Update Installattion failure

I have a compaq presario 6350us with wxp sp3 and it has a few updates waiting to be installed, but the updates always fail to install. The updates are security for Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 on Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 x 86 update (KB2656370)
Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 on Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 x 86 (KB2656353). They are still unable to install.

Hello

If I understand correctly, you are unable to install Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 on Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 x 86 (KB2656353) and Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 on Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 x 86 (KB2656370) due to errors.

Since you have SP3 .net 1.1 framework work should already be installed or overwritten with .net 3.5 framework, however, you must check the version of the .net framework is installed on the computer and then continue to troubleshoot the problem.

Also provide information for a better understanding of the issue.

1. What is the exact error message?

2. What are the recent changes of hardware e software performed on the computer before the question?

Please post the exact version of the .net framework so that I can send you the appropriate troubleshooting steps installed on the computer.

How to determine which versions and service pack of Microsoft .NET Framework levels are installed

Hope this helps

  • vamicli update - check: failure: obvious editing error analysis.  Please contact your dealer.

To better understand the process of update, I built two versions of my virtual device.  I installed the one 'old' and I'm doing it to check updates.  When I check for updates (with the web interface or the vamicli interface, below), I get the same error:

vamicli update - check failure began: obvious editing error analysis.  Please contact your dealer.

Now, I kind of cheated on the repository.  On my VMware Studio camera, I use the web server integrated and created a directory in/opt/vmware/www/ISV to use as a custodian, because I'm just trying to test such things out in my lab.

Having done this, I can see in the newspapers of apache2 on my VMware Studio device it is manifest, indeed, read (I turned on the access_log):

    10.86.150.84---19/Aug/2010:18:50:35 + 0000-"GET /ISV/repository/manifest/manifest-latest.xml HTTP/1.1" 200 66821

The build process had no problem putting a bunch of files in the repository, and it seems that the 'old' device becomes the file downloaded correctly.

But he doesn't seem to like the file...

Other things to note: I'm doing this in a laboratory without access to the internet and if no proxy either.  I was wondering if there were files that had to be pulled from the internet open to allow analysis to what appears to be the python .xml, but through some hacks that I don't even want to discuss, I do not see any other access on the web of the device when it tries to check the updates.

I tried to strace the vamicli-update, but... There are a lot of things out there, and I can't find clearly something wrong.  Missing a lot of things, but the actual analysis (if it is really what is a failure) is far from clear.

I found where the error message comes (with ropes), it's:

    libcmpiVAMI_Update_Provider.so

which is not a surprise.  I can't find the source for this anywhere on the VMware Web site, so I don't know exactly what goes wrong.

It is difficult for me to believe that he is really a parse error - somehow, I imagine that something in the environment is simply not true and that is causing the parser does not properly or maybe he failed even to the analysis.

But if anyone has some answers (or ideas of what to try next), I would of course like to hear.  Thank you!

The list of RPM packages installed in the virtual machine is analyzed once the build is complete, then the manifest is generated from that.  In this way, all additional packages which is drawn in ISO, etc. are included.

  • 8 Java 66 update installation failure

The update of Java 8 66 Setup does not end. I downloaded the full installer of Java. After you have entered my PW to install, I clear Yahoo option and press to continue. Later popup flashes on the screen and disappears, and then nothing. I never get a success message and the Panel shows old version. I tried to install fresh boot. After searching the Java forums, I did an uninstall of Java and reinstall fails. So now I have nothing.

    Try a reboot.

Make a backup using Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure that data files can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.

Try to set up another admin user account to see if the same problem persists. If back to my Mac is enabled in system preferences, the guest account will not work. The intention is to see if it is specific to an account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.

Isolate a problem by using a different user account

If the problem is still there, try to start safe mode using your usual account.  Disconnect all devices except those necessary for the test. Shut down the computer and then put it up after a 10 second wait. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the SHIFT key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. Startup is considerably slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a check for directory and disables all start-up and connection, among other things. When you restart normally, the initial restart may be slower than normal. If the system is operating normally, there may be 3rd party applications that pose a problem. Try to delete/disable the third-party applications after a reboot using the UN-Installer. For each disable/remove, you need to restart if you do them all at once.
