Upgrading CPU HP Pavilion G4-1104dx

Greetings,

Has anyone found how identify the card motherboard and chipset and the best CPU to install in laptop Pavilion G4-1104dx?

The HP service manual lists 15 compatible Intel processors!

Mine has the B940 Pentium running at 2.00 GHz w / 2 mb L3, I can't imagine that the motherboard and chipset supporting the Pentium would also support the core i7 - 2640 M 2.8 HZ with 4 MB of cache L3 (the replacement of CPU listed higher up in the list for this model).  But it would be nice to discover these facts without having to disassemble the laptop simply to identify the motherboard and it's chipset before having the cpu to install.

I tried looking for motherboard HP and only got features comprehensive product specifications;

Name of the prod: g4-1104dx

Prod No.: LW233UA

Processor: Intel Pentium Processot B940 2.0GHz

All other product standards for the devices but no plug internal mobo.

Someone knows a resource reliable specifications?

Thank you fellow nerds.

Hi, 2nerdee:

I does not have your model, nor ever upgraded a laptop processor because as you can see, it is not an easy thing to do.

The best I can do is to inform you of what processors listed in manual work expected (no will) based on the specifications.

Based on the specifications of the processor of your laptop, the B940 is supported in the Intel 6 series chipset.

This means that any processor Intel dual core running on the same chipset expected also be supported.

Those are the:

Intel® Core i7 - 2640M 2.80 GHz (turbo SC up to 3.50-

Processor GHz) (4: 0 - MB L3 cache, dual core, 35 W)

Intel Core i7 - 2620M 2.70 GHz (turbo SC up to 3.40-

Processor GHz) (4: 0 - MB L3 cache, dual core, 35 W)

Intel Core i5 - 2410M 2.30 GHz (turbo SC up 2.90-

Processor GHz) (3: 0 - MB L3 cache, dual core, 35 W)

Intel Core i5 - 2430M 2.40 GHz (turbo SC until 3.00-

Processor GHz) (3: 0 - MB L3 cache, dual core, 35 W)

i5 - 2450 M 2.50 GHz (turbo SC up to 3.10 GHz)

processor (3, 0 MB L3 cache, dual core, 35 W)

Intel Core i5 - 2520M 2.50 GHz (turbo SC up to 3,20-

Processor GHz) (3: 0 - MB L3 cache, dual core, 35 W)

Intel Core i5 - 2540M 2.60 GHz (turbo SC until 3.30-

Processor GHz) (3: 0 - MB L3 cache, dual core, 35 W)

Processor Intel Core i3 - 2370 M 2.40 GHz (3.0-

MB L3 cache, dual core, 35 W)

Processor Intel Core i3 - 2350 M 2.30 GHz (3.0-

MB L3 cache, dual core, 35 W)

Processor Intel Core i3 - M 2.20 GHz (3.0-2330

MB L3 cache, dual core, 35 W)

Processor Intel Core i3 - 2310 M 2.10 GHz (3.0-

MB L3 cache, dual core, 35 W)

Use the Intel processor comparison tool to compare the specifications of processors and compatible chipsets.

I've linked upward your current one with the supported processor higher.

http://Ark.Intel.com/compare/53464, 55626

Then, when you click the compatible products, you see the chipsets on what they run are the same.

http://Ark.Intel.com/products/53464/Intel-Core-I7-2640M-processor-4m-cache-up-to-3_50-GHz

http://Ark.Intel.com/products/55626/Intel-Pentium-processor-B940-2m-cache-2_00-GHz

Then check the driver of your laptop page to see if the BIOS updates are required to install a processor better.

Read the release notes for each revision of BIOS.

I don't see that the BIOS updates are necessary to install one of the supported processors.

I am looking to upgrade to a 2.5 GHz-3.7 GHz processor but not sure that my system can handle it, because one I have currently is only 1.48 GHz, so it makes me think that my pc will not be able to handle it because it is so small, and because it is an all-in-one computer , so I don't know if my cpu can even be changed. The current CPU is a Pentium B950 (low-end).

I checked the manual (here: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03538328.pdf) and I am wanting to move to a processor Intel Core i5 - 2540 M 2.60 GHz, which is one of the options shown in the manual for this laptop.

