Upgrade to Snow Leopard and Time Machine

Hello. I found this topic in an old topic, but it has been blocked so I couldn't answer. Here is a new.

I have a fairly old MacBook Pro... mid-2007. Provided with Tiger. Upgrade to Leopard in 2010 or more. I want to now upgrade to Snow Leopard and make a complete installation where I have completely clean the existing hard drive.

I did the Time Machine backups for about four years on my external hard drive. When I install Snow Leopard on my MBP, I can just do simple drag and drop the kind of things from my external hard drive on the hard drive of the MBP?

For example, once I've erased the hard disk of the MBP and do a new installation of Snow Leopard, can I then connect my external hard drive, open a certain folder and something like Pages slide window of the HD to the window of the Applications on my MBP?

Thank you!

Drag and Drop could be a problem, because these applications and files will not be usable unless they are properly updated. It would be better to have a clean install of Snow Leopard and then use the Migration Assistant to transfer files from your Time Machine backup. Note that Snow Leopard will ship with the Apple apps so they do not need to be transferred. You can check with 3rd party developers to ensure the compatibility of their software and upgrade options.

It is with the Migration Wizard:

  • Clean install of Snow Leopard backup Time Machine

I'm swapping computers with my daughter. Both MacBooks, one with installed Yosemite, the other with Snow Leopard.

We have backed up our files to separate external drives. Now, I have two related questions.

    1. If I understand correctly, we can now delete all the contents of the MacBook Snow Leopard and do a clean install of Yosemite or El Capitan before (or at the same time that?) from the TM backup data recovery. This hypothesis is correct?

    2. the content of the Snow Leopard system should be installed on the MacBook running Yosemite. What's the procedure here? In other words, it is possible erase the drive, and then start the computer into recovery mode is to have only the Time Machine backup?

  • Upgraded to Snow Leopard and I can't print. Help, please!

I saw messages for people with the same printer as mine, which have been able to print in black and white only.  I was not able to print since I upgraded my Mac to Snow Leopard 10.6

Help, please!  I tried to install driver, failed.  I should not have bought a new computer just because I upgraded!   ANY SUGGESTION WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED

    Hello

You can try following the steps on your Mac, that explains how 'Reset Print System '.

    1. choose the Apple menu > System Preferences, and then click Print & Telec.
2 open the print & Fax preferences
3 hold the control key while you click in the list on the left and choose "Reset printing system" from the menu that appears. (CAUTION - This will remove ALL your printers!)
    4. Select the sign + to add again. Search for the printer, select it, and wait until the button 'Add' becomes available. Until it clicks.

If it is not difficulty then let us know your printer model, how it's connected with your Mac for additional troubleshooting.

I can print fine but can not analyze is the computer printer/scanner. Ideas? Suggestions?

You have installed the latest driver for Mac OS X 10.6?

If this isn't the case, uninstall the HP software by using the option of the scrubber:

    Applications > Hewlett-Packard > HP uninstalled

    Click on continue
Highlight your device in the left pane
Hold down the Ctrl and Opt Cmd and click on uninstall

Approve the alert to remove softwar any installed HP

You restart the mac and install the latest version of the software

  • 'All settings' menu inactive/gray on HPC5550 after upgrade Mac Snow Leopard

I've just updated for Mac OS X 10.5.8 to 10.6.7 and cannot print.  I get "Printer cartridge failure" messages whenever I try to print.  I only use the black ink cartridge and let the empty color cartridge slot, which never seemed a question before.

If you are using snow leopard and have the HP software before Snow Leopard (either from a CD not marked as compatible with 10.6 or you recently upgraded to Snow Leopard and had the software HP on your Mac before you upgrade - even if you made a standard from the old software uninstaller or installed new software on top of it) , you must uninstall the software using the "scrubber":

Go to Applications/Hewlett Packard / click Uninstall HP
    Click on continue
Highlight your device in the left pane
Hold down the Ctrl and Opt Cmd and click on uninstall< scrubber="">
There will be a pop up that asks if you are sure you want to uninstall all hp software. (At this point, if you continue, all HP printers you have installed will need to be reinstalled)
Click on continue and let it finish

    Restart your Mac

    Now run a software update.

