One or maybe two sticks of memory failed. If it's not very common to have two fail - it wouldn't be a bad idea to replace both if you can afford it. You could also spend 4 GB of the 2 GB, you have now.

  • How can I upgrade my Presario CQ57 to make it faster?

    Hello

My laptop is a bit slow, so I'd like to update some of the components to make it faster.

Could you recommend me a better processor? & a RAM if you consider it necessary for this purpose?

    Compaq Presario CQ57 Notebook

    Intel (r) Celeron (r) CPU B800 @ 1.50 GHz 1.50 GHz

    2.0 GB OF RAM

    _ 64-bit Windows7

    Computer system product: 5CB21874YP

    Hewlett-Packard: 068C 110003204910000620100

    Thank you

RAM is much easier updating. I recommend at least 4 gigs, and it will take up to 8. She takes DDR3-1333 SO-DIMM memory. CQ57-339WM seems to be your model.

This is the service manual you need to swap processors:

    Manual

The CQ57s equipped with a Celeron processor will accept only the Celeron processors. There are a couple more quickly available for your computer Celeron, but exchanging a Celeron for a another Celeron just doesn't seem worth it to me.

If you want the computer to run more quickly install 4 GB of RAM and upgrade to a disk hard solid state. The speed improvement is actually more you'd get from opting for a faster Celeron processor. After the back if you want more specific suggestions.

  • Upgrade memory Presario M2401XT

I have a Presario M2401XT with 256 MB installed. Can I replace the only card of 256 MB with a single 1 GB card? I think that there are two slots. I have to update the BIOS?

It peaks at 1 GB and uses SO - DIMM DDR-266. The largest single module is a 512 meg then remove the 256 and install 2 x 512. 1 x 1 gig might work but no guarantee. 1 gig modules were probably not yet been invented when the laptop was sold. Memory:

    http://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=Presario%20M2000%20Series

    Repair manuals

    Page 5-13

For Windows Xp, even by adding an additional module of 256 meg would make a world of difference. You can combine a 256 and a 512, and it makes sense since a 256 is the same price as a 512.

My laptop is a compaq. I got it for the last 3 years. The battery is overloaded with work. I put in hibernation and not really stop him. Or it is always enabled.
Today he died on me because I saw a notice telling me to replace the battery.

I removed the battery and I'm only using the power supply. But still nothing. Help, please

    Hi @Stompt,

    Thank you for your request!

I understand that your battery is dead and you deleted. Now you can not start your laptop.  Some laptops are designed at startup to check the battery. If it does not find one, then it turns off.  If you reinstall the battery flat, you are able to boot up your laptop?  Should this not be the case, what happens when you try to turn on the laptop?

As you need a spare battery, here is a link to find the right battery or adapter for your laptop. If you need help to find your specific model here is a link to computers laptops HP - how do I find my model number, serial number or product?.

Have you tried to type the F11 key immediately after switching on to see if you can boot into Recovery Manager on the D partition? You can do a reinstall from there too.

  • Need to "downgrade" my Compaq Presario CQ57 of Windows 8

A few weeks ago, I upgraded my Presario CQ57 to Windows 8.  Well, I don't like her, and I now have a desktop computer that is anyway a touchscreen that works beautifully.  I thought about my computer limited knowledge that I had created the backup disks to restore my system to Windows 7 Home Premium, but it turns out it's a repair disc.

Is it possible for me to order the right from HP disk to return my laptop for Windows 7?  I found something on the internet with this post: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Operating-Systems-e-g/The-Cleanest-Install-Windows-7-Recovery-D...

I don't know what to do.  Any help would be appreciated!  Thank you!

    Hello:

Please read the info on the link below to see how to order for your PC recovery disc:

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/bph07143

I believe that my instructions are easy to follow to make your own install of W7 media, if you do more like that.

You can also make your own regular install of W7 disc and allows to reinstall windows 7 If you can read the product key 25 character microsoft on the COA sticker on the case of the PC. You will have none of the programs supplied with the PC using this method, however.

If you can read the Microsoft windows 7 25-character product key, you can download simple Windows 7 ISO files to burn on a DVD for the version of windows that is installed on your PC, and which is listed on the Microsoft COA sticker on your PC case.

Burn the ISO with the option to burn the ISO on your DVD burning program and burn it at the slowest possible speed that will allow your program. This will create a bootable DVD.

Or use the installation of Windows 7 USB/DVD tool to compile the ISO file that you download from Digital River. Link and instructions below. You need a 4 GB flash drive to use the USB compilation method.

    http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msstore/HTML/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool

Use 25 characters on the PC product key to activate the installation.

The key will activate a 32 or 64 bit installation.

Then go to the support of the PC and driver page to install the drivers you need.

Link to downloads ISO of W7 is below.

  • Compaq Presario CQ57-104TU: upgrade Ram, memory (Ram Hynix PC3L-12800)

    Hello world

    I have a Compaq Presario CQ57-104TU. I recently decided to upgrade the ram (currently 1 x 2 GB Elpida PC3 - 10600 1333 Mhz). I bought 2 x 4 Gb Hynix HMT451S6AFR8A, PC3L-12800. Unfortunitely when I install the new Ram (Hynix)

the computer does not start. Is there something I can do or the Ram is not compatible?

    Any help would be appreciated,

    André

    Here is the Service Manual:

    Manual

See p.2. Specified memory is DDR3-1333 1.5 volt and you try to install low-voltage DDR3-1600. In addition, memory that you are trying to install is high density, because it has 4 blocks on each side, where I am betting that original memory was of low density (8 blocks). Long story short, it is not compatible. It do you no good to install DDR3-1600 by the way. Best of cases, it will anyway be downclock speed 1333.
