Upgrade of RAM Equium A100-147
Hi, I have an Equium A100-147 with the standard of 1 GB of RAM (512 MB + 512 MB pc-4200) professional XP.
I'd like to update, and I was wondering if it would be allowed to replace one of the 512 MB sticks with a single stick of 2 GB pc-5300. RAM would be then 2 GB pc-5300 plus 512 MB pc-4200 = 2.5 GB in total.
Or would it be better to buy 2 x 1 GB sticks of pc-5300 and sell or discard existing memory?
I see a significant speed increase over the existing configuration of the Ram?
All advice appreciated.
I agree with Akuma, it would be better to use 2 x 1 GB modules.
This combination with 2 GB and 512 MB with different (PC4200 and PC5300) specifications could make problems like freezing, BSOD, etc..
At present, the price of memory is very cheap, so I think that this should not be a problem.
I've had my laptop Toshiba Satellite A100-338 for over 2 years now and the other day that I upgraded the RAM to 4 GB to 1 GB, I noticed that the battery level is low and I can't get to the 30-40 minutes out of the battery max. There generally has 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours of life on a battery fully so far
I thought that adding RAM more would make the battery last longer, but I don't know she s RAM that of done
Any help appreciated, thanks!
In my opinion RAM upgrade cannot be responsible for the lower battery capacity. I've updated / downgraded memory on my notebooks and I didn t notice something like that.
That means when you reuse the 1 GB of RAM you can use the battery run for too long?
Has anyone upgraded from Xp to Vista family premium on notebook titled or similar, my laptop barely meets the minimum requirements in terms of RAM and graphics (1 GB and 128 MB of memory) I ask because I'm not switching from Xp (which works fine) for Vista and find everything is nice but slowly chugs along. Your thoughts please.
Kind regards... John
128Megs for charts should be sufficient. I tried and had no problem. The problem will be the RAM. You should switch to 2 GB. Since I was two GB it works fine. But when I install the final version (when the drivers are there) I turn off AERO when even. I work with my laptop and I do not have the graphics stuff.
I think to upgrade the RAM on my Equium A100-147 and I was wondering what kind of RAM I should get and what is the maximum amount of RAM supported?
It has a processor clocked at 1.6 GHz centrino duo t2050 if that's any help? I looked on the toshiba site and they sell only 1 GB of supported modules, but in other places I've seen people say that it can take more?
The maximum RAM capacity depends on your chipset you have. From Toshiba Web site displays a maximum capacity of 4 GB of RAM, but don t forget, you need an OS to use the full capacity of 64-bit. Otherwise, you are only able to use about 3 GB.
You can buy all the modules you want to, but I made good experiences with the Kingston modules. Kingston memory research shows the compatible modules for your laptop:

Hi I have an Equium A100-147 with a CARPET * a DVD-RAM UJ - 841S and I am returning the dvd region 2 region.
Tried to go through Win DVD, media player and the Manager of devices but not successful on all occasions.
Whenever I thought I left a change of reference, but when I say yes I want to make the change, that is not the case.
I tells me that I must use a region 2 media (do) and the administrator (this is me - I'm the only user).
I now regret letting my nephew use the laptop for watching a region 1 dvd.
Am not longer under warranty but have whateverhappens coverage of curries.
If you check the properties of ODD under DVD Region changes remaining how is noticed?
I own an Equium A100-147 with 60 GB HARD drive. I have a recovery disc and have restored the laptop several times.
I am considering an upgrade to 250 GB HARD drive.
Couple of questions...
The motherboard will host a 250 GB drive?
If I replace the HARD drive recover CD will install a new copy of the fatory software you (inc windows xp MCE)?
Any advice would be welcome.
Yes, you can use a 250 GB. The laptop has a SATA interface and there is no limit as to IDE.
If you use the recovery CD, you will get to factory settings. This means an XP installation with all the drivers and tools.
Equium A100-147 (Windows MCE) bought compatible Vista and bought my promised copy of Vista... used Toshiba step by step DVD ROM upgrade and also updated the Bios.
Tried to load Vista Home Premium and after going through all the steps, it came with this message...
«Could not update the computer startup configuration - installation cannot go ahead «...»»
How should I proceed and what is useful to load Vista.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Considers that Howard.
How have you tried to install vista on the laptop?
Have you tried to switch the MCE to Vista or were you running the new clean install of Vista?
In my opinion, you must perform a clean installation. Don t updated the existing MCE of Vista.
In such cases, you can join different installation problems
If you are an owner of an original MS windows XP CD try to run the console of your windows XP CD recovery.
Demarrer start from the CD at startup, and then press R to access the recovery console after loading the driver.
In the recovery console, typefixbootand then restart your laptop.
Then insert your Vista installation and restart.
This should solve your problem.
I have an Equium A100-147 with Vista home Premium SP1 and 1 GB of RAM.
Recently I get a glitch-pop-crack from time to time even if the audio output is cut.
Have no idea what could be the cause?
I'm more or less certain that everything is up-to-date.
Thanks in advance.
I never heard a question also and now I can t say what's the reason for this. :(
You have the same problem on external speakers?
What operating system do you use?
Perhaps you need to update the audio driver you can find on the Toshiba site:

