Upgrade to a Mac Pro 8-Core to El Capitan 2008?

Is it a good idea to upgrade a 2008 Mac Pro 8 - Core to El Capitan? For the most part, run FCP7 and logic Pro9.

Thank you.

What OSX version upgrade?

The version of the applications may not work on the EC.

In addition, if you have some USB or PCle devices they may require an updated driver for CBS and for some devices there is no updated drivers.

    Hello old friends!

Common sense, to the age of my current BOOT DRIVE (320GB) and the recent difficulties of start-up tell me I should replace the DISK to BOOT in my Mac Pro 4 - core (mid-2006) 2.66 GHz ASAP - in fact, immediately

I do NOT need more capacity.  Currently I have a 320 with 225 available GB boot drive.  However, I do understand that there may be nothing in this range of low capacity available out there more.  I was buy new disks for the other three bays, and they are 1 and 2 TB of disk.

Should I buy a big for my boot drive?  Should I consider a SSD?  I want to less than $100 or more.

I recently installed Mountain Lion on a newly formatted on my Mac Pro Quad Core Intel Xeon desktop drive, installed all updates to 10.8.5 and now when I try to record on the 1 TB drive, says the disk is locked. When I try to copy files to the boot disk, I authenticate first. The other 2 HD copy and record properly. What is happening that I can't save or copy on the new drive? My applications act as they are also used for the first time. I did a "Get Info" to verify permissions and changed to read & write for all accounts.

Reset user - file property See post by Linc Davis

You may need to restore the permissions on your user account. To do this, start on your recovery partition (hold down the command and R during startup) and open Terminal from the Utilities menu. In the Terminal, type: 'resetpassword' (without the), press return, and then select the admin user. You do not have to reset your password. Click the icon of your Mac hard drive at the top. In the list box below, select the user account that has problems. At the bottom of the window, you will see a box labeled restore Home Directory permissions and ACLs. Click the button to reset there. The process takes a few minutes. When you're finished, restart.

  • 2009 mac Pro 8 core graphics upgrade advice

Hi everyone, my Mac Pro crashed recently and wiped out the SSD drive and 8800gt graphic card in the process. I have since replaced the SSD but you want to replace the graphics card also. Can anyone recommend some links to maps of upgrade appropriate that work with this machine you?

Take a look at macvidcards, they have a wide variety of graphics cards from amd and nvidia, from low cost to high power.

In general, every current video card should work in your mac, but the 'pure windows versions' do not show an image until osx is fully charged and drivers are loaded.

Versions of macvidcard are flashed so can show splash screens. Not normally necessary, but when that mind in the process of starting or when you need bootcamp boot selection screen, you will see the value of the additional monetary you spent for the funniest versions.

I got my 980ti to them.

  • Is it possible to upgrade to a Mac Pro graphics card to run the LIVE HTC?

    I have a Mac Pro, with 3.7 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon E5, 32 GB 1866 MHz DDR3 ECC and AMD over-pants D300 with 2048 of vram.

I just bought a HTC Vive and I'm looking for possible solutions avoid buying an additional pc.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks for any helpful info.

Only upgrades would be to replace the D300 with the D500 or of the D700. You can get them on eBay or elsewhere. Apple does not sell to them.

  • 3.46Ghz mac Pro 12-Core (hot rodded) should I buy?

    Hello

There seems to be a lot of Mac 12-core for sale... at reasonable prices.

I'm looking for advice on/to their topic.

    (1) are they all models 2009 and later?

    (2) are motherboards bottlenecked?

    (3) is there a difference between a world

    adopted 2009 and adopted a 2012.

    Thank you

    Michael North

-They must be either 2010 or later or a 2009 firmware has been updated on 2010 since 2009 can only use 4-core processors.

-There is little bit of difference/no significant differences between a 2009 with updated firmware and the Pros 2010 - 2012 Mac

-The bottleneck is usually disk read/write from the bus SATA is only SATA II (3 GB/s). Installation of a 2 1/2 SSD increase I/O.

Plu fast I/O, you can install a blade PCLE based SSDS

The SSD to 'Classic' Mac Pro training

-Many applications can use the graphics processor for the calculations, so a better graphics card can increase the flow. But it depends on the applications used.

  • Very high readings of temperature CPU of the Mac Pro 8-core 2007

I have a Mac Pro 1.1 updated to level with two Intel Xeon X 5365 CPU and firmware 2.1. The system has worked very well for months. However, I'm worried about CPU temperature readings. Assuming that the readings are correct, I have no explanation for the difference in typical 30 degree Celsius between the processor and the heat sink.

Is it possible, that the CPU exceeds their life expectancy?

During a stress test, I can see the following typical readings:

    CPU core 87 C / 189 F

    CPU a heatsink 58 C / 136 F

    B processor 91 c/196 F

    CPU radiator B C 59/138 F

I use new thermal paste Arctic MX-2 and tried various measures, including polishing of the surface of the CPU and the heatsink using sandpaper grain 1000. Nothing has so far had no effect on temperature readings. There should be enough good contact between the heatsink and processor during the installation, because they stick well enough to remove the heatsink again.

