Update of Windows, external hard drive + sound problems

I have a laptop Dell Inspiron 1720 with Windows Vista installed. I recently bought a Western Digital 1 TB external hard drive, which I forgot to unplug a couple times when I turned off the computer... Windows normally the thing 'install updates & stop', and I'm sure that he accidentally put the files to one of these updates on my hard drive, because a little bit ago, I noticedthis new file . He also said that the hard drive is used whenever I'm trying to remove it safely, even if I did open / running. I wonder if there is a way to solve this problem...? Is it safe to just delete the files from my external hard drive?

In addition, around the same time, through the speakers of my laptop stopped working. He still works perfectly with headphones plugged in however. In playback devices, speakers/headphones (SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC) is active and supposed to be 'working '. When I check with Device Manager, it says that the software is up-to-date and fully functional. I wonder if this could possibly be linked to a bad Windows update... and also how to fix it.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I open windows Documents, I want access to my hard drive, and first of all, she has another name, not the one I gave to her when I formatted, it (like two weeks there are other problems, but that's another story) and when I click on it an error message appears saying that my local drive has been damaged and cannot be opened and is necessary for formatting.

I tried to unplug it after the shutdown of the PC (when the PC is on I can't unplug it because that always seem to be used, even if everything is closed) because I thought that during the start-up in somewhere so it might be confused with a drive of the computer, for three days, he stopped to do today after I plugged it again.

I unplugged and plugged a different device, you see correctly, so I unplugged and re-connected to my PC, now we see normally.

I'm ok with this, but I am aware that it is not normal behavior, what should I do?

    Thank you

Since the watch test failed, the hard drive must be replaced. If it is under warranty, you can take it to the Toshiba service center to get it replaced. Another thing, the new hard drive is the recommended option.

Before in both cases, make sure that you back up all of your important and personal data from the hard drive.

  • USB external hard drive recognition problem

I recently copied a large number of music files FLAC from a NAS drive to an external hard drive. When I plug the hard drive into the USB port on my computer, it is not recognized or appear in the screen 'computer '. Instead, I have an icon in taskbar icon (bottom right of the screen) and when I fly over it says "safely remove hardware and eject the media.

Please, what this mean and is there a problem with my external hard drive

    Thank you very much

    John

Start the disk with the connected player manager.

In the lower panel, check disks and look at the left panel. It must indicate the status of the disc attached. If shown as a foreigner do a right click and "import foreign disks".

This does not affect the data on the disk and not the alternative option of having to write a signature to the disk. You may also define a drive letter in the right side, until a drive has a letter, you can't see its contents.

  • Since the update of Vista on my external hard drive problems

I have a problem with my external hard drive. A week ago I reinstalled Windows Vista Home Premium on my PC. Everything worked very well, my external hard drive, too. But after installing all the new updates and SP2 my external hard drive has problems. If I copy something from her, or just listen to the music is recorded on it, so overall if I work with her, after 1 to 3 minutes it stops working. I have to sign in to get access to it again. But before installing SP2 updates after SP2 everything worked out very well. So I think that there is a problem with SP2 or the following updates. My Pc is a Dell Dimension 9200 and the external hard drive is a Verbatim 1 TB external hard drive and USB 2.0

I tried to bbot with Ubuntu and delete the Autorun.inf. Now everything works fine again.
    Thank you

  • External hard drive is not recognized after Windows Update

Original title: XP Pro wants to install driver for external hard drive that is Plug-and-Play

I think that using Windows Update can cause problems (unintentinally or not) for users of Windows XP.

In a series of accidents with an old computer and reinstall the XP Pro operating system, I discovered that MS Money installing only if it was made before the Windows updates.  (planned obsolescense?) The issue has to do with the removal of the registry AUTORUN file. INF for some new and improved files through Windows Update.  Before the updates, the file exists, and I could install MS money.  After updates, AUTORUN. Missing INF file of the registry.

Now, I encountered a new problem, and I think that it is also a result of Windows Update.  My external hard drive to IDE, that worked perfectly before on this computer (newer), is no longer recognized and want to reinstall the driver.

The problem is that it is a Plug-and-Play device, and no driver was needed before updates.  I read somewhere in my many attempts to find a solution that the MS Plug and Play system was replaced by a universal version of this feature (UPNP?)

It's on a more recent, computer replacement, which came not with a copy of the Windows XP Pro operating system, and I can't just reformat the hard drive and start all over again.

Someone else has encountered this, and if so, have you found a solution?

    Double Post suite-

Where is my external hard drive?

I'm under XP Pro on a Dell Optiplex PC with all the current Windows updates (SP3. Net4, etc..) and last month, I added a USB IDE hard drive. the hard disk enclosure is MASSCOOL, and I used a 250 GB Seagate Barracuda7800. The car worked perfectly until this week. I had the Windows Update critical update automaticlly value and security updates.

The hard drive has disappeared from "my computer." I tried to plug and unplug in different USB ports, restarted the computer, but continues to receive the "new hardware detected by saying me that new hardware has been detected and that I need to install the necessary driver.

The problem is that Seagate does not provide any driver for this drive, because it is supposed to be (and was so far) recognized by the Plug-and-Play of Windows XP software. The hard drive enclosure came with a mini CD, but this contains software to use the unit as a back-up, not for storage.

I can't understand that this change suddenly to believe that something in the Windows updates that have been installed recently changed the command structure, registry files or the drivers themselves.

I know this is possible, because I've seen what's happened to any program that relied on self. INF file that was originally part of XP. This resulted in programs like Microsoft Money and older versions of MS Office, not being able to be installed by those of us who are not 'technically lit.

I'm here in left field, or other people have had similar problems? And is anyone know how to solve this dilemma?