Equium A100-147 would not start. Only the lights next to the CapsLock F10 F11 keys are on. When the switch is pushed the lights disappear back only after about 15 seconds.
Disconnect the power adapter and remove the battery. After doing this press the power for 30 seconds. Wait a few moments, connect the power adapter only and try to start your laptop.
What happens when you do this?
I uninstalled the readers of DVD/CD ROM of my Equium A100-147 model PSAABE by mistake. How I can I restore it? I'm not very technical
It means that your CD/DVD drive is not more?
Have you already checked the Device Manager if the drive is visible or not?
Otherwise, you must follow the instructions in this Microsoft KB article:

any suggestions are welcome. get really annoyed with my machine as my warranty expired only one month
Hmm... I studied a bit and it looks a bit like a malfunction of the partition.
It would be desirable to boot from the original CD of Microsoft XP and to start the repair console.
Then you could try these various commands which help to repair the boot manager, repair errors, locate bad sectors and recover readable information.
If this does not help, you should erase the entire partitions and must format the HARD drive in NTFS file system. Then access the BIOS and set it to the default value.
Once this procedure tries to start again on the new recovery CD!
Having a little trouble with my Equium a100-147.
Tried a recovery from disk and I got up to 75% and recovery stopped.
Taken to a computer shop to get it fixed and they couldn't do anything because they do not have a disc of recovery in good condition.
Is there anywhere I can download the image to a different computer, put it on a dvd and restart from that one?

I got a toshiba Equium A100-147 by a friend. The only problem is that it comes without a hard drive, because he still destroyed his old hdd to protect its personal and professional data.
I saw in a local computer store a disk sata hard very good price for only? Â £38 it's a 160 GB w Digital Scorpio 5400 RPM 8 MB Cache S - ATA HDD laptop someone knows if it will work or this laptop does it work-specific hdd?
Looking forward to any help you guys can give
Of course you need a compatible HARD drive.
There are two different standards of HARD drive. SATA and IDE
You need the HARD drive with the SATA interface. I think the original HARD drive was 100 GB.
So a 120 GB and maybe a 160 GB SATA HDD should also be compatible.
As far as I know the HARD drive slot was placed at the bottom of the unit and a screw secures the plastic cover.
It of really not difficult to replace the HARD drive and I think that the details could be found in the user manual.
I have the same problem, as in the http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=17316 section.
I downloaded and installed all the drivers that I needed on my Equium A100-147, but not working no driver Lan (ethernet).
I have windows XP, home edition, SP2.
I tried both types of drivers Toshiba download (and a few others also), that should work... but unfortunately, it does not.
I'd be happy if someone could help me. Thanks anyway.
Thanks for the feed back, but I must say that I'm really confused why you have problem to facilities with driver on Toshiba download page. In any case, the problem is solved and that's the most important thing! ;)
