Upgrade HDD in Satellite L20-183

Can I replace the real 60 GB HARD drive with a 250 HARD drive (WD Scorpio 250 GB ATA/100 5400, 8 MB WD2500BEVE) without any other upgrade?

BIOS V1.2

Hello

Thanks for this I n t think that it will be possible.
AFAIK the L20 supports an IDE interface and standard ATA-5 supports only the LBA 28 bits, which means that more than 120 GB hard drives will not be recognized!

So, I wouldn't recommend taking a 250 GB HARD drive due to compatibility issues

I have the Toshiba Satellite L20-183 PSL2XE - 011018G (3), with 2 GB of ram, and I'm interested to upgrade the HARD drive to * Transcend 32 GB 2.5 "IDE PATA internal SSD Solid State Disk MLC Flash model TS32GPSD330 * (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA1K61312389).

Unfortunately, I can't confirm the SSD compatibility but if this old Satellite phone has HDD with IDE interface I sure you can use this SSD for upgrade of m.

Please post comments. This info can be useful for other users of L20.

  • Can I use SATA HDD on Satellite L20-183?

I have a satellite L20-183 with a P - ATA hard drive connector. Is it possible to change the connector to a SATA hard? Where can I find such a connector for my model?

    Thank you.

When you open the cover of the HARD drive, you will see there is not a lot of room inside and behind the HARD drive, there is a single cm only. You need this place for HDD disconnect with this adapter so I think there is no way to put the HARD drive inside or out of the place.

In any case, I'm 100% sure that these updates is not possible.

  • Satellite L20-183 - HARD drive upgrade

    Hello!

I have a Toshiba laptop Satellite L20-183. I would like to change the hard drive TOSHIBA MK6032GSX to a larger and more rapid as: WD 320 GB 7200 RPM 16 Mb SATA2 Notebook WD3200BEKT.
It will be compatible or should I buy SATA 1 HDD 5400 RPM?

    Hello

Satellite L20 works with disk HARD SATA 1 and maximum capacity, with which it was delivered was 100 GB but I think 320 should not be problematic.
RPM MAX was 5400 then I think you should buy the HARD disk with the same number of TURNS.

  • HDD Satellite L20-183

Hello, I encountered the following problem: I recently bought
a new laptop (Satellite L20-183, the disk HARD MK6026GAX is) and after I
turned on for the first time the capacity of the HARD disk on windows
a: 60, 003,..,... bytes. According to the specifications of the hard disk, it should have
was 60,011,610,210 bytes. So I used the revovery cd so much and now
Windows reports 60,011,610,210 bytes. My question is what can be
because of this difference? The weather? During this period of the year here
Romania are-20 /-25 degrees celsius. Thank you for your response.

    Hello

I put t know where you have the information on the capacity of the HARD disk but this unit came with a 60 GB.
It is about value. But each HARD drive a few differences.
If you want to know the exact value, you must calculate with 1024.

    60 GB = 61 440 MB
    61440 MB = 62 914 560 KB
    62 914 560 KB = 64 bytes 424 509 440

Believe me your drive is ok.

  • Satellite L20-183 broken BIOS - Linux

I have a problem with may Satellite L20-183. When I try to install the operating system Linux (Mandriva Linux 2006 official) after checking the HDD, cd... I see a broken 'BIOS' massage and only what I can do is to restart the computer.
Why is this happening and what can I do to solve this problem.

    Hello

I'm don't know if you know, but Toshiba doesn't support the Linux operating system.
In this case there is no information on these issues of Linux on Toshiba laptops.
I have a tip for you. Why not install windows on your device and use a Knoppix Linux? You n t need to install Linux on the HARD drive. It starts from the live DVD and you can work with Linux as with Suse Linux.

  • Satellite L20-183: PCMCIA Pixelview Tuner does not work with 720 * 480

    I have the following problem:
I am the owner of a

Toshiba laptop Satellite L20-183 (1.6 Celeron, 512 MB Ram, Ati radeon Xpress Mobile X 200)

    I just bought a
Mobile TV Tuner PCMCIA (Prolink) Pixelview PlayTV havig the following specifications:
    http://www.ProLink.com.tw/English/products...ixelView%20Play TV%20Mobile.htm

as you can see it it says he works at the frame size PAL: 720 x 576; NTSC: 720 x 480

which is true, but not with my laptop
It is functional on a laptop HP Celeron 2.8 Mhz, 512 Ram and Ati 9100 IGP

on my laptop, it only works to the minimum framerate 320 * 288 (as I remember), but then the passage to the maximum framerate of 720 * 480 there are artifacts (horizontal lines) on the right size of the screen.

I say it again on a similar notebook (talk configuration) with ATI 9100 IGP it works perfectly at maximum framerate.

Someone told that can a card linked to overaly settings video problem, but it unlikely for me as long as lon semms as he worked on another laptop with ATI IGP 9100, which seems to be older than my video card. (By the way all the parameters and options are the same on two laptops)

    SOMEONE HELLLPPPPP!

    Hello
Check the BIOS on the toshiba. BIOS in the video settings, there should be a possibility to change the PAL or NTSC. If the value is NTSC I see problems that you described. So as if you right-click on the desktop and select Properties, click on the tab on the far right, a last and properties then go to advanced. Under these properties, it must have an option to NTSC or PAL. Make sure that PAL is thus selected here and see if that solves the problem. I hope this helps.

