Upgrade Ideapad Y560p/Y460 to Crucial RealSSD C300

Lenovo-wise knowledgeable salvation of people. As the title suggests, I am considering buying the new Ideapad Y560p / 460p (haven't decided where yet). I really want to upgrade the 5400 RPM for a Crucial RealSSD C300, but have little experience doing such things. Of course, since it is not offered as an option, I have to get one on my own and install it myself. Is it still possible? Would it void my warranty? Did anyone experience something like this? Also, how it would be difficult? Thanks, Paul

So far, he has been beyond epic. Windows 7 he player a score of 7.7. I disabled my Windows 7 boot animation, and start-up is now less than 3 seconds.

  • Compatibility of drive SSD IdeaPad Y560p mSATA

    Hello world

I could not find this question on this forum so I decided to ask here. I have a Y560p awhile now and I'm happy with it, except for the very slow HARD disk. So would buy mSATA SSD, this one to be exact:

    http://www.crucial.com/store/partspecs.aspx?IModule=CT256M4SSD3

So, my question is that going to work? Yes, I know it's SATA III and I know if it will work, it will work as a SATA II hard drive. I just need to know if the laptop can see larger sizes then 64 GB in this slot mSATA? I've seen posts where people say they have installed with success of 80 GB and 160 GB SATA II drives but not larger than that and SATA III... The post is quite old so I decided to open a new topic.

    Thanks in advance

    Welocome to the community!

If your mini-PCIe is electrically compatible with SATA in the first place, you'll be fine with the mSATA existing SSDs. I don't think I've seen something more than 256 GB, still. I have the Crucial even accurate in my X 220 and I am completely satisfied.

    Cheers.

    Welcome to the community.

    Sorry, you have problems.

From your post, 'BIOS IS LOCKED', it seems that there is a supervisor password set. There is no discount to zero/workaround for a lost password supervidsor.

The best advice is to talk with the person who gave you the laptop to try to obtain the password. In addition, the only authorized here discussion about the subject is contained in the manual of your equipment:
    http://download.Lenovo.com/userfiles/Userguide/en/user%27s%20guides%20and%20Manuals/Y560/Lenovo%20Id...
Please see the section on page 24 of the manual.

  • Satellite T135-SP2909C - HD to the SSD upgrade, is it possible?

    Hi guys.
    I own a Toshiba Satellite T135-SP2909C.
The hard drive is broken, so I think buy a SSD drive, but I wonder if it will work on my laptop.
How would I know if the SSD hard drive work with my laptop?

I'm thinking of buying this SSD drive.

If it is not possible to use SSDS with this laptop, think you on Seagate Momentus XT 500 GB?

I guess this drive work on my laptop, but still, I'm not 100% sure.

Does anyone have to upgrade this laptop to a disc SSD or Seagate Momentus XT?

    Concerning

I agree with Akuma. In General, upgrading should be possible, but due to compatibility issue no one can say with certainty if some SSD works properly or not.

I just hope that some other T135 owners will offer more specific information about these updates.

Talk with your dealer and ask if there is possibility to make SSDS if something is wrong.

Please post comments on the upgrade.

  • DWM. Tips of memory EXE, resulting in aero being disabled, when you use a window on a driving instructor by a secondary graphics card

(I was going to the origin of this post in response to this topic, but it seems to be dead and, possibly, a different question.)  ( This thread is probably the same problem and has some information, but is old and sidetracked.)

I used to run two s AMD Radeon 6970 in CrossfireX, 3 driving instructors from the main videocard, without any problem.  I decided to take two cards off CrossfireX and run them independently, with two monitors driven by the second video card.  Now, whenever a window on a monitor driven by the second video card does a lot of update - like scrolling a page of MS Answers in IE or FireFox - I see not the use of the memory of dwm.exe rocket up to approximately 2 GB (it takes about 3 seconds) before Windows turns off Aero and returns to the Windows 7 Basic color palette.  This does not repro on the instructor by the first video card (memory dwm.exe use remains stable, Aero is not disabled).  I've been hunting the internet for everything and time now looking for an answer, nothing has worked, but I found a lot of posts on the same problem.

