Upgrade to 3TO HDD on mid-2010 iMac 27 "

2 TB Hitachi HDD in mid-2010 iMac 27 "quad-core i7 2.93 Ghz. considering short of spare space internally to 3 (or 4).

Course 3 TB hard drives are compatible with this system? Problems with the temperature sensor? Recommendations for the replacement of brand/model?

N ° 2 TB is, according to me, the bigger you can install. Data transfer you only use on an external drive and delete from in-house to create more usable space.

Free space on hard drive

1. see Lion-Lion/mountain/storage of the Mavericks display.

2. you can remove the data from your file except for the folder/Home/Library /.

3. visit The FAQ XLab and read the FAQ on the free space on your hard drive.

4. also see release space on your Mac OS X startup disk.

5 see where my disk space gone?.

6 see the storage view.

You must empty the trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.

You should consider to replace the drive with a larger. Check out OWC of readers, tutorials and boxes tools.

Try using OmniDiskSweeper 1.8 or GrandPerspective to search your drive for large files and where they are.

  • mid-2010 iMac slower afer is upgraded to El Capitan

    Hi all

I ran EtreCheck (thanks Allan!); details below.

Also ran AHT & it showed no problems

I installed an SSD in December machine considered fast - then installed El Capitan and he slowed, & I think it's gotten worse in recent weeks.

    Symptoms:

    • delays of beach ball
    • Some applications and files are very slow to open
    • using bluetooth keyboard & mouse - cursor seems to get hung up in emails, etc. (& same jumps around tasks randomly once in a while - JUST started using the mouse & keyboard cable; so far, not sure they are better.)
    • using iCloud for most documents.  The files are slow to open, but Cnet speed test shows that 20-30 MB/s download speed.

I do not know is that a "clean install", but I had no problem (obvious) El Cap installation.

With the SSD and 20 GB of RAM, this machine should always work for some time, Yes?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and advice.

The only obvious thing that I see is that your RAM is installed incorrectly. It should be in pairs, your is wrong in pairs. The Bank 0 and Bank 1 should have identical RAM installed.   You also have a very old version of Parallels installed. If you use Windows yet then upgrade of Parallels and if you uninstall according to the developers.

  • Reset foolproof Mid 2010 iMac

Hey people and our apologies in advance to those of you who are aware, I am the fool who needs protection against

I am trying to reset the iMac family as it has been rumbling along for close to 6 years accumulating all the usual garbage. Multiple users, multiple libraries etc. My feeling is to do a factory reset and then spend some time setting the system manually rather than Time Machine etc. I know it's rather long, but I want to make sure that whatever it is on the iMac is here to design rather than a hangover or an oversight. I will also be implemented as a user to avoid the trash in a triple that we had before.

so... the question is how to do the factory reset without risk. I took all the files that I want to disable external hard drives and I have TM backups too. My only concern is because it is a 2010 that I have more no disks. IS this a problem or I'll be able to use the Restorer online?

    Machine - iMac (27-inch, mid 2010), 3.2 GHz Intel Core i3, 12 GB 1333 MHz DDR3, ATI Radeon HD 5670 512 MB, macOS Sierra 10.12

    Thanks in advance

    k

If the computer is running Sierra what you can do is to restart in the recovery (command-R on startup) Partition

Then, open disk utility and erase the internal HD ATTENTION! This will clean the HD.

Then close THE, and then select install Mac OS and select the internal HD. This will install a clean version of Mac OS X on the computer.

Once OS X is installed, select Restart and make sure that you choose the HD internal as boot drive. Once the computer restarts with your new version of Sierra you can start to install your applications and restore your files, settings, etc...

Normally this beeps indicate memory RAM problems. You can try to take a MEMORY first and see if it gets better. If this is not the case, try a different RAM and check if it makes a difference.

  • Only 2 available ram slots, not 4 on 27 inch Mid 2010 iMac i3

    Hello

Well, I'm puzzled.  I bought an iMac 27 inch, Intel Core i3 mid2010 news about 5 years ago. In the about this Mac it says 4 slots available, with only 2 in use (2 GB each).  This week I took it to a technician to install additional RAM and we discovered that the slots are not available. There is a molding hard plastic over them and in fact with a closer observation, that we noticed that even if I had to cut the moldings for the ram to connect. The tech denounces with Mac every day, because he's never seen it before.

I just called Apple directly, and they have no idea why this would be.   Anyone else out there he never heard of this?

    Thank you, Darrell

There are black plastic tabs that partially cover and returned to eject modules of ram installed. Get out the tabs, install the RAM and drag the tab back in. https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/iMac+Intel+27-Inch+EMC+2390+RAM+Replacement/8828

See > install memory in an iMac - Apple Support

Problem is that the Mac is very picky and not just any PC3-10600 1333 MHz modules will work.

Your best bet is to buy for providers like OWC and Crucial memory modules that specialize iMac RAM.

  • The upgrade of the MacBook (13-inch, mid 2010) HDD and RAM

    Hi all!