  • Windows 7 does not recognize external hard drive after the reboot

I just bought a WD external hard drive.  I plugged in the USB port and automatically loaded everthing.  I even registered the product.  Then I was told that there was an update to the external hard drive.  I went ahead and put to day and when my computer restarted to him alone is no longer recognizes WD external hard drive.  I had another hard drive that I used where Windows 7 does not recognize it either?  Is it some sort of security setting, I need to adjust on Windows 7 64 bit?  Please notify.

Check if the hard drive is assigned to a drive letter in disk management.

Click Start, right click on computer

    Click on management of

    Expand disk management

Select your external hard drive if its posted here

Make a right click paths and change drive letter

Restart your computer, open the computer in the start menu and see if it shows then.

  • How can I recover iTunes library on an external hard drive

Stupidly I deleted my iTunes library earlier today and fight to get it back. (All purchased songs always appear but all songs imported from CDs are gone). I deleted the library and then empty the trash. I have a update on my external hard drive last night so hope I can restore my library iTunes from my external hard drive, but can't get it. Have tried, as a result of aid, online articles, but I do not get any further...

So far, I saved my iTunes backup folder on my desktop iMac. There was a suggestion to open iTunes, while holding down the SHIFT key (keyboard of Windows) and this should allow me to create a new library or open an existing one - none of these options appeared, my result was iTunes open normally and showing all my purchased songs. The other suggestion is to open iTunes - file - Library - Library to import the backup file, but also no results.

It seems it should be easy but... not for me to do something. Can anyone offer advice that does not suggest that I have to re - import all the music?

    Thanks in advance

    Truck

The file that you must replace is located in the following location.

    / Users/USERNAME/music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Music

Just replace the one on your Mac with the library you want. Don't forget, it's only music, not any what other apps, videos etc., if you want to replace it, replace the entire iTunes Media.

  • How can I change lightroom 5 previews smart on the book of mac pro (mbp) when lightroom master image files 5 are on my external hard drive is disconnected from the mbp

How can I change lightroom 5 previews smart on the book of mac pro (mbp) when lightroom master image files 5 are on my external hard drive is disconnected from the mbp? So far when I try to disconnect the external hard drive the mbp, I get the pop following window: "external hard drive A" disc could not be ejected because it uses 'Lightroom '. Exit this application and try out this disc again. When I do that and restart Lightroom 5, Adobe Photoshop Lightroom - screen select catalog appears, but does not list my external hard drive A as a choice.

I've been reviewing Adobe's Lightroom Help | Smart web page Previews Lightroom 5 and still have not been able to understand what I am doing wrong. Any help would be appreciated.

    HI Thomas,

Thank you very much for your suggestions! They finally gave me the direction I go solve the problems I had. Basically, the Mac Book Pro based Lightroom irdata files still had thumbnails. Once I removed the and redirected Lightroom external hard disk, smart previews of the external drive work when the player is well off the MBP. Much obliged.

I was wondering if you have any suggestions on how to backup all the files content and related data of Lightroom that exists on the external hard drive to another external hard drive as a backup? Ideally, it would be great if I could be able to launch security HD since the Mac Book Pro and do the work of Lightroom with the backup image files and intelligent previews correctly. Thanks again. Your help has been invaluable.

  • External hard drive no use / formatting / causing a lot of problems on Windows 8

Hello, please someone help me! ??

I just got a new Samsung M3 2 TB external hard drive and I tried running it on my laptop (Windows 8).

I tried to partition it into two parts, but now everything goes terribly wrong.

When I connect it via USB, the computer makes a sound of ping and it seems that 2 drives in my computer. He asks automatically format it... and when I start the formatting process (which takes hours)... in the end it gives me an error report saying "format could not be completed successfully."

Whenever the HARD drive is connected I can not run the disk management tool, because it does not load. I even downloaded the partitioning of the internet tools, but when the HARD drive is connected those just freeze. When the HARD disk is not connected, disk management and all the partitioning tools work correctly.

It's as if the HARD drive takes over from the computer in a way since I can't even make a stop down with it connected. There is no way that I can remove it without risk either. Also sometimes it freezes my computer and the screen is blank. So I have to force my PC off.

It's really driving me crazy. Please can someone advise me on how to solve this problem.

I don't have access to the other PC to see if it works well on them. I really need to get to this sorting.

    Hello Dezrtroze,

Thanks for your reply, appreciate the time taken by us keep up to date on the State of the question.

    1. You are able to open the command prompt when the external HARD disk is connected?

Keep the external hard drive connected and put the computer to boot, check if it makes a difference.

Also, check if you are able to open command prompt when the device is connected, if so, to run the check suggested such disk in method 3 above.

On addition to that, you can also run /Scan research on CFS to check any file system corruption and repair it if found any.

The command sfc/scannow (System File Checker) analyses all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with appropriate Microsoft versions.

Use the System File Checker tool to troubleshoot missing or corrupted system files.

  • How can I prevent Windows Update to write data to my external HARD drive

I have Windows XP running on a controller NI PXI-8106. On this same controller, I have two mapped drives.
1 C drive where Windows is installed
2-external SATA drive mounted in RAID0 used to save sensitive data in our application.

We discovered that Windows update has written files to disk external DRIVE instead of the local drive as we would expected. What could I do to prevent this. It is very important for us, given that the RAID0 data should not be upset by any means. We cannot update Windows to write outside of the C: drive.

I look on various forums and it seems that I'm not the only one in this situation where Windows Update writes data to an external HARD drive, but I have not seen anywhere a solution to avoid this, in addition to unmaping the drive.

During the installation of updates, Windows Update downloads the installers (only) for updates to the drive with free space available. You can either disconnect the external drive when you need and/or free up space on, for example, your boot drive.
