Upgrade to Windows 10 from 8.1 to Bootcamp

Hello

I recently installed windows 8.1 on my macbook pro 15 retina using bootcamp. I have now an iso upgrade windows 10 on a USB and a product key. IM wondering now how the upgrade. Can I do it through the windows partition, or on the side of OS X using bootcamp? Also, if I do it through side windows, making the risk of having the upgrade wipe the OS X partition or will it stay within the windows partition? Mind you, I'm not very tech savvy, please use as many details as possible.

Thank you

What year/model is your Mac?

Please make sure that your Mac is listed in use 10 Windows on your Mac with Boot Camp - Apple Support, otherwise you will encounter problems of pilot.

You can do an Express upgrade - it's a quick and easy process. All programs and files will remain on the computer, there is no drive necessary and it takes about 10 minutes.

    Express Upgrade purchase

Type of upgrade Express in the box files and research programs in the start menu and click the Windows Anytime Upgrade.  From there, you can buy an upgrade from Starter to a higher version of Windows 7. Then you can enter your Express Upgrade product key and perform a simple upgrade. Online Anytime Upgrade is not available in all countries.

I'm getting an unmountable_boot_volume during the upgrade to Windows 7 from Windows Vista.  It occurs after Windows 7 software loads and restarts.  If I restart the computer, I have the option to start the upgrade to Windows 7 or Windows Vista.  If I select Windows Vista, the computer restarts without problem.  If I choose Windows 7 Upgrade, I get the blue screen of death with the unmountable_boot_volume error.  Of course, nothing wrong with the boot volume because Windows Vista starts without error.  The boot drive is 1.5 TB.  Any suggestions on how to accomplish the upgrade to Windows 7?

  • Can I upgrade to Windows 7 from Vista without having to install Vista Service Pack 1?

Several years ago, I made the huge mistake of update Win XP Pro to Win Vista Ultimate. In doing so, I immediately fell on so many questions that I spent more time each day trying to solve problems, to do the calculation and in some cases it was practically impossible to calculate all. It took about a dozen days before I have just abandoned, thrown my Windows machine into the closet and balance to a Mac. I've not looked back since.

Well, relatively recently I bought a new laptop from lenovo with the intentions of immediately wiping of Windows 7 and Linux installation, with the hope of avoiding the headaches that I had previously with Windows. However, just out of curiosity, I decided to try Windows 7 before cleaning off the coast of the laptop and I have not had any major problems with it. So, I'm now thinking that I can dust off that Vista machine (the one that was put in the closet), if I can only he move to Windows 7.
Almost immediately after plugging the thing, the headaches have come back with a vengeance.  I ran the Win 7 Upgrade Advisor, which basically said that everything was fine and that all that I had to do was to install Service Pack 1. Well, there is no service pack 1 in Windows update so I just downloaded the standalone file.  However, after trying to run the stand alone file, he said something to the effect that I can't because it is for installations of Windows language English, French, German and Spanish. He said in English, you the spirit, and it does because I have an English version of Windows.
I'm now thinking that there could be another language pack on my computer so I googled how to uninstall language packs. The only information I can find on how to uninstall the language packs is to insert the Windows installation disc. I don't have the installation disc. There are years I paid an arm and a leg for a software that was virtually unusable.
Is that anyway to upgrade to Windows 7 without having to deal with Vista and still not the upgrade price? I'm certainly not going to pay for the full version, as the last time, I would have probably had a better experience if I would have just thrown money into the fire. I don't understand why we should stop both to upgrade the operating system.
I paid for Windows Vista and now I'm ready to pay to upgrade to Windows 7 because Vista doesn't help, but I can't because the Windows Vista I paid for is once again, pretty useless.
Is anyway to avoid to jump through all these hoops or get all these headaches to put Windows 7 on my computer - upgrade price since I already have a useless Vista license?
For what it's worth, I don't want to be negative, because I'm just completely frustrated at a task that should be simple - not to mention that this is the second time I'll have to post because the first time he said the server was unavailable after all the effort to write this first. I am a disabled veteran, so I did not have money to be plopping down hundreds of dollars to check if the software works or not, then that cost when he is not eating. I am now looking to mitigate my loss of Vista upgrade to Windows 7 (at least a little), but still, Vista prevents me to do.

To remove the headache you cleaning 7 via BIOs Setup. You must then install 7 Service Pack 1 (if not included on the DVD), then the system drivers.

A complete guide to a Dell system is available here. It will take e slightly modified for a non-Dell system, but it will give you an idea. Note that I wrote each step out in its entirety with a lot if you do not have this or that to get here, so it's a much more long/more scary looking at first sight than it actually is.
Note: Vista is very stable (~ as stable as 7) when it's done via a clean installation and its Service Pack 1 and 2 service are installed before the drivers in the system (also mentioned in the guide). Via an upgrade, it's a nightmare that you met.

  • Upgrading to Windows 7 from Vista to get rid of the Virus?