Before I get started here are my system specs:

    MacBook 13 inch, mid-2010 (white)

    Model: A1342

Processor: 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

    Memory: 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3

Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce 320 M 256 MB

    Serial number: 451244SHF5W

    Software: OS X El captain

OK here's what I've done the research and understand from my research since a page archived Apple.com, ifixit.com and crucial.com and some comments I've read as well:

According to ifixit.com, saying that most of this computer can manage is a 750 GB hard drive, yet I go to Crucial.com and when I look at the SSD (which I can't afford) says that this computer can be installed with a 1 TB SSD. Does this mean I could install a hard 1 TB? This computer can manage a second 500 GB hard drive at all? My second Question is in what regards the memory now, I go to apple.com page archived and is no longer being updated by Apple, it says most who manages this computer is 2 GB to 4 GB. I am not convinced. Is not possible to move to 8 GB to 16 GB or more on such a system? I'm just curious, I bought this from a seller on eBay who reconditions the Apple laptops and I bought this for a member of the family. If none of these improvements are possible I send this computer back and get my money back. Thanks for the help. I need a response as the end of today! AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

    It's the right information:

A model of Macbook 2010 7 identifier, 1 will support up to 16 GB of RAM (download the OWC)

    https://eShop.MacSales.com/shop/memory/Apple_MacBook_MacBook_Pro/upgrade/DDR3_Wh ite

You can install a SATA HDD/SSD currently available that are 2 TB of capacity.

You can install a "data cube" instead of for a second HDD, but as this Macbook DVD drive can have a 2 TB of HARD disk installed, I see little interest to do unless you have an extraordinary amount of data.

    Ciao.

  • I need to upgrade my Mac (MacBook white unibody mid 2010) with a SSD (and iMac mid-2010) and the RAM and SSD

I need to upgrade my Mac (white unibody MacBook mid-2010) with a SSD (and iMac mid-2010) and the RAM and SSD: I look to buy upgrades site Crucial and OWC site and there is a little difference, in terms of money: it's better to buy the Crucial site or OWC site.

MacBook, OS X El Capitan (10.11.4)

    < re-titled by host >

They have good tools to find compatible parts for your Mac models.  The OWC took is here

    http://eShop.MacSales.com/MyOWC/

OWC tends to have the most detailed information on the Mac.  If I look to the top of the part to OWC and review specifications.  OWC offers often information based on the Mac-specific tests.  If Crucial offer something similar for a substantially lower price, buy it from Crucial.  I'm sure they have a refund is not political, if a part they say is compatible.  I bought the RAM and SSD both Crucial and OWC.  From my experience, be it high quality.

For the 2010 iMac, OWC also offers a "kit" (with the tools and support) to replace the hard drive of 3.5 inches with a 2.5-inch SSD.  Eventually, if it's a 27-inch iMac, I think that you can Add the SSD instead of replace the hard drive.  And they have self-produced how-to videos on the process, related to many of their lists of products.  OWC provides a lot of information with added value and service for Mac users.

OWC also offers kits to replace the optical drive on some Macs (including MacBooks) with an SSD (as a secondary internal drive).

  • Update the iMac 21.5 mid 2010 "with SSD

Hi - I am interested in upgrading my iMac 21.5 mid 2010 "with an internal SSD. Have been reading the posts on the subject and I wanted to clarify a few points. As I understand it, there is not a spare drive Bay, so my options are to replace the existing drive, or replace the optical drive.

    My questions are:

    (1) is there a difference in meaning in performance in both options?

    (2) the location of the optical drive is a stable position (physically) to put a SSD?

    (3) if it is placed in the location of the optical drive, I'll be able to boot from the SSD drive?

    (4) I read that if you replace the hard drive, there is also a problem with a heat sensor that fans end up running a full speed, and you must download a software workaround solution, or get a special thermal sensor OWC. This applies also to put it in the optical Bay? Why or why not, and if not, is the drive always properly cooled? Not sure I quite understand that part.

    Thanks for any help,

I added an SSD for my iMac 2011. It has an extra SATA port, so I could leave the optical drive in place and put the SSD in behind it, while keeping the original HARD disk too.

I think that 2010 models do not have this port, but the other World Computing would be able to confirm this on their site based on the available kits.

    1. you won't see any difference in performance in both positions. Note, the 2010 iMac uses ports SATA 3 G, so if you use a 6G SSD, it will only run at 3G speeds. Willl you always get a huge performance on the old HDD even gain at this slower speed.

    2. Yes, to use the available kits

    3. Yes the installer once you define which drive you want to boot from in system preferences > startup

    4. I think it's only valid for 2011 models, but still OWC kits will show if you need the adaptor cable. It does not apply in the optical drive. Cooling still works correctly if you use the kits to correct or additional software.

Edit: just check out OWC, it seems that the thermal cable adapter is required for this model

Edit 2: If you have never worked on electronics, I strongly suggest that you do not open the iMac yourself. If it is not particularly difficult if you are experienced, it is very easy to break something if you do not have this experience.