  • Can I use min - PCI Wi - Fi card on Satellite L20-183?

    Hello

I bought the laptop Satellite L20-183 six months ago. Since then, I've been using external PCMCIA Wi - Fi card. I'm a little tired to take care on a piece of plastic that comes out of the laptop. I read that it is possible to add a miniPCI WiFi card.

Should my computer a special model? Does anyone know where I could buy it or order? In addition, I would like to know if my phone is equipped with a Wi - Fi antenna connection?

    Hi Jakub

Unfortunately I have some bad news for you. Satellite L20 has no Wi - Fi antenna and it is not extensible with a mini-PCI card. :(

For two days the Toshiba * Satellite L20-183 original * battery does not charge.
The laptop * works on a/c * power, but its * battery is stuck * on 3%.

You have an idea, what could be the problem?
The laptop is almost three years, and the battery itself is rarely used (almost all the time),
I can't imagine it's already ready for graveyeard.

I run * BatteryMon test and these are the log information:

How old is your laptop and the battery?

The point is that, after a long period of use of each battery stops the functionality.

My battery in the laptop of 5 years is not working too.
I could replace it, but I use the old good classic as a desk for laptop and it s still connected to the power adapter so I put t need a new battery.

  • Is upgrade material on Satellite L655-183 possible?

    Hello

I want to know if I can plug a new processor, or may be a graphics card in my laptop Satellite L655-183.

    Thank you.

    Hello

In General, these updates is not supported - http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB9401AX0001R01.htm
On some models of CPU, upgrade is possible, but it can be quite risky.

Supported upgrade is RAM and HARD drive.

Problem is that laptops have a specific design and use some cooling system for this hardware platform. Hardware produce little heat and the material must be properly cooled. More powerful hardware will produce more heat and can result in property damage or overheating.

If you want to have more performance I recommend to increase the RAM to the maximum level and exchanging the HDD with SSD is much faster. Two upgrades are without any risk to your machine and you can do it alone.

I did it with my machine and I'm really happy now Mr. Windows (Win7) starts in 30 seconds.

  • Upgrading processor on Satellite L20-181

Can I insert in my laptop Toshiba Satellite L20-181 (Intel Celeron M 380 processor) Intel Pentium 4 processor 521 (for laptop)?

    Sorry, my English is weak.

    Hello

No, to my knowledge it of certainly not possible to upgrade the satellite L20 with a processor Intel P4 CPU.
As far as I know that the motherboard supports a mobile Intel socket 479 and it should be possible to use only the processors Celeron-M as follows:
    Intel Celeron M 350 (1.30 GHz) - 360 (1.40 GHz) - 370 (1.50 GHz) - 380 (1.60 GHz) with 400 Mhz FSB

In my opinion the stronger processors will cause overheating.

  • Upgrade memory of satellite L20-181

    Hey all

I want to upgrade memory on my Toshiba Satellite L20-181.
Now I have 256 MB and I want to add another stick of memory to 256 MB.
Could you please inform me about the type of memory has this laptop?
On the site it is said:
    Standard system memory: 256 MB
    maximum scalability: 2 048 MB
    technology: DDR2 RAM

    DDR2?
A link with such a memory would be very useful.
Also, anyway to buy memory online?

    Best regards

    Hello

The news that you are quite right. Toshiba has tested this laptop with the memory modules to follow:
    DDR2 400/533 256 MB (PA3389U - 1 M 25)
    512 MB DDR2-400/533 (PA3412U - 1 M 51)

As you can see it's memory module DDR2 and if you use the part (PA.) to the Google number, you will find many online offereor where you can order this tested memory. I recommend buying the original or perhaps module of Kingston. On this way, you will be sure that the new module will be recognized correctly.

    Good luck!

  • Upgrading RAM on satellite L20-217

    Hi guys,.

I have a satellite L20-217 and I'm looking to upgrade my ram 256 to 2 GB (or at least 1 GB). I did some research but I am still confused about this module (s) to buy and how to install it. I'm new on this and I will be very grateful if anyone can advise me on what to do, thank you.

PS: Is it possible to switch from a celeron M to a dual core processor?

    Hello

    Man of good news:

The L20 can be upgraded up to 2 GB!
    Please visit this page;
    http://www.orcalogic.co.UK/ASP/ProdType.asp?ProdType=31173&ft=m&St=3

    You simply DDR2 533 MHz (PC2-4200) 200 - PIN SODIMM bars!

Module slots are placed at the bottom of the unit.
There must be only one screw removed and you will see two slots!

The replacement is not very delicate and must be described in the manual very well!

With regard to the replacement of the CPU:

The replacement of the CPU is very delicate and particularly is not possible for different reasons!

  • Why Satellite L20-183 does not support Vista

I wonder, why didn't you support for L20 - 183 for vista because I own this model and inserted 2048 MB of ram and 100 GB HARD drive!

Simply it is not fair at all because I'm more powerful model now then L30.
Should I change my laptop for some other non-Toshiba one or buy a new one?

P.S. I'm not planing to play with my money...

    Hello
