Update Windows Defender (KB915597) and AOL9.0VR
Hello
Running Vista Home Basic. Installed Windows Defender Update definition (KB915597) (1.69.301.0) yesterday. Rebooted and tried to launch AOL9.0VR. Got the message of connection failure. Tried running IE8 and the respect, but has been very unstable - abandon or still holding to find the website.
Stop PC and and came back later. Booted up and tried again. This failure of AOL of time as before but also absolutely nothing with IE8. All access to the internet have completely lost!
Distrusted update as long as everything works well before installation. Performed a system restore for update status. PC rebooted and all was back to normal.
Anyone know if this incompatibility is a known issue for the update KB915597 and AOL software?
That would welcome suggestions.
At the moment I'm ignoring the prompt update for this element of Defender until further notice.
Thank you
Hello
Just to update all.
Bit the bullet today and installed the update to Windows Defender KB915597, which seem to be causing my problems last week.
Earlier today installed and rebooted and everything seems to be OK - AOL and IE8 both works very well.
I suspect now the AOL or British Telecom (broadband at my home network provider) may have been playing with their settings.
Have you contacted AOL, but still there has been no response
Hopefully everything is now stable.
See you soon

Update Windows Defender KB915597 automatic update and other sources.
It seems that, after each automatic update of Windows Defender on my computer at home another updated appears another update showing about 3 days more later from "another source." It should be? The two definition links are link ID = 52661. All definitions are different and my computer has been updated July 28,2010-July 30, 2010. It has been also updated for the same KB915597 on May 27, 2010 and may 31, 2010. I do not understand why the KB is downloaded several times automatically and also "other source".
TIP: Give your full version of Windows (for example, WinXP SP3;) Windows XP 64 - bit SP2; Vista SP1; Vista 64 - bit SP2; Win7; Win7 64 bit) when you post in a forum or a newsgroup.
Left to itself, Windows Defender will be auto-updated itself twice a week (usually the Monday/Tuesday and Friday/Saturday). These updates are updates "Other Source" you will find listed in the update history.
With Microsoft Update [1] as source of update by default, you will be offered that Defender updates when you run a manual check for updates. Here are the optional updates: If you choose to not install one, Defender will always auto-updated itself by what precedes.

Since I installed the updated definition for windows defender-KB915597(Definition 1.21.1279.0) 03/03/09, I was not able to install the new updates. I don't know why, but none of the updates I have been install, or at least try, are installation and saying "Success" next to them. I've used different methods to dispose of everything, if I have any, virus and still have not seen any progress. And unfortunately, I deleted all my restore points to keep the memory on my laptop. I have too many errors, report them all, but some of the things I did to check to ensure that I have no viruses do analyses of the complete system and remove a mysterious software they gave me an alert by (using McAfee Security). Any help will be considered. Help, please! :(
If you install the hidden recovery partition to do the cleaning, you will probably not the product key. Otherwise, use one on the sticker attached to the computer. ~ Robear Dyer (PA Bear) ~ MS MVP (that is to say, mail, security, Windows & Update Services) since 2002 ~ WARNING: MS MVPs represent or work for Microsoft

Hello!
I've always used Windows updates to warn me of updates and then I install them. Normally Windows Defender is updated daily through windows updates.
For some reason, he is not showing / offering of windows defender updates.
Time windows last defender of the shows has been update on my pc was 11/2.
I know updates have been released since then for Defender, but I can't get them.
Even if it does not automatically show me, I say manually updates to check updates and which shows nothing for windows defender.
So, I went to the windows defender program and used the update it. This shows also no update available.
Can someone please help to understand what is the problem?
Thank you so much!
I have windows vista sp1, 32-bit.

McAfee must have disabled Windows Defender during the installation of McAfee.
You must disable Windows Defender.

Update for Windows Defender KB915597 definition
I have a laptop HP Vista 32 bit and I noticed KB915597 to stay herself sleep although I have update set to inform me and have me install myself install. 02/05 to 05/14 years, I have nineteen 19 automatic updates installed. My question is why is happening also whenever they are installed my computer slows down considerably.
I already told you why you all these listed KB915597 updates: they are all updated to sequential definition for Windows Defender, but these updates have nothing to do with your computer "[slow]."
Your problem with one, two or three of the following:
1. "remnants" of your previous install of Norton Internet Security and McAfee Security Center (the previous freebie from Comcast);
2. your Trend Micro subscription (or trial) have expired before installing Norton Internet Security; or...
3. a hijackware infection.
-Online NOTE: If the freebie from Comcast Norton Security Suite (which is only "powered by Norton 360 technologies" but not a free version of Norton 360) were installed & working properly, Windows Defender would be disabled and not up to date itself!
To solve the #1 (only), contact Norton/Comcast support via chat (http://www.norton.com/comcast_chat) or by "call 1-877-272-7149 to speak with a technician from Norton live."
To solve the #2, #3 or #1 and #2 and #3:
Personal data backup (which none should be considered 100% reliable at this point) then format the HARD disk and do a clean install of Windows. Please note that a repair installation (upgrade AKA on-site) will NOT fix it!
HOW to do a clean install of Vista: section "If you want to reinstall Windows Vista by running a new installation...". "of http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/Installing-and-reinstalling-Windows-Vista
Once installed the clean, you will have the equivalent of a "new computer" in order to take care of everything on the next page before connecting the machine to the internet or one local network (i.e. other computers) otherwise and before using a flash drive or the SD card that is not brand new, or has not been freshly formatted:

http://www.Microsoft.com/security/pypc.aspxTip: After getting the computer fully patched, download/install KB971029 manually: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971029
NB: No matter what Norton or McAfee free trial which is preinstalled on the computer when you bought will be reinstalled (but invalid) when Windows is reinstalled. You MUST uninstall the trial for free and download/run the appropriate removal tool before installing updates, Service Packs, Windows or the IE upgrades and before installing your new anti-virus application.