I currently have VISTA, but I just got the CD to upgrade Windows 7 from my school, its necessities by my program (paid with the included activation key). I would like to format my whole hard drive and do a clean install of Windows 7 from scratch. One, I wanted to Windows 7 on the PC anyway and two, I don't know that a good formatting should help get rid of this annoying virus I had trouble with for so long. However, keep in mind that I have only a Windows 7 'Upgrade CD', not the 'full' Version It let me install 7 times I do the formatting, or it only allows me to 'upgrade' to a currently installed operating system? I really wouldn't want to format my drive together and get stuck without being able to install Windows 7. I hope my question is clear. Please let me know if I need to be more specific. Thank you!

Do not reformat the entire disk (leave the partition recovery and system, partitions reserved in place). Then, follow these instructions and be perpaired to activate by phone. Your only other option is to reinstall Vista and then you pass, this can do less annoying activation.

How to activate Windows 7 or Vista manually (activate by phone)
    1) click Start and in the search for box type: slui.exe 4
    (2) press the ENTER"" key.
    (3) select your "country" in the list.
    (4) choose the option "activate phone".
    5) stay on the phone (do not select/press options) and wait for a person to help you with the activation.

  • I've upgraded to Windows 7 from Vista on a Tablet PC and have since upgraded to Windows 8. Can I re-use the upgrade of Windows 7 on an another Vista PC?

I have a Tablet PC originally shipped with Vista installed. I've upgraded to Windows 7 disk 3 license and have since upgraded to Windows 8 with promo code I got when purchasing a new office.

Can I reuse the license to move an other PC from Vista to Windows 7, since the upgrade to Windows 8 would have been valid for a Vista upgrade?

Yes, you can transfer the license of Windows 7 on another computer. Why, because the basic license is Windows Vista.

  • HP Mini 1140NR Vivienne Tam: available alternative or upgrade to Windows XP from stock

Having obtained his computer BIOS password unlocked, she asked me if there was an alternative/upgrade to Windows XP that would go on the unit (HP Mini 1140NR Vivienne Tam Edition). Correctly, she heard that XP is no longer supported.

Somehow, I doubt that 10 Windows is running on the device and do not know if anyone has any success with another OS on this particular unit.

I tried a version of 'live' of LUBUNTU 16.04 a bootable USB key. However; It does not seem to start properly and also to present messages of needing a wireless driver that is missing.

Would appreciate any advice. The unit still works with XP (although there is no protection against viruses and is not easy to manage) and I don't want to make it unusable by playing with it without a reasonable chance of success.

    Hello;

Let me welcome you on the HP forums!

I read your post about an alternative to XP and wanted to help.

I'm not surprised Ubuntu 16.04 has problems on your PC - I've been running various Linux distributions for more than ten years, on a variety of desktop and laptop computers, and it has problems on my machines, as well.

My best guess is that no new Linux distribution will work on a computer laptop xp - era.  I have such a laptop and the latest version of Ubuntu that worked well was 8.04 - April 2008.  After that, they made changes to the kernel, and then later, changes in xorg, such that no new distributions would work well.  Finished restore XP and then later, the upgrade to Vista, then to Win7 - which worked very well!

Win10 is almost certainly NOT going to work, because it requires CPU features that were not widely available when the XP machines are out.  I tried it on two of my computers laptops xp - era and it would be not installed on one of them - but in all honesty, I also tried Win8 on both, and while that installed, it does not work well.

My suggestion for an alternative is Win7.  Even if Ms changed templates driver in Win7, they kept intact existing compatibility - that is why my computer laptop xp - era worked very well, even if it used xp video drivers, video drivers to no Win7.

Oh and once you get Win7 installed, download and install this to prevent MS to force an upgrade Win10 on you: RCMP | Never10

    Good luck

    Hello

There is no free upgrade to Windows 7.

There was a special offer for this a couple of years back; but this offer has expired for a long time.

Before purchasing Windows 7, follow these steps:

Go to your computer / computer laptop manufacturer Web site and see if Windows 7 drivers are available for your make and model computer / laptop.

If this is not available, Windows 7 will not properly work for you.

Run the "Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor.

Check if your specifications are compatible for Windows 7:

  • Cannot connect to internet after a reboot before you uninstall and then reinstall the network card. (After the upgrade to Windows 7 from Vista)

This problem started immediately after the upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate (32 bit) to Windows Vista Ultimate (32 bit).  Again, I want to remind that I never had this problem before installing Windows 7.

-After a reboot, I am presented with the impossible to connect the network indicator (yellow triangle with!) in the task bar.  (It was how I was welcomed after the installation of Windows 7 is said by the way).

-The only way I found to regain connectivity is to uninstall and reinstall the network via the device manager card, date at which the computer always successfully connects and remains connected until the next reboot.

    Network card: Realtek RTL8168C (P) / 811C (P) Family PCI - E Gigabit Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.20)
