Update of firmware and drivers controller PowerEdge 2900

Hello

I have server PowerEdge 2900. Current configuration I see on OMSA:

BIOS version 2.3.1 (former)

Controller PERC 6 / i integrated.
Version of the firmware is up to date.
Firmware Version 6.0.2 - 0002
Minimum Firmware Version 6.3.0 - 0001
4.05.01.64 driver version
6.1.7601.17577 Storport driver version

I need to upgrade the firmware of the controller and make the Windows updates on this server. My questions:

What is the correct order for the upgrade:

  1. Windows updates
  2. BIOS,
  3. ESM firware,
  4. Bottom of basket SAS firmware,
  5. Disk controller
  6. Firmware of the controller,
My questions would be:
How can I verify ESM and bottom of basket SAS version of the firmware on my server, maybe I do not need to update those?
On the Dell support site, I could find only:
Dell Server BIOS, 2.7.0Dell SAS Backplane Firmware, v.1.05, A01Dell BMC Firmware, v.2.50, A00Dell PERC 6/i Integrated, v.6.3.1-0003, A14
and how to find software to update the drivers:
4.05.01.64 driver version
6.1.7601.17577 Storport driver version
?
The Dell supports any automatic tool to collect and install the drivers and firmware required on a single server of Windows (except ITA)?
Server is very critical, thanks,

Yes, it's safe.  It can be run from within the OS, or you can start on SBUU and serve Suu repository for update packages.

In most cases, it is easier to update of Windows, but it is not necessary.

  1. Windows updates
  2. BIOS,
  3. Environmentally sound management software (Yes, must be updated to BIOS).
  4. Bottom of basket SAS firmware (also needed),
  5. Controller driver (did you mean driver here? pilot, when it is available, it should be updated before... If current firmware to run 2008R2, new drivers are available through Microsoft Update - if available)
  6. The controller firmware
  7. The hard drive firmware
  8. NIC, DRAC, etc..

When / if get the support.dell.com site update files, use Packages to update for the format of Microsoft Windows.

  • Question about updating the BIOS and drivers

    Hello

First time user. How will I know if I need to update bios and drivers? I don't want to go crashing my system, just because Toshiba say these items are available for my laptop! They were probably in the updates of windows?

    Help, please.

    Hi Andy

    Welcome to our small community
First a little advice you should always write the name of your laptop.

OK now, to you in general I have a question would not recommend to update anything if you laptop and operating system is stable and you don t have problems.
Of course the update of the driver is not risky, but I would only run updates some compatibility problems with 3rd party software or hardware appears.

The update of the BIOS is risky. Wrong or bad BIOS update procedure could damage the ROM module on the map. So be careful.

'Smart TV' is a term used to describe TVs that incorporate Internet marketing functions.  You can connect your 'smart TV' to your network home directly, without the need for an intermediate device.

If you have already a device such as a Blu - Ray, Roku player, game console, etc., that can connect to the Internet and then to your TV (to provide access to services such as Netflix and other streaming media sites), then you don't need a smart TV - although from what I can tell, 'resourcefulness' will appear on the models more not just high-end models.

  • Update of firmware and driver PERC H700

I hope an easy answer, but I have a firmware and driver update for my PERC H700 and ask yourself which must be installed first? Is it still important?

    Hello Blake

You probably won't have issues updated in any order, but recommended when performing updates is to start furthest from the system BIOS and work your way back. This means that you would update the driver first.

Behind put reason in this way is that if you update something like the BIOS OF THE system firstly something that takes over after the system BIOS is incompatible older revision you backflash THE system BIOS in order to enter the other device/OS to be able to update it. If you update in the correct order you should still be able to perform updates obsolete unit to bring it to a compatible revision.

    Thank you

  • QLogic NIC firmware and drivers on 11G servers

    Hi all

Can someone explain why the new QLogic NIC firmware (formerly Broadcom) and the pilot are not shown on the pages of download for 11 G- servers?

We have a bunch of R710 servers (Windows Server 2012 R2) with NIC BCM5709C NetXtreme II which, according to the release notes are compatible with these new updates.

If you go to the download page for R710, these files are not, (only older files of Broadcom).

Instead, I run the last SUU (15.04.200.109) on a R710, the pilot and the new fw QLogic are listed as extensible.

A strange thing here is that the version of fw-package in the SUU is 7.12.15.
(I can't remember having seen the version of the Driver and download pages).

"QLogic BCM57xx and BCM57xxx Network Device Firmware 7.12" version which is downloadable for example R720 is 7.12.17.

Verifying compliance on R710 to OME with the latest version of the catalog, no new QLogic driver or firmware appears.