Finally, download and install the "Full Featured" driver and software from the "Support & drivers" link at the top of this page.

  • I'm running on snow leopard and upgrade to el capitan. If I just upgrade, my data will be safe after finished or need to recover again?

I'm running on snow leopard and upgrade to el capitan. If I just update without backup (because I have no external HARD disk) data will generally be safe / normal after all as we updated iOS iPhone via OTA or need to recover the data again whenever we have updated to Mac OS?

If all goes to plan, your data will be safe.  At times things go bad for a backup is indispensable if you value your data.

    Ciao.

  • IPhoto 9.2.3 on Snow Leopard and direct upgrade to El captain

    Hi guys,.

I'm under iPhoto 9.2.3 on Snow Leopard and want to move to El captain.

I have read that I need iPhoto 9.6.1 until I upgrade to El Captain so I still want to use iPhoto.

Problem is that 9.2.3 is the latest available version of iPhoto on Snow Leopard, so I'm stuck here somehow.

I had a quick glance under the items purchased on the app store, but since my iLife came with a DVD and therefore not bought for download, I guess it will never reveal under the items purchased.

So I also assume that as soon as I upgrade to El Captain, iPhoto does not open and I won't be able to update iPhoto to 9.6.1

Does anyone have an idea on how I could always upgrade level to El captain and stick to iPhoto?

    Thank you!

A member of the family has iPhoto installed 9.6.1, so they could install it for you on your Mac?

Otherwise, you can refresh only with the help of the Support App Store, but they are very reluctant to help if iPhoto has not been purchased on the App Store.

One way to continue to work with iPhoto would be to create a clone your mac to an external drive bootable and boot into snow leopard since the external hard drive, if you wish to continue using iPhoto.

But in the long run, switch to Photos for Mac.  Apple improves Photos for Mac with each update of the system.  iPhoto is becoming less and less supported. Maps and locations are no longer supported in iPhoto 9.4.3 or earlier, Apple is more does not support printing for iPhoto projects, latest applications can appear more the iPhoto library in the media browser.

  • PSC 2510i AIO: NOT more than scan after upgrade to Snow Leopard

    Hello

After upgrading to Snow Leopard, I can't find my scan feature.

    I tried to different paths:

    1. install such as proposed through the Apple software update: no scanner not found, printing is working A-OK

    2. install HP_Installer_PSC2500_v9.7.dmg: does not work, gives errors.

Removed all and re-installed the Apple / drivers HP through software update

I've tested the HW, works fine, can sweep on the machine itself, but it is not a solution.

I am enough fan of this machine, 100% over the years in the home network.

    Does anyone have a suggestion?

    Appreciate your help :-)

    Thank you!

    Hey the HP team.

Just got an update of the printer HP by Apple and yes I can see the PSC2510i
    And Scan.

It crashed a few times, but I guess that the reports will reach the development team.

    I am happy!
I can disconnect and stop the Windows laptop...

AND!  not even an additional feature!

    Multiples of scanning.
It distinguises different objects, makes life much easier.

    Thanks again

  • Which printer works with 10.6.8, snow leopard and more advanced:

What printer will work well with system 10.6.8 v.1.1 and leave like lion, mountain lion, Yosemite and same El capitan? Work on snow leopard and have a MacBook Pro bought in 2010 and that works very well. Would I be able to upgrade to El capitan? Received a message a while back from Apple to install makes me believe it's possible. And no problem, the upgrade to all the other intermediate systems mentioned? Have been looking online for a reliable site for printer, but have not found a definitive.

    Please take a look at...

    https://www.Apple.com/OSX/how-to-upgrade/#hardware-requirements

Who should you help to see if your model is supported & see what features it supports.

Have you already 10.7, 10.8, 10.9 and 10.10 purchased in your Mac App store account? Apple has removed these from the store so you can't buy more. You can download them only as a "purchase".

You don't need them if your Mac can run 10.11, you can ignore the versions if you wish. Backup before you apply any update - just in case where do multiple backups

What about the printer - I don't know, sorry, you need to wait for others to answer or try Google, etc.