If these procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, good reputation and stand-alone computer (that is, not BigBoxStoreUSA or Geek Squad) repair facility.

query on windows update for windows defender KB915597. Error code 800705 b 4.
Hello. I was wondering if the update above can be installed for windows vista. I get error 800705 b 4 whenever I try to update KB915597 (definition 1.173.1690.0 windows Defender
Thanks for all the advice with this problem
Best regards, Maria.
The update that you are trying to install is obsolete.
To update manually: http://www.microsoft.com/security/portal/definitions/adl.aspx
If you need to get the latest updates available, you can download and install from here.
For all Microsoft security software, you will need to download the anti-malware and anti-spyware updates.
For anti-malware and anti-spyware, the latest definitions are 1.173.1907.0, date of the May 12, 2014 06:43 UTC.

Impossible to find info on what this means or what to do so I can again update in Windows Defender. This error message has begun to appear recently, or at least I think. I thought it was set to automatic update, but when I tried to do it manually because it says it's expired. Tried several times but get the same message every time.
You are welcome. Your computer must NOT be connected to the internet or networks without a fully functional antivirus, completely update installed application. But first, let's take care of any Norton "leftovers"...
1. download the Norton Removal Tool, save it to your desktop: ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe
2. close all open applications (that is, anything with an icon on the taskbar).
3. click right on the file saved in #1 above, and then select run as administrator to run the utility. DO TAP not your keyboard until the race ends, then restart.
Now, you will need to download/install an antivirus application. While I do not recommend professionally AVG, you might find that AVG Free 9.0 more compatible if you choose a CUSTOM this time installation above and don't install NOT of Linkscanner Search-Shield, Active Surf-Shield, security or the email of crawl components toolbar.
Why you don't need your anti-virus to scan your email
http://thundercloud.NET/infoave/tutorials/email-scanning/index.htmOtherwise, I can recommend Microsoft Security Essentials*, Avira AntiVirand Avast (all free) and NOD32 and Kaspersky (not the suites 'internet security'). After you have installed your AV application selected, manually & repeatedly updated until you get one invites 'no more updates'.
[Avoid Norton & McAfee IMHO applications.]

I can't update "windows" or "windows defender". Followed the steps described by Microsoft help, tried to download manually, have asked Microsoft to help (no response yet) these first two things didn't work. I even had something like; change setting.that message security came for "Windows update", I have change the security setting, did not just well, still nothing.
Windows Defender gives me an error code that looks like this;
Error Code 0 x 80070005
That's all I can get, and it will not update.
and on top of it, I've lost my "Microsoft Help and support (it) when I click Start and click Help and support, I get a (?) all help options or when I click on it nothing there is totally 'empty '.
I have one more problem.
I tried to defrag my computer, and I can't do it either. I get a grey screen and if I click on anylise or defragment, it does nothing, no error message or anything else. Tried to manually defragment Traore does not work, tried to load a defrag on the web program, wouldn't let me load it.
Nobody knows what happens here? why I'm having these problems all of a sudden? I do nothing but send E-mails and read my emails and I do not browse the internet or enter sites that are safer. So, what can I do? How to make everything return to normal? can someone help me with this?
Also let me tell you right now, I'm not an expert on how to do things on the computer, so I'm scitish when it receives or sounds complicated. I don't want to lose my entire system because of these unfortenate none of the work programmes.Hello shessy49, welcome.
I would recommend that we run a SFC (System File Checker) first scan to see what he finds. Try this:
1. click on START
2 type "msconfig" (without the quotes) and press enter
3. go to the "Startup" tab and uncheck all the entries displayed
4. click on 'Apply' at the bottom right
5 restart your computer---
After the reboot
---1. click on START
2. Type "cmd" (without the quotes). Right-click on the result at the top of the menu START and select 'run as administrator '.
3. type "sfc/scannow" (without the quotes) and press enterIf the question started very recently, you can try a system restore:
1. click on START
2. click on "all programs".
3. click on "Accessories".
4. click on "system tools."
5. click on "system restore."6 follow the prompts shown to restore your system to a date before the problem started. Although the system restore does not target the personal data, it is recommended that you back up all data such as music, photos and documents in case something is not bad.

Hello.
The problem I've been is that I lose my network connection to my wireless network when windows downloads and installs the latest update of Windows Defender (definition 1.55.1119.0).
It can detect the network and others nearby, but cannot and does not connect to my network.
The only way I can solve the problem is to do a system restore to an hour before the update was installed and disable automatic updates.I have a HP Pavilion dv9000 running Windows Vista Home Premium.
Thanks for any help.
HELLO MICK. J
Did you check the setting on you, defender of the window or the firewall settings? These things will be pervent you to connect some time. I suggest that you try disabling Windows Defender and try to connect to the internet. Useful to try link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918355