I have applied these new QLogic on a R710 updates in our lab and installed both without problem and seem to work well.

I am bit confused now and would like to know if Dell supports the driver and QLogic fw on R710 with NIC BCM5709C NetXtreme II

    Larnil,

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. According to me, that it was simply an oversight due to the change of name, following the acquisition of Broadcom by Qlogic. We will look on getting the page corrected to reflect the most recent update.

    Thank you once again.

  • Dell XPS 15 SSD NVMe slow after updating the firmware July 2016 and papillonné CPU (Core i7)

Edit: 9/2: title change intended to reflect issues of CPU throttling and discussion (second half of the thread)

I noticed a huge performance drag after updating the firmware and drivers of my XPS 15 9550. The update took place August 4, 2016.

Performance of my usual applications (Chrome, development tools and IDE, etc.) is dramatically lower. In general, I would say that things take about 3 times as long to arrive. I checked the CPU (normal), but also memory consumption (as normal) to discover that the problem is with the SSD drive.

On this laptop: 500 GB NVMe thnsn5512gpu7 NV (toshiba). Attached are the results of a benchmark with AS SSD. All write speeds are appalling, to say the least... that explains a lot, but I have no idea how to solve this problem, and whether or not it really relates to the latest firmware + update drivers provided by Dell.

(Note: I checked the BIOS, it seems that the SSD is currently configured in RAID mode.) Never touched this option before.)

Any idea? Other affected users in a similar way. Thanks in advance.

I managed to get the performance back by going to the properties of the disc and turn off windows write cache flushing heat. The two boxes should be checked. Write speed then went to about 1400 MB/s.

  • EliteBook 725 G3: Failed to update the Firmware USB controller of Type C

My laptop is one of the first to come out of the Assembly line and came with firmware 1.02.

1.08 BIOS that is out there, so I tried to update Windows 7.  It took time, but it's over and the tool said to restart.  That's all he said I remember.

Upon restart, it started giving beep codes.  I don't remember who it was, but it was something like 1 long 2 short or long 2 2 - short.  He kept with him for awhile and I got sick of him, so I pushed on and held the power button for the kill and then restarted.

This time, he got in the BIOS, who says she has been updated controller firmware USB Type C of v12 v13.  This FAILURE and gave me the option "restart and try again."  I took that, but he was never retried.

I felt comfortable with that, so I flashed the BIOS 1.08 again, this time in the BIOS using a Flash DRIVE (\Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\New\N73_0108.bin).  He went through much faster than on Windows, and in the end, he actually warned me that the machine may beep for awhile after restarting.  Uh, thanks for the warning, now it's too late.  Why doesn't Windows Update program gave me the same caveat useful?

In any case, the SystemRoot machine, but he did nothing to try to update the firmware of the controller USB Type-C.  I'm guessing that he defined an indicator saying somewhere that we are already at 1.08, so there is nothing new to do.

When the BIOS Setup is emptied using BiosConfigUtility.exe, it shows the USB Type-C controller firmware to be even 00.12.

So, how to update at 00.13?

I have updated the firmware and my printer drivers for the last realease (17/10/2012) on my P1102 printer. The printer now turns off completely after 4 hours. I changed the setting in the driver to "never turn off" but it makes no difference. It's a big problem that I use the PC connected to the printer via remote access and so I can print is no longer when I want to. How I either restore the firmware or stop the printer turn off please? Since the firmware update, I noticed also that when the printer goes to sleep the green light will blink each opten both before the firware update lights exploded when the printer has gone to bed. • Is running on the host Windows 7 64-bit SP1, the printer on a wired network with static IP 192.168.1.200
(also tried on a laptop VISTA business SP2 32-bit)

    Thanks for any help!

    Hi Jack,

Try to connect the printer to your computer via a direct USB connection, and then try to update the firmware and the check for the difference.

If the problem persists, try the steps in the post below, the same should apply for the 6500 has as following:

  • Download software and drivers

Just bought HP Probook 4530 s. You want to ensure that I have the latest updates of software and drivers. When I go on the product specific download page, a dozen appeared in a number of different categories. Do all these need to be downloaded?

Also, some so I fell on a page which is registered in a different way and specific product downloads. Each download includes a brief description and was also marked as "critical" etc. "recommended". I downloaded a 'critical' download, but after downloading and a reboot of the pc, I lost the page and don't remember how to get it back. Is anyone familiar with this page?

Had a HP for 8 years before this Probook. I'm already cursing myself for reduced another HP. still confused, never simple, never easy to use. Must be another way to know if of my Probook software and drivers are up to date. Something simple for Dummies like me. May be too much trouble to HP.

    Hello

I think you should look for the HP software on your computer and it downloads only missing components.

    Kind regards
