

After all the Frost was still involved. So with the system in the State of origin (via Dell Restore), I installed a 9800GT graphics card and the gel stopped. I checked the ATI again, freezing, older drivers still froze. Reference Dell shipped a GTX560ti and the system works perfectly.

It is not a widespread report of all cards ATI in i7 systems does not so I don't think it's just a driver problem, I think that the problem is related to this chipset supporting not communication with the GPU via the ATI drivers.

Solution: Replace video card with Dell supplied GTX560 ti