Max TCASE. According to the operating temperature -1333 http://ark.intel.com/products/30702/Intel-Xeon-Processor-X5365-8M-Cache-3_00-GHz-MHz-FSB is 63 degrees Celsius.

According to http://www.intel.com/content/dam/doc/design-guide/5400-chipset-memory-controller-moyeu-guidelines.pdf the Quad-Core Intel® Xeon® 5300 series include a function of on-chip temperature sensor. The heat sink provided by Apple has a temperature sensor, which seems to be fixed directly on the coper plate that touches the CPU head spreader.

Given the following quote from the same document:

TIM's performance is sensitive to degradation (e.g. breakdown of fat) over the life of the processor because of the temperature of the phenomena of cycling. For this reason, measuring of the processor given TCASE value can decrease over time according to the type of material of TIM.

Anyone know if the IHS on the CPU is soldered or whether they used the thermal paste between the IHS and the die of a CPU? In the case, perhaps it could explain the current temperature readings.

    Any ideas? Thank you!

Your temperatures look a bit high, but not outrageous. The temperature measured on the Silicon of heat will be always higher than the temperature measured on the radiator. That's what the radiator is supposed to do, leads away from the heat to the fins, which would measure even more cool.

Your Mac allows to adjust speed of the fans to the top in a loop of feedback, founded the temperature of these measures. You can place a floor under your minimum speeds of fans. This can be done with the tool similar to some tool you already use, like the SMC fan control.

If the processors to exceed their safe operation temperature, your Mac will perform a sudden uncontrolled power off.

  • Upgrade my 2009 mac Pro

I am running OS X El Capitan 10.11.3 version. I'm looking to rank my early 2009 mac pro 2.66 GHz Quad-core 3 X 2 Gb 1066 MHz to a core of 3.33 GHz 12 with a memory of 32 GB at 1333 MHz, I also want to update my video card with output double mini display. Already, I have a 1 TB SSD, is there anything else I can do to improve performance. And how would address this problem.

    Than you

If you have that 2 GB or RAM, hold off on adding processors up to that increase you the RAM.

Once you have enough RAM for that Activity Monitor shows green permanently, then look at CPU utilization. If the CPU is not maxed out, you need help with your e/s and faster processor will not make a major improvement except in the compressor.

  • Problems after installing Photoshop CS5 Extended upgrade on my Mac Pro

Hi all, I hope you can advise me.  I received my order for CS5 Extended Adobe UK Upgrade this morning and quickly began to install on my Mac Pro (I have a full version of CS3 on my Mac with a CS4 update give me through my Ati Radeon HD4870 graphics card Open GL features).  Installation seems fine and at the end I click done and opened the CS5 to set preferences. That's where I found things were not as they seem.  The first thing that I became aware of was that my graphics card was not recognized and open GL and advanced settings are grayed out. Then, I tried to RAM the most recommended by CS5 to see when I clicked on OK and closes unexpectedly CS5 a dialog box appears saying that the program has been locked or I had not gotten access privileges to change the preferences. I checked the "Get Info" box and found the program was not locked and the permissions are set to read and write to the system and administrator and read-only for everyone. Sharing & permissions were greyed out both as it was in locked, so even if I wanted to I could not change these settings.

The next thing I found was that I couldn't change the workspace it is default "Essentials" and to top it off several times while trying these changes and access different parts of CS5 leaves unexpectedly ask me first send a report to Apple and Adobe tax then.  I tried to get help from the media, but it was 5 hours ago and they always called back as the automated message said they would be.  Sorry this is so long, but I think you need to know all this to help you if you can. My Mac Pro is Version 1-1 and I have 10 GB of RAM and loads of room om my hard drives.  Please tell us if you can

'Later' a few days ago is 10.12 Sierra and that Mac is not supported under Sierra.

10.11 El Capitan is always available for download (but deliberately difficult to download 'accidentally'). Any downloadable Mac OS requires you to have 10.6.8 in place first, because this is the version with a stable Mac App Store.

In an emergency, ask the dealer if they have a "Full Retail" 10.6.8 Snow Leopard DVD they could give you, or buy it for $ 20 on the Apple store online. Gray discs only work for the exact model, they are made for, so a gray disk for an iMac will not start and will not be installed.

"What graphics card" is motivated by what you plan to do with it. Mac-specific firmware a graphics card is necessary for a photo before the login screen. GT120 Mac firmware card is very affordable, but it's not bad a card if you plan on editing video and other.

To run El Capitan, there must be a minimum of 4 GB of RAM, and more is better. Your Mac uses DIMM modules in pairs in adjacent locations, and if you fill out accidentally all the slots, memory in double width for an increase in the speed of 17 percent.

