    Hello cdrudd, welcome.

We start back up your data first, if you have a Windows Vista recovery or install CD/DVD, try this:

    1. connect an external drive or flash drive
    2. place the CD of Windows Vista in the status bar, and close
3 boot the disk and choose "repair my computer".
    4 choose "Command Prompt"
    5. type the following command:

    CD c:

    | Come in

    users of CD

    | Come in

    dir

    | Come in

From here, take note of what your user name folder name. Then type...

    copy c:\users\yourusername e:\users

    | Come in

    * ' e' will be the letter of your external device. It could be F, G, H or so now (according to which drive letter was already used)

Once the copy is complete, you can pretty much use the following commands to keep the rest of the data:

copy c:\program files e:\program files -copy everything in the folder program files

You can use the dir command to view the contents of a directory. Then, you can use the cd command to navigate to a directory.

Let us know if you have a copy of your user data backup job. Please let us know if you have any questions.

    Hi S RAGAN,

I suggest to perform the clean boot on your computer and check.

From your computer by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs so that you can determine if a background program is interfering with your game or program. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot".

To perform a clean boot on a computer, follow these steps.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click on continue.

    3. under Selective startup, clear the check box load startup items.

    4. click on the Services tab, select the hide all Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable all.

    5. click on OK.

    6. When you are prompted, click on restart.

    7. after the computer starts, check if the problem is resolved.

Please follow the system in the boot environment. If the problem does not occur, it indicates that the problem is related to an application or a service, we have disabled. You can use the MSCONFIG tool again to reactivate the disabled one by one element to find the culprit.

If your issue is resolved, follow the how to determine what is causing the problem section in KB article to narrow down the exact source.

  • My CD-ROM/DVD-Rom drive & the Bison Webcam built into my laptop. Does not work after I upgraded from Vista home premium to Windows 7 Home premium.

My readers Optiarc DVD - RW AD-7530 ATA Device DVD/CD-ROM & the Bison Webcam built into my laptop. Does not work after I upgraded from Vista home premium to Windows 7 Home premium.
Although of course, the CD-ROM drive worked during the upgrade.
I noticed that when I turn firstly on the laptop, the last two lines of the front entry from Windows 7 are the following.
PXE - E6i:Media Test Failure, Check Cable
PXE - MOF: Exit PXE Rom
During the audit of each Properties in Device Manager devices", I learned that they both work correctly.  In the list in the printers and the @Devices the only Webcam shown is also a "USB 2.0 Camera"
    Can someone help me please?
    Best regards
    John

    Besides what abdelhak says:

The message of PXE boot that you receive when you start your computer has nothing to do with your CD/DVD-Rom drive. Your computer uses a PXE boot method to attempt to load Windows from a location on your network. Since you do not have this configuration, it is safe to ignore it. If it slows down the startup time of your system, contact your manufacturer and ask them for instructions on how to "disable PXE Network Boot of the BIOS.

  • upgrade windows vista to windows 08/07/10?

Hello, I am a user of Belgium, I bought a Dell laptop already 7 years (3.4 index performance, 2 GB of RAM, 32-bit operating system, the OEM active... windows user thanks to a program at the school of nursing...) with a life spanning the license of windows vista professional. Install, I had to ask someone else. Now, after 7 years, it still works but lately, I'm getting mixed messages of eg. Youtbe that they no longer support 'my old browser' and they'll use windows 10 now. Try to upgrade to windows 10 failed horribly, but I discovered by accident that I must first upgrade to windows 7, before I could move forward? And besides, they ask the installation disc (I have more...), product code?, etc... Do I have to chuck this laptop prehistoric in the tray and stars all over with a price attached? Thnaks a lot...

    Hello

You buy Windows 10, as there is no free upgrade to Vista 10.

Or you buy 7 or 8.1, depending on what you want to do, in order to get the free update.

But somewhere in between, you will have to buy an operating system.

But first make sure that Dell supports and provides drivers for 7, 8.1, or 10.
