Upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 for free. Format a hard drive with Windows 10. Same upgrade again.

I have laptop which has been also upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10. But it works very well. But on PC I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 free without entering a product key. So at the beginning I had same problem as in this case:

http://answers.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/Forum/windows_8-update/blackgrey-screen-after-update-and-restart/a3b479de-b565-48D9-8640-73ba8dcdc5d8
Which I was not able to solve. A kind of workaround was to create another user. But with that I lost all settings. So I restored Windows 10 in original condition and everything was fine. Until this happens:
http://answers.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/Forum/Windows_7-security/cant-access-change-user-account-control-settings/da8c63a9-F995-4e8b-88d8-34c4d813084e

I tried all the answers, that is to create another user, or use points of restoration, or boot. There is nothing to solve this problem. Then at first, I tried to apply USB recovery but after all treatment, there was an error and the only option to restart. Second, I tried to restore the system, which also failed. I'm done with formatting hard drive and use the Windows 7 DVD. I skipped looking for updates and you don't have invitation to upgrade in the taskbar. That said, when I tried to upgrade to Windows 10 with GetWindows10 - Web_Default_Attr.exe app after about 1-2 hout of certain operations it asks me to enter the product key and there is no option to skip this step.

Is it possible to upgrade once more at all? Do I need to install all updates for Windows 7 first? Or GetWindows10 - Web_Default_Attr.exe app is not a good way for me to upgrade?

You cannot format the drive Windows is installed on to in
Windows. It's like sawing the branch of a tree, you are sitting
    on.

What is your purpose here? You want to reinstall Windows properly?

If so, just boot from the Windows CD (any version) and follow the
guests for a clean install; the installation will begin by
    formatting the drive.

  • Had to format my hard drive and need SP3 for WIndows XP

I can't get a new computer just now.  I had to format my hard drive.  Now, I can't get SP3.  However, SP3 was downloaded for Word 2002.  Any suggestions?

    Thank you, JAC

Different Service Packs for different products: Microsoft Windows XP and Microsoft Office Word XP (2002).

Showing you not only where to download them from, but how to find things.

In this case, using an Internet (Google) search engine to search for:

Service Pack 3 for "Windows XP".

And (if this link is clicked on it to see the results) you can see what has been found.

It would have resulted in the first link...
How to obtain the latest Windows XP service pack

    However, the second link:
Windows XP Service Pack 3 network installation Package for IT professionals and developers

... is everything (a single downloadable file can be installed to).

Download that direct link: Windows XP SP3

Once you have downloaded and the system in question, double-click it to run it, and you go.  There are 90 + updates * after * SP3.  ;-)

  • Windows could not get a list of devices from Windows Update. Try again later

Original title: Windows 7 list printers cannot be updated
I installed a windows 32 bit 7 OS several weeks ago on my workstation Futitsu-Siemens and followed the instructions on the HP Wizard to try to install the HP Deskjet 990c printer driver for my HP 6122 printer. According to the HP Wizard, the only way to do is to update the list of printers by clicking on the "Windows Update" button in the dialog "add a printer".  I clicked on this button several dozen times in recent weeks, and every time I get the message "Windows could not get a list of devices from Windows Update. Try again later.

I installed a windows 32 bit 7 BONES of several months on my HP laptop and the printer list updated without a hitch to include many more HP printers that are on my computer Futitsu-Siemens including HP 990c.

    What should I do?

Here's what I found my system which is an Z210 64 HP running windows7. I just updated my Bios to v1.35

What I did to get the update to work once and what I have to do each time to add another printer by using the Update window.

    1. open (Ctrl-Alt-Del) Task Manager

    2. click on tab of abuse, then Services button (bottom-right)

    3. under the name to find "Windows Update".

    4. right click "Windows Update" and select stop. do not close

    5. open the Exploper window and browse to C:\Windows

    6 delete the folder "C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution".

    7. go back to served, right click on "Windows Update", and then select start

Now the "Windows Update" button should work. For me I have to do every time I have to install a printer that requires me to use windows update

Probably, you need to boot in the BIOS of the computer and changed on the hard drive in IDE mode, SATA, so it can be recognized by Windows XP.

Before that you plan to replace Windows 7 with Windows XP. Have you tried to familiarize yourself with the operating system first?

    Gaara_2k6,
Welcome to the responses of the Forums.  The short answer to your questions are Yes and no and no.

Depends on how you format the drive, it will delete everything on the drive.  Now, it may still be recoverable with a software specialist or moving to a data recovery company.

If you formatted your hard drive you would not be able to start to do anything, because there would be nothing on the startup disk.  With the Windows XP CD or with the recovery media provided by the manufacturer of the PC is the only way to reinstall Windows. I need to format the hard drive but don't have the windows vista disc to reinstall, but have had the key code that vista was preinstalled do I have to buy a new drive for vista

    Hello

    How to reinstall Vista

Contact the manufacturer of the laptop computer and ask them to send you to vista recovery disks to reinstall the operating system back as it was when you bought it

they do it for a nominal cost of $

also ask them if you have a recovery partition on your hard drive to get back to the way you bought

you would normally press F8, F9, F10 or F11 or Alt + F10 or 0 to start to start the recovery process according to the manufacturer

Ask them of the exact key sequence

or borrow a vista microsoft dvd; not a HP, Acer recovery disk etc

Make sure that you borrow the correct 32-bit or 64-bit microsoft dvd to your computer

they contain all versions of vista

This is the product key that determines which version of vista is installed

  • Using an external hard drive with Windows 7

I soon moved to the States but won't my Pc for a while once there. I intend to take an external hard drive with me to use with your laptop, once arrived in the States. As the laptop will probably have Windows 7 preinstalled, I'll be able to use the data on my drive that came from a Windows XP Pro operating system. Data such as Word, doc, Excel, doc, internet web pages. I do not know the media items will be ok, but not sure about programs etc.

Yes (assuming that the laptop has the necessary applications installed, such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and everything you use for your media files or applications).

  • Used the Windows XP drive to format the hard drive

I used my XP to my Dell PC drive to format the hard drive on a used Dell laptop that I bought recently. It automatically re-installed Windows XP from the disk on the laptop, which works fine, but I can't get the laptop to find or recognize the modem to the laptop, so I can't get a wi - fi connection or use my wireless router.  Any ideas?   Thank you

You must install drivers for NICs for wireline and wireless to the computer. If you do not have an installation disc driver Dell, go to the Dell website and download Winodws XP drivers for your computer model. You can do this on another computer and transfer them to your computer using a USB stick, external drive, etc. Boulder computer Maven

You have a hard drive partition to do - but you would need to contact/see the FAQ from the hardware manufacturer (HP, Dell, Gateway, Lenovo, etc) to see if and how.

Otherwise - you might have to order (pay for possibly) the factory restore/recovery of the value of the manufacturer.
