Upgrade Windows 10 + installation clean + new SSD

Hello

My situation is that I have windows 7 Home premium OEM installed and running on a hard drive of my laptop.

My windows 10 upgrade is ready to run. (Probably, it does not matter, but I have already improved

front and rear devulcanization to windows 7).

I intend to buy a new SSD and want to end up with a clean windows 10 install on the SSD and use

my current hard drive as secondary storage.

I've read other questions on this matter, but sometimes the answers that you have upgraded to windows 10

on the old hard drive first, and then perform a clean installation on the SSD, and sometimes I read that

you need to install windows 7 on SSD first and then upgrade to windows 10 from there.

So which of these two options should I choose?

Thanks in advance, Gilles

Hi Gilles,.

Thank you for visiting Microsoft Community.

According to the description, you intend to buy a new SSD and want to perform a clean installation of Windows 10 on it.

Certainly, I understand your concern.

I want to provide you with the information that you must first buy the new SSD. Then install Windows 7 on it, activate it, and then upgrade to Windows 10.

And even if you want to perform a new installation of Windows 10, you can do it.

Please refer to the article below:

  • Installation Windows 8.1 on new SSD?

    Hello

My laptop came with Windows 7.  I bought the upgrade of Windows 8 and now Windows 8.1 is released I will install it.  My laptop is a bit slow and I get an SSD.
I have a question, can I download Windows 8.1 and burn it to a DVD and then start and install it on a whole new SSD? I'm not sure that I heard him being made available to the store so I will need to have windows at first?
    Thank you!

You could always use the upgrade wizard when Windows 8.1 becomes available and create a. ISO file that allows you to install it.

    Please note:

To install a Windows 8 upgrade version, you must already have Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, or Windows XP installed on your PC.

If you have formatted the drive until the upgrade of Windows 8 version has been installed, you will not be able to use your upgrade product key to activate Windows 8. To activate Windows 8, you will need to install your previous version of Windows, and then reinstall Windows 8. Help with the activation process, contact technical support.

  • Upgrade to windows 10 on a new SSD without losing files

    Hello

So I have here is my situation:

-A got a new SSD, makes my old hard drive in an external.
-Already installed on my new SSD of things, and my old HD has everything on my old computer.

So I would like to know if I could:

-install the windows 10 update on my old HD, without calling on my old computer.
-install the new windows 10 (not the upgrade but after I installed on my old HD), on my new SSD without losing files and programs already on it.

    That's all, thank you

I explained to him that you can store everything, including the image on the hard drive, then return it to the outer shell to start the imaging boot disk to apply the image to the SSD.

However if you do not want to remove the SSD, it is possible using startup disk Macrium made on another PC to boot the PC with attached externally, save the image partition system and the OS on another partition (shrunk if necessary c using The Partition Wizard CD boot), transfer the data to the SSD and then apply the image to the SSD after the removal of its partition using Macrium or Partition Wizard.

  • How to install Windows 7 on a new SSD, Dell Windows 7 DVD

I have a new SSD for my workstation Precision 7510.  I need to install windows 7 on it from the DVD provided by Dell.  The DVD has no drivers and so when I try and install, I get a message about "the installation media does contain not all drivers" and the installation will not allow me to continue.  Keep in mind that my new SSD has no partition recovery or in fact any partition.  I have a drivers Cab file and I also have this unpacked on a USB key, but it does not appear as a disk when I "Browse".  Neither the new SSD - t - there no partitions...

Do I need to format the SSD drive first?

Could someone tell me where I can get the drivers and all that forms, they must be in?  In other words, I need to burn it to a DVD, and what would the structure of directory?  Do I have to download all the drivers separately - there are a number of EXEs on the support site, or can I use the Dell Enterprise site CAB file?

You can clone the installation for the SSD, provided that the SSD is large enough to accommodate the installation to be cloned.

See http://www.ssdfreaks.com/content/664/how-to-clone-hdd-to-ssd-with-windows-7s-own-software or (easier) use a trial version of Acronis True Image Home 2012.

Note that, immediately after cloning, you must stop and unplug the original installation. The disc can be reconnected once the DSS started successfully.