  • Cannot parse after upgrading to Snow Leopard - C4580

I have the HP all in one single C4580. No problems of printing or scanning up to that I've upgraded to Snow Leopard. I can still print but I can't scan unless I have used Image Capture. The printer does not appear in the window HP all in one device selector. I did set up the wizard again but my home network says that the server has failed and will not recognize the scanner. Anyone with the same problem?

    [title edited for clarity]

You still have the HP software for 10.5 installed.  It does not play well with 10.6.  Let's remove this way:

Go to Applications/Hewlett Packard / click Uninstall HP
    Click on continue
Highlight your device in the left pane
Hold down the Ctrl and Opt Cmd and click on uninstall
There will be a pop up that asks if you are sure you want to uninstall all hp software. (At this point, if you continue, all HP printers you have installed will need to be reinstalled)
Click on continue and let it finish

    Now run a software update.

Then, remove and reinstall the printer in System Preferences, Print & Fax.

You do not have the software now since Snow Leopard as well print & scan drivers built-in. scan from Preview apps or Image Capture. Scan from the front panel of the printer does not work yet.

  • J6450 will not scan since the upgrade to snow leopard

My J6450 will not scan since the upgrade to snow leopard. I can print fine but when I try and scan is says sorry, scanner could not be initialized (Scanner not found.)

You scan the front of the unit?  The software included in Sl does not support that.  Also note the HP Scan Pro included in the 10.5 software will not work with 10.6.  The 10.5 software and delete the print queue.  Make sure your 10.6 is update 10.6.1 and go here to download and install the HP software for 10.6 and Setup for your J6540.  You should be able to scan after that.

  • Snow Leopard and c3180

My c3180 now works when connected directly to a USB port on my computer, but I could not get the work via my Airport Extreme wireless.  (Worked flawlessly before the upgrade to Snow Leopard).  The system detects the wireless printer and I "added", but when I try to print it will return the message "the printer is offline."

I tried to remove and re-add, shut downs, resets, etc.

Thanks to an Airport Extreme wireless operation is supported with the new system and the pilot, or do I give up?

Despite the support of Apple rep saying he was not supported, I tinkered with it enough that she now works through Airport Extreme.  You don't know if the upgrade of firmware 7.4.2 played a role or not.  Thanks anyway.

I just upgraded to Snow Leopard (OS 10.8.2) of Lopard and I am now not able to launch Photoshop CS3 extended. I get a warning that says: to open "Adobe Photoshop CS3", you need to install a Java SE 6 runtime. You want to find and install a? But when I click on 'Install' tells me that it is currently unavailable. I need PS for work! What I can do!

  • After upgrading to Snow Leopard 10.6.5 most of the files does not open in CS3 Rosetta, grayed out menu items

After upgrading to Snow Leopard 10.6.5 most of the files will not open in CS3 and more menu items are gray,

like "Photoshop" and "quit Photoshop. I have to force it to quit. Don't know what version of CS3 since 'about this Mac' is not available.

But CS3 runs in mode of "Rosetta". I had done this years ago, my scanner would work.

I don't remember how I managed to do run in Rosetta and don't know how to do so he could operate normally, if necessary.

Change the name of the file or the plugin to have ~ as first character will prevent it to be loaded.

  • External hard drive to format HFS + (not OS x) and Time Machine boot

Hello, I have a MBP of 2014 (10.11.2).  Have a 2 TB external drive SG was NTFS but reformatted using THE HFS + and created two partitions of 1 TB (Yes, for my intended purpose in hindsight should have apparently formatted to a ready drive "Time Machine").  But just went with HFS + and Time Machine is ready to use one of the partitions to backup nonethelss.

Hmm... but 1) TM do not encrypt, and more important again, I wonder if TM 2) can perform full restore from a drive WITHOUT the OS X on the ext drive (no matter the format HFS + appropriate)?

(FYI, I received a warning when you use CCC related attempt to clone the drive to this disc hard ext, but received a warning "not re-bootable from any OS X").  Thank you!

HFS + Mac OS Extended is what should be the disk.
