  • Update Manager fails to analyze host to upgrade.

I just recently updated Virtual Server 4.0 Update 1. My next step is to update my servers ESX 3.5 to 4.0 Update 1. After going through the steps and the creation of a reference database that I was unable to analyze the host in order to get it updated. I received the following error message.

VMware Vcenter Update Manager had an unknown faliure. Responsible for check and tab events and logs for more details.

    Got this error?

    Thank you

Now, I have the solution. You can find it in http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsp_vum_40u1_admin_guide.pdf on page 45:

-vCenter Server and Server Update Manager are installed on the same host and their database instances are on

    two different hosts.

If you separate the VirtualCenter 2 databases and the UpdateManger to different SQL servers.

Without having to disassemble, I get the following error message:

Setup has found that several schemes exist in the database, please remove the additional schemas before you continue.

If you can not ignore this message, you should really separate the VirtualCenter DB of the UpdateManager-DB.

    What's new with 1 updated in ESX V4.0, it wasn't a problem.

    Any clue?

You can use the update to patch the host operating system, but it will not update the application.  In order to improve the view, you will need to download the media.

  • Update Manager fails to download the patches

    Hello Experts,

I have vCenter 5.5 running on win2008r2 and Update Manager (VUM) installed on the same vcenter. I have deployed UMDS (Download Manager Update service) to download patches. UMDS is installed on a different server. Under Download Manager update view Admin tab option, I gave the url path web https UMD patches like "shared repository. I added following links via UMD as a download URL command line: -.

    https://hostupdate.VMware.com/software/VUM/production/main/VMW

    -deposit - index.xml

    https://hostupdate.vmware.com/software/VUM/PRODUCTION/csco-mai

    csco/n-deposit - index.xml

    http://vibsdepot.HP.com/HPQ/mar2014-550/index-drv.XML

Patches have been downloaded by UMDS I can see in download store path, joined screenshot in one of the comments below. But I don't see a single patch on patch repository tab of the Update Manager. It shows the Virgin.

Do you know what could be the cause?

    Thank you

so the culprit was the inheritance of the permissions on the patch store, followed this article and it worked.

  • Upgrade from 4.1 to 5.0 with host Installation on USB Flash drive

Hello, I have a question regarding the upgrade from 4.1 to 5.0. that a host is currently boot from USB. We hope to be able to update through the Update Manager, and I wanted to see if there were problems in the upgrade in this way. More precisely, if there will be problems because the facility is currently on a USB drive compared to a normal hard disk. Also, the config scratch is currently located on a SAN drive connected to the host. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

    Hi Sir,

Yes, according to my understanding of the ESXi see only irrelevant training VMFS filesystem, it is installed on.  So, the Update Manager should work well for us.

  • Can upgrade you 5.1 to 5.5 ESXi host using the zip file?

I read the KB articles which seem to indicate that, to upgrade an ESXi host, you must use a vSphere Manager or an ISO on CD or USB.   But I saw someone go from 5.1 to 5.5 by downloading a zip file and running the commands, as indicated in http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 2008939.

When you connect through the vSphere client, it seems to indicate that it has updated to 5.5, but I fear that this may not be an upgrade path has officially supported or may be missing something.

Anyone here can comment if you can upgrade between the press point with a zip and and the upgrade of the above method fix?

  • Acer eRecovery fails when upgrading from XP to 7

Hi - I have an Acer Veriton M265 that came with XP as a preload and rights to upgrade to Windows 7.

I wanted to run XP and load Win 7 then attempted to use the "Recovery" button on the front of the machine.  I could not recovery appear.  I had my own set of recovery CD (2 discs) and I launched the restore CD.  CD, I created when the system was born.  The installation runs through and looks like it will be successful.

But, after that a reboot (invited by the eRecovery software) Windows starts, shows the colourful animation, the join of the orbs in the middle of screen, screen shows "Starting Windows" and then nothing.  If you look at the Windows 7 4-color 'flag' it continues to vibrate but nothing else happens.  I left it this way for an hour.  I tried reinstalling from the CD at least 4 times.

But - I can do this: type Alt/F10 to the POST and I don't get a menu to change the boot with a training Path, Partition Options: 1, Hark disk: and then a note: [/ NOEXECUTE = OPTIN] if I press ENTER to continue, Windows 7 starts up normally.  IGet my desktop, icons and everything seems normal.  If I have a detour not with Alt/F10, then I'm back to the same blocked on Windows is starting up.

Is this something simple like an editing tool that the Boot.ini file is missing?  I can't get any guaranteed help Acer itself.  But I hope someone here will know the correct procedure to get the boot to complete sequence.

    Thanks and I'll be standing.

    Hoib

If your Advanced menu does not have a "Repair your computer" option, you will need a Windows 7 repair disk. You will need one computer working Windows 7 to make it one, if you do not.

The ERD also has the ability to "Startup Repair".

Good luck and let us know how you go!
