Update hangs on XP SP3 (KB2183461)

How to debug the issue?  I have the KB2183461 - IE.log and WindowsUpdate.log.

(I had problems before installing, specifically the installation of iTunes crashes too.  I don't know if they are related.)

Thank you.

Hi randdeck,

1. are you able to work on the computer after the update hang?

2. do you have security software installed on the computer?

Method 1

Try to download and install the update manually, check if it works.

Update cumulative security for Internet Explorer for Windows XP (KB2183461)

http://www.Microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=bc949915-4E16-4897-A295-2f99102548ab&displaylang=en

Method 2

If the previous step fails, then I suggest that you put the computer in a clean boot state and try to install the update.

How to configure Windows XP to start in a "clean boot" State

http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/310353

Reset the computer to start as usual

When you are finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:

(a) click Start, type msconfig in the search box and press ENTER.

(b) If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password or click on continue.

(c) under the general tab, click the Normal startup option, and then click OK.

(d) when you are prompted to restart the computer, click on restart.

I hope this helps!

Unfortunately, this happens to a lot of people lately.

    Windows Update problem (new)

The following procedure applies in the case of installation (reinstall) Windows 7.  It does not apply to a usual, normal day.

I'm afraid that you will do the reinstall again.  Not a terrible penalty to pay.  Usually takes less than an hour.  Then immediately proceed to the next procedure.   It's strange, but it really does work and many people have proved it.

NEVER install anything other than Windows updates until your system is up-to-date.  Once you have the list update, install all together.  Installation of updates in batches is not expedite the process or do better.

    1. Before you begin to re - install, download (32 or 64 bit) KB3083710 and KB3102810 in advance and store on a USB
    2. Start and end the re - install Windows 7 SP1
    3. Before that the newly installed system can go online for the first time, Disconnect the computer from the Internet.  This chronology is essential.
    4. Install KB3083710 and reboot manually.
    5. Install KB3102810 and reboot manually.
    6. Restore the Internet connection, and run Windows Update as usual.
    7. After a few minutes, you should have a lot of updates to download and install.

  • For v.15 auto update on TUE and now I get hangs (freeze XP SP3 completely) every few hours. Help!

    Question says it all.

I think I should get off until bugs in v.15 are developed. How do I do that?

    It's good to know.

For the moment, I think that maybe my problems were related to the material. Fixing the voltage of my video card seems to have solved my problems. Without blockages with Firefox since then.

It seems that Firefox may only put a heavy strain on the video card is causing problems. Weird, but that seems to be compatible with all the symptoms. Not sure why v.15 would put more stress on the video card, but it may have been a coincidence.

Icon problem seems to have disappeared as well. Can only assume that it was somehow connected.

  • BIOS update problems. After SP3 update, I got the BSOD and cannot be run in Mode without failure.

Yesterday I went to the AMD site to download the latest version of the BIOS.  I installed the SP3 for XP and got the BSOD but no details, only four error codes after the Stop 0x0000007e.

Registered under a WinZip BIOS and when I opened it, it was defined as a file of VLC media player, which seemed poorly, and as a text file, which seemed wrong.  Earlier, but I had been able to open it, then run, and then he said that I had to stop so he could activate.  So when I said if turned off, the system said, hang on, it's not over and if you stop now, you may lose files.  So I waited, nothing happened.  So I did it again, and he says that you want to uninstall, suggesting it was already installed.

If it has been installed, it has obviously had no effect on my BSOD problem.  Only, I can boot into safe mode since I've upgraded to SP3.  And a question he says might be the problem, it's a BIOS updated.

Have I not two BIOS?  One for the CPU and one for the motherboard?  I went to update my ASUS MB, but who could have got WinZip number, not the AMD BIOS for the CPU.  Anyway, still getting the BSOD.  And when I started, I don't think that the version of the BIOS has changed.  But I could check my version against the latest versions, and I'm seriously out of date.

    I have an AMD Athlon 64 X 2 6000 + 89v.

    Motherboard is ASUS M2N-SLI-Deluxe

I really don't think the updated BIOS updated.

  • Problems with Windows Update and load XP SP3

I had a problem with my system and had to replace my HARD drive and reload XP and all my applications and data.  Now, I installed SP2 and try to install SP3. Windows Update does not work (get the 080244019 error code x) and when I try to install the SP3 files from the Microsoft site, it'll run about halfway through and then stop and hang, displaying the message "Finish Installation" with bar at halfway of the progression.  I tried the MSRT and FixIt nothing helps.  I checked services.msc to see all the required services are enabled or started.  I read that some malware will be stop some services without notice.

After a few attempts to load the file SP3 failed, check Add/Remove programs in Control Panel Windows XP Service Pack lists 3 but no file size or to update the date information as with other programs.  My browser is IE8 and I was doing some Hot fix for Windows XP downloads, this adventure started about 3 weeks ago, but no other automatic update downloads.  I use the following McAfee provided by my ISP for protection AV and firewall with regular full scans.  Scan today revealed there is apparently a single trojan file that cannot be deleted, but there were no further details.  My system is also fully functional; I seem to get the updates for McAfee and other applications OK but not SP3.  I received or otherwise installed following updates or Hot Fix for XP downloads in the past 3 weeks:

    KB954550-v5

    KB932823-v3

    KB915800 v4

    KB884020

    KB926239

    KB2618444 (Windows IE8 security update)

I found an answer on another forum on editing the registry for the "/ Edit EDWARD CSDVersion value ' but have not yet tried waiting for any response to this request.  I'd like some useful suggestions.  Thank you and happy new year!

Thanks for the quick response.  I did some checking on my system, I have XP Home Edition ships with the system bought in July 2007.  Add/Remove Programs shows that the aborted install XP SP3 and IE8 installation; I tried to load the SP2 file but it doesn't show here as an addition, so it may have been part of the original XP CD and I just crush.  Even for IE7 so I am not able to drop back to all recommend you.  I will try your solution later today and post my results. I saved SP2, SP3 and IE8 in my office and a flash player to reload later according to your instructions.  Stay tuned.

It would be unusual for a CD of Windows XP (official) to have integrated Internet Explorer 7.

You cannot run windows update using Firefox because it uses controls ActiveX Firefox is not (and will never). Yes, then unfortunately use IE for Windows update.

  • Dialog Windows Update hangs

    Hello world

Yesterday in the middle of the workday restarted my computer and I lost a program I worked (I already coded again). I think it might be automatic update of Windows. Then, after that, I tried to wear this dialogue and set my settings to manually install updates.

However, whenever I try to bring up this dialog box and do something, it hangs and I have to kill it using Task Manager.

Do you know what should I do? It would be rather some viruses? I use MS Essentials as my anvivirus program. Recently, I did a manual scan and it found 3 (deleted) Trojan. I don't know how they are in first place.

In any case, do you know what I would do in this situation?