  • Symbol ban after new installation on new SSD

    Hello

A few months ago, my original HD failed (MacBook Pro (13-inch, mid 2012)).

I decided to replace it myself with a SSD instead.

the thing is, every time you start, I get the symbol ban for a few seconds until sometimes for hours, but once the start is done - everything works perfectly.

tried to replace the disc SSD 3 times now - the same result after each new installation of recovery of the internet.

Currently, using SanDisk Ultra II 240 GB.

    Any suggestions?

    Thank you!

The symbol you see means that the computer did not find a bootable system disk and sometimes occurs when you have not set up a default startup disk. Go to System Preferences, and then select Startup disk. You should see your SSD in the window. Select it after you unlock the preferences.

The strange thing is that, if this is your problem, it must be solved in seconds - certainly not hours. This would suggest there is something more complex. You say that you tried to replace the SSD 3 times. Different drives? Different manufacturers?

    Hello:

See if, by your own plain W8.1 installation media, you can reinstall Windows 8.1.

The only downside is the OEM product key in the BIOS.

However, there are workarounds like the one shown below to find out how to get the product key in the BIOS to work on your new installation...

  • System Restore blocks never, never complete Windows day & installation of new programs gel updates.

    Greetings!

After a scheduled update of Windows Vista, automatic updates has stopped working, among many other things:

In manual mode, the progress bar hangs at 0% of the first update and never shows progress.

When I try to shut down the PC (HP Pavilion s3241la computer desktop Slimline), the same story: set automatic start installation, but with no progress and in the end, I have to turn off the PC the way lasts.

In Control Panel-> system of-> System Protection, I see no point of system restore, the system maintains "research" for always for these points but poster ever one and HARD drive shows no activity; the console "System Restore... ' is not too available, this is the button is grayed.

No matter what program I try to install or to upgrade never ends, facilities simply wants.

Help! How can I solve this?, the system is a production unit & it is not easy to stop all activities to perform a reinstallation from scratch.

    Best regards.

    Greetings & happy new year...
After you use all 3 methods to solve the malfunction of the system, I am sorry to say that none worked.

Method 1 makes no difference once the antivirus went.

Method 2 has found no breach of integrity or something similar and rolling back to a previous restore point did not help also.

Method 3 turned the system in a very unstable state, and at the end, I was forced to do a full backup of my data and restore the computer to the BONES of the original factory configuration.

Thanks anyway, and I hope that this situation will never happen because there is no easy way to solve it.
    Best regards.

  • Could not restore Windows 8 on my new SSD

    Hi all

    I installed a new 500 GB SSD on my Inspiron 14Z 5423.

I tried to use the three months USB drive, I created there with Dell backup and restore to re-create and rebuild the (clean) software on my laptop.

But the thing won't work, among other things, I get a message of 0 xC0000001. This means that the USB drive is corrupt? I also tried with a SATA cable using the old HD connected via USB. This is because the SSD is built in 'and the recovery drive deos who don't know '?

Because I can't do anything with my laptop I can't recreate the recovery USB disk, I suppose that a (XPS12) Dell recovery disk will not work because it's another machine, is that correct?

Would a Windows.ISO engraved on a DVD work? I've got a DVD in my laptop.

    Please notify.

  • Pavilion g7 1070US: installation of new SSD

I'm helping a friend with a HP Pavilion g7 1070US laptop. His original hard drive crashed and we bought a PNY 960 GB SSD drive to replace its old WD 500 GB. We were able to restore his old Win 7 because while trying to create a USB startup device the MS site says our OEM license. So we bought a new Win 10 license with a USB and when you try to start the message; "Core security check failed" appears, and the computer restarts then cycling in the same message. I tried to boot from another key USB and DVD ROM created by MS media creator but the same warning message appearing.

Later we have formatted the drive outside the laptop with a SATA adapter.  Reset us the BIOS by default. The drive is recognized by the internal BIOS diagnostic and test memory was also executed.  Both pass.  However, whenever a start is attempted the system responds with a BSOD and the message; "The verification of the security kernel failure".  All the world is facing a situation difficult always. I even bought an old copy of Win 7 Home edition and the installation CD has the same problem.

    Any suggestions...
