My G5 crashed and I was using CS2.

I'll install CS 5.5 on my new iMac,

It does that a single drive as an upgrade, I first have to install my CS2

or can I just install the upgrade?

    Hi Dave Ferrin;

You don't need to install CS2 before installing the upgrade as long as you have the serial number of the CS2 product.

The CS5.5 upgrade Setup will check your system for a qualifying earlier version of the software. If it does not, it invites you to enter the serial number CS2 for verification.

You will then be asked to enter the new serial number (for CS5.5) and continue the installation.

    Upgrade to Lion

If your computer does not meet the requirements to install the Mavericks, it can still meet the specifications to install Lion.

You can buy Lion to the Apple store. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus taxes.  It's a download. You will receive an email with a redemption code that you then use on the Mac App Store for download Lion. Save a copy of this installer to your download folder because Setup deletes itself at the end of the installation.

    Lion system requirements

1 mac with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,

    or Xeon processor

    2. 2 GB of memory

    3 OS X 10.6.6 or later (10.6.8) recommended

    4. 7 GB of available space

    5. certain features require an Apple ID; conditions apply.

I suggest that stick you with Snow Leopard because the Lion is a bit a dog. If you really need to upgrade over Snow Leopard, then you need a new computer.

  • Should I unplug external drives during the upgrade?

Contemplating upgrading to El Capitan.  I have an iMac end of 2014, so I know that it is correct.  My question is - should I disconnect all external drives and devices before you run the upgrade, or it doesn't matter?

I remember too, when I updated before, the new operating system does recognize the Time Machine backups.  Should I do to be able to access the TM of the previous operating system?

    Thank you

    Barbara

It can't hurt to unplug external drives.

Time Machine should recognize the previous backups. Which means, you should be able to go back to the backups made since previous versions of OS X. I know when I upgraded from 10.10.5 to 10.11.3, I could see/restore back ups in 10.10.5.

Another thing to consider is once the Installer OS X El Capitan.app file is downloaded and before you click continue to install, copy this file from / applications to another folder (for example, downloads) so that you have it if you need it in the future. Download time records.

  • I have an iMac 2007 running osx 10.6, I would upgrade to the Mavericks.  I don't have an installation CD, how to accomplish this?

I have an iMac 2007 mid running osx 10.6 with 4 GB of Ram. I want to upgrade to the Mavericks, 10.9. I don't have the installation CD and the App store only allow me to upgrade El Capitan. I'm afraid that this will bring my iMac to a crawl. Any thoughts on how I can find an installation CD or recommend other methods to achieve this?

    Thank you

    Larry

Your model is eligible? You can install El Capitan now. There is no disk installer for use with OS X since the release of Snow Leopard. Why do you believe that El Capitan will bring your computer to a crawl, but the Mavericks will not?

If I were you I would stick with Snow Leopard, because it is more suitable for your old hardware. Note that Snow Leopard is needed in order to upgrade to Lion or later version.

    Upgrade to Snow Leopard

You can buy Snow Leopard at the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (US). The price is $ 19.99 plus tax. You will receive a physical media by mail after placing your order.

After the installation of Snow Leopard you will need to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Combo Update v1.1 update Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store lets you download Mavericks if your computer meets the requirements.

         General requirements for Snow Leopard

    1. equipped mac to an Intel processor

    2. the 1 GB memory

    3. 5 GB of available disk space

    4. DVD drive for installation

    5. some features require a compatible Internet service provider;

    charges may apply.

    6. some features require Apple iCloud services; fees and

  • Upgrade of computer/CC: After effects Plugins

    Hello

If my workplace had just recently upgraded my Mac Pro iMac.
I'm using Adobe CS4 and similarly had upgraded to Adobe Creative cloud on my new iMac

When I took over the work of the previous motion graphic designer, all third-party plugins are already installed and running.
This is why I'm totally clueless how to transfer or install all of my old desktop to my new iMac.
The plugin go 3rd I want to transfer are following Trapcode

    Help, please

There is nothing to transfer. You must buy the Red Giant Software Update and install it. CS4 was 32-bit only and all of the current versions are 64-bit, so by the mere fact that it wouldn't work, not to mention the specifics of CC 2015 requiring upgrades. The same would apply pretty much any other third-party stuff.

    Hello

I have Photoshop CS on my old Mac, which I'm retired shortly for an intel shiny, new iMac.

While I'm here, I want to upgrade to CS4 to go with my new iMac.

I understand that CS installs on an iMac intel, but I obviously want to buy the CS4 update, so how can I upgrade to CS4 if I'm unable to install CS'A on my new iMac?

Easy.  The CS4 installer will prompt you to the old serial number, but also a new.  All upgrades of Adobe are plenty of installers.