  • Installation of Photoshop CS4 Extended upgrade on my Mac Pro. query

Hi all hope you can help me. I bought ps cs4 extended upgrade for my Mac. Try to install the program istall check my system profile then asks me the serial number of the product. all well up to this point, then on the next page, it tells me it cannot find an existing product to upgrade and asks me to insert the serial number of the eligible product. I have the full version of the standard cs3 on my Mac so I insert the number. OK so far. on the same page it asks me to choose my product qualifying showing cs3 extended in the box. However when I try to insert the standard cs3 I find there is nothing to change this option only one.  On the adobe website, it clearly shows that I should be able to update to the standard version, expanded. Can someone dvise me. I bought the upgrade of Apple and it is the international version.

It could be you have been sent or given the wrong upgrade package.

  • MacBook Pro 15 "Core 2 Duo (early 2008) - El Capitan Performance

Guys, so my computer was stolen a few days ago and I need to buy a replacement.
Unfortunately all this has happened in the worst time for me, so I have to buy something extremely budget.

I found a Unicorn. Pre-unibody MB Pro 15 "Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz with 4 GB of ram and GeForce 8600 in a State absolutely perfect (with literally nine original battery) for next to nothing. (alias a want of the friend of the family to sell it to me for a hundred dollars.)
I have a spare SSD, the plan is to use it and maybe, after a few tests, replace a chip memory 2GB 4 GB.

But let's assume that for now he stays with 4 gigs.

I need it mainly for use at home or in the office, I don't need a benefit 'video editing '.

Any of you still use this kind of mac and could tell me how it behaves with El Capitan?
Is a normal use, every day a huge pain?

    Thanks in advance,

    see you soon,

    Adam

I run it on a late 2008 2.53 Ghz core 2 duo and it isn't bad (althouhg I have a new retina 15 "machine to come next week, but it's just because it was time to buy something new after 8 years and the 15" material current is good for me - I really worry about the next update will go to the MacBook style keyboard which is clearly less IMO to the current keyboard Pro retina).

My end 2008 15 "has 8 GB of RAM but (OWC 4 GB SODIMM) .and I replaced the 320 GB 5400 RPM drive with an OWC 480 GB SSD drive. But even before the update level HD, the most notable decline in performance was the start. Once the system is up and running basics like Pages, Numbers, and others were very good, and I use Office 2016 and Endnote X 7 on mine as well without problem (work Office 365 uses, so I use one of my 5 installed on my Mac).  You will notice that the programs are a little slow to start, but once upward, they work fine as long as you're not too heavy on any multitasking of programs.

But I do not think that battery will be worth squat. There is no such thing as a "brand new original" of 8-9 years lithium battery. They begin at the point where they are assembled in decomposition and generation of the lithium battery will die in 3-4 years if used or rest.  There is no way that a battery lithium 8 years and more is going to be interesting to Courland longer. OWC sell replacements well and I have used several of their Epsonexpression batteries in my end of 2008 to replace machine as my batteries have worn for the duration of my machine.

I'd say it should be functional. OWC lists a 6 GB RAM upgrade for the machine too, and it would certainly help if you can afford it, stick an SSD in it would stimulate it too much. These two upgrades would be ~ $300 if, but if it gives you a working machine until you are ready for a current model, it might be useful.

As an alternative, have you looked at online Apple store refurb?  They have a few refurb MacBook Air was ~ $ 800. Just a thought, if your budget allows.

  • The limits for OSX Mac Pro 3.1 update in early 2008

I wonder till I can upgrade the operating system of my Mac Pro 3.1

    I currently have El Capitan

I would spend the money, do some hardware upgrades (SSD, RAM)

and I wouldn't, being an early 2008 to discover the next year general hardware of the machine is too old

and does not receive any other updates or any new OS

I do not pretend to have updates of the system for another 10 years but I don't find me 'old' next year

Unfortunately, there is no way of knowing what will be obsolete next year or the year after, etc.

  • Update book mac pro 17 "2009 to el capitan, is it useful?

I did hear some good thing of those who have upgraded their old Mac to El Capitan. I jst wanted to make sure I don't end up with a lemon after the upgrade. View off the coast for a few years now. I just bought a new MBP 2015 13 "and an iPad pro 12" so that they can synchronize. My old MBP does not recognize the iPad pro. Should I leave it alone, or is - this useful to upgrade the boy.

Needs at least 8 GB of RAM for adequate performance, unless you plan to use it for the most trivial things.

Take the leap, you should do is to make a clone of the appropriate internal drive to an external drive bootable using CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper and even plain old Disk Utility. Once you have that and confirmed that it works, it store, do the update and test it for a few days. If you don't like it, start from the clone, clean the internal drive and clone the old system, thus returning to what you have now.

My end 2011 15 "MBP runs reasonably well on model. Of course, to have 16 GB of RAM and a 7200 RPM HARD drive with plenty of free space helps a little. But it can compete on equal footing with the new 15 mid-2015"rMBP, which is at least 3 generations of CPU to come.