Other information that might be useful, based on what I saw:

    • All my drivers are up to date
    • All BIOS are up-to-date
    • DWM.exe is the only process that stings
    • I can re-enable Aero by him switch back to an Aero theme, and the problem with reproducing again
    • Scrolling or watch that video in IE or FireFox YouTube reproduces the problem constantly, but I can repro by continually moving a FireFox window, so it seems linked purely how drawing is done, the speed and how permanently.  I have same repro when scrolling in this text of entry for this message box.
    • If I stop the scroll/movement/whatever before DWM. EXE hits 2 GB, the drops of memory use down to normal (around 90 MB).
    • I Live Mesh, but I killed it and the repros still problem.  I also tried to disable the Windows Live display driver, but it did not help.
    • I tried to delete the DirectX under HKLM\Software\Microsoft key, which did not help.
    • Nothing is written to the system event log when this happens

    To summarize:
DWM.exe uncontrolled spike memory when a large number of drawing happens on a monitor driven by a secondary graphics card, with resulting Aero is disabled.

    System Specs:
OS: Windows 7 SP1 Professional, completely up-to-date (clean install - not upgraded to Vista)
Processor: Intel core i7 2600 K 3.4 GHz (stock speed)
    Memory: 16 GB DDR3 1866 MHz
    Motherboard: Gigabyte P67a-ud7-b3
Video: 2 x AMD Radeon 6970 2 GB (only the repros when you don't the crossfirex) (both cards must be running at the speed 8 x PCI-E in this configuration on this mobo, have not verified)
Monitors: 3 x HP ZR24w @ 1920 x 1200 60 Hz color 32 bit depth (horizontal, Center monitor is primary & driven by the first video card, others by second video card)
    Hard drives: Crucial realSSD C300 256 GB, Western Digital WD5000AAKS SATA2 500 GB SATA3

    More information available on request.

If anyone knows a workaround for this problem solution please let me know.  I'll post any solution that I ended up going with.

    Thank you!

  • Building PC CS5 tips

    Hello

Currently, I plan a PC version to run CS5 mainly for the web and graphic design in Photoshop and Illustrator. I have all the production, and I am preparing to enter in the first and AE so I am all of that into consideration with my build. It is absolutely not a video editing build high-end.

So, here is what I have so far:

    I7 - 960

Cooler Master CM690 MKII advanced cases

    ASUS P6X58D-e: DDR3, USB 3.0, SATA 6.0 GB/s, 3 - Way SLI

500 GB WD Caviar Black WD5002AALX

    1 GB GeForce GTS450

    Corsair 750W PSU TX series

    Win 7 64 bit

I have a couple of hard drives, I'll probably add to the system

Any thoughts? My original plan was to a Phenom ii x 6 1090 t., but to read here, it seems, intel is the way to go. Too bad that I always had of the AMD, I really notice the difference? I am currently facing on an Athlon 64 2.0 Ghz

I don't really have a clue on graphics cards, up to now, I used very cheap budget cards. I've read on the Nvidia cuda stuff recently though, that's how I got to the GTS450.

    Any advice much appreciated.

Overall, it seems that the right components and the GTS 450 is a nice map too. Not excessive and the consequence TI that your power supply is OK too. You had opted for a more capable card like the 480/580, you might need to go to the version of 850W PSU.

  • New on PRE and need my version of system reviews

I have played around with the trial version on my old computer and decided to go there and buy PRE 9 and PES 9 together. I built some PCs in my day and just finished my current build runs my purchased software. I was hoping that I could get feedback on what I have and what I could change for best performance. PRE is very nervous when you scroll content back and reading the timeline. Sometimes I'm not even a transition. I'm new to video editing in general and capture in HD with my Canon HF S100, so I plan on editing HD as well. Sorry for the NoBo question, but my machine smoke until I have run BEFORE. I can use the incorrect application, but I'm assuming that my low end video card, is an area of concern/bottleneck. I don't want to blow $800 on a Quadro 4000, if it won't make a huge difference, but I guess it is. Thanks in advance for any help.

  • Advice on the construction of a $2,000

A big thanks to everyone on this forum.  I've been out of the video game for a few years now (PPro CS2 widely used in recent years), and now I'm looking to get back into it.  Capture of return updated on all this has been a process humbling!  Has spent the last two days reading the stickied posts of harm and society and appreciate all their information.

Basic use will be film documentary style backcountry trips in remote sites, usually through backpacking, and all shooting will be done with a GH2.  Editing will almost all AVCHD, with eventual distribution if all goes well for the web, film festivals and blueray.

So after some research, I'm confident enough in the construction of a workable CS5 $2000 first machine.  I am asked some tips to see if there are a few improvements that can be made.  Here it is-

Round - WIN maelstrom SECC(0.8~1.0mm) Black ATX Full Tower Computer Case - $99.99

    Processor - Intel Core i7 - 950 Bloomfield 3.06 GHz LGA 1366 130W - $294.99

Processor cooling - COOLER MASTER Intel Core i7 compatible Hyper N 520 RR-920-N520-GP 92 mm CPU cooler sleeve - $34.99

    Monitor - Asus VE248H black 24 "Full HD - $219.99

In total, sneaks into about $ 2,000 worth of costs from NewEgg.

Couple of immediate concerns I have:

    (1) G.Skill is a mark of good memory?  I tried to do some research and it seems that the more profitable.

    (2) sufficient size software SSD drive?  64 gb. should only run production suite CS5 and a few other small programs. I can spend at 128, but looking to reduce their costs, if any.

    (3) raid configuration - I know people from the Board of Directors to advocate a controller.  There is no budget for now however.  I would like to make a raid 0 onboard and have an additional backup, as a drive to export.  By reading the suggestions of evil on the storage, as is feasible - 1 SSD for the OS and software, 2 in raid0 config for the media, for raid 1 drive backup media and one for export to.  What is a reasonable strategy?

    (4) I know that the video monitor is not terrible, but it fits the budget.  Other recommendations in the same price range?

    Thanks for your help!

    -Dan

    Dan,

An alternative monitor is Samsung F2380, which is the more affordable and much better than the screens TN PVA screen.

64 GB of SSD is more than enough for the programs and the OS.

G.Skill Ripjaws are very good sticks.

Use either 2 separate raid0 arrays or an array of 2 discs raid0 and two separate drives. It depends on a little of your workflow and backup capabilities, what to choose. Take a look at the generic Guide... on the overview tab.

  • Compatibility of SSDS on IdeaPad laptops

    Hello

There are a few posts on the SSD, but none that has answered my question and proposed general guidelines. That is why this thread.

    1.)

How determine if their laptop model is compatible with a particular SSD?

    2.)

I have an Ideapad y560p and I want to know if Intel 530 series 250 GB 2.5 inch ssdl or kingston hyperX 3K 240 sata iii SSD will be compatible with my laptop before I actually go ahead a buy a!

I asked the support of lenovo and they said y560p are not compatible with any SSD either, but I know that to some have swapped their drive hard y560p for SSD.

Thanks for your answer in advance!

    The best

    YOG

The best way to choose an SSD is to choose by yourself with a bit of reading the situation on the evolution of the SSD market all the time with new controllers, new memory chips and so on. You must enter some comments and comparisons of recent SSDS and choose what suits your taste and your wallet best. Note, that in normal use you won't see much difference between most SSDS modern (except of course by markers). Even my 250GB 2.5 "TLC Samsung 840, which certainly isn't top-spec, is speed of light compared to any disk including SSHD.

As long as the drive you look at is size 2.5 "SATA connector, it will work. There are other things that you should consider what your laptop SATA revision supports and does support features like AHCI, NCQ, TRIM, but it will affect not the ability to use it. It will affect the speed and reliability of your SSD.

In addition, your laptop is Sandy Bridge, is certainly not old. I used SSD on a laptop of 2006 with Merom C2D. You shouldn't have any problems running any modern SSDs, including 240 GB Crucial or Kingston.

What I recommend is that you choose one that is reliable. As I said before you will be carried away by the speed everything that you choose. However, you will regret your decision, when your player will stop after a few months without apparent reason. It's the brand, duration of security and reputation comes in. I'm not walked SSD recently, but I don't think that Kingston is considered such a brand.

  • External hard drive problems Y560p

I have an Ideapad Y560p and my laptop does not seem to read large usb 2.5 ", external hard drives. I am trying to use a 500 GB and the disk turns but does not entirely and open in Windows. The external hard drive works on another laptop.
    Two computers use Windows 7.

(Sometimes), I can access my 320 ext hdd, but this player also has problems. I also have a "TTO Tray" error that appears often, and these problems may be related.

Any ideas on how I can solve these problems?

    Hi Zehn,

Yes, I tried a cable in there, but the power supply doesn't seem to be the issue.

I COULD have solved the problem. I found the disc in my device manager and it has been disabled. I tried to activate the device, but I got an error code 22, and I needed to remove the device. When I plugged it in the drivers have been reinstalled, and it seems to be good for now.