    Hello

Firstly all "all processors Intel Core i5 - 2540 M 2.60 GHz" are the same, and secondly, it is safe to install on your machine i5 - 2540M, because:

    (a) you BIOS is up to date,

    (b) old CPU and new CPU are on the same "boat" as shown in the following table:

    http://h10032.www1.HP.com/CTG/manual/c01550108.PDF

After you install the cpu on my hp pavilion dv5 1130ep amd turion laptop after a few minutes, freezes or restarts without warning, turning a 124 blue screen error code that indicates a possible hardware failure.

I ran other software of test (prime95) cpu indicating also equipment failure "illegal sumout" on one of the cores.

It described does not with the previous processor.

Meanwhile, the seller sent me another cpu but the blue screen error remains the same, although the error when running prime95 this time is 'expected 0.5 less than 0.4"also on one of the cores.

Have also reset the default bios with no result.

Ran Windows 7 memory test without error to report.

This does not occur with the original cpu (AMD Athlon 64 X 2 QL - 62-2, 0GHz)

Error occurs more quickly when I play a game or just simply restarts without any special provisions.

Am I missing something, or the two cpu is damaged?

    Thanks in advance

Yes, the manual says that CPU should work either discrete or integrated graphics type motherboard. Laptop processor upgrades, are at best, a roll of the dice. It is very unlikely, you will get 2 defective processors, but eBay sellers of CPU are notorious for palming off defective processors.

I could try a plus from a seller in different before throwing in the towel.

    Hey @Suv96 ,

    Welcome to the HP Forums!

I see that you are looking to upgrade the processor of your laptop.

    Short answer: No.

Long answer: maybe. The processor of your laptop is integrated into the motherboard. The motherboard contains a tattoo with the service ID, product number and serial number of your laptop that is required to install an operating system. Required software for motherboard tattoo are the property of HP. There are ways to get around that, but for obvious reasons, I can't recommend that you do this.

Another problem is that the GPU is also on the motherboard. With the help of a dual GPU / laptop switchable graphics requires drivers directly from HP. find the drivers for it won't be easy. You will be able to look up your specific model and have its pilots listed in one easy place.

If you want to search for this more you can find the steps you need to take to physically replace the motherboard in the following guide: HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC - Maintenance and Service of Guide on page 106. You will notice the replacement pages possible motherboard with their numbers for you to order replacement parts. When changing the motherboard (if you manage to get it tattooed) I do not recommend the use of your recovery DVDs. DVD recovery usually contain the chipset drivers specific to your model and may not work properly on another motherboard.

So as you can see, it is technically possible, but more often the time, hassle and money involved, it is not true in most cases.

I hope this information is useful.

I bought a "e6600 duo core wolfdale 3.06 hz" and then realized that these two chips are not the same. The difference is one is the first is a 65nm core 2 duo and the wolfdale is a core duo 45nm. Both are socket 775.

My question is, is my mother leonite capable of running the e6600 wolfdale core duo? What I found I'm leaning towards no. If this isn't the case, any suggestion would be appreciated. Is there not a return policy on the cpu.

    Hello

You're leaning in the right direction, and I'll give you a little more of a helping hand.

Here is the link to the page sheet of motherboard for your PC.

Basically, only "E" series processors that are supported are the Conroe family.  Wolfdale is not supported.

The best processor, you can upgrade to that is this:

  • Upgrading CPU for HP Pavilion dv9730nr notebook Entertainment

I'm looking for the best/most fast Intel processor to upgrade a HP Pavilion dv9730 Entertainment notebook. The motherboard is a Quanta 30CB. Aware of the processor is an Intel Core 2 Duo T5450 1.66 GHz. I am trying to upgrade this laptop for my grandson to play some of the new games of intense action. I looked at different forums, but most of them is at least two years. I also watched the service for laptops manual series dv9700. The top page in their list processor is the Intel Core 2 Duo T7700 2.4 GHz. Since most of these lists are old, I want to know if there are faster processors that are compatible with the laptop and a motherboard safely.

Only, you are sure to install a processor originally proposed by HP on this range of laptops. As noted above, it is not really a mother Quanta is a motherboard HP, full owner. There is also no way to improve the system without radical changes in case of cooling and engineering tips; the only CPU cooler is the original factory unit unless you do another and even in this case, the tight fit limits what you can really do. The fsb and the power must remain the same, as well.

  • HP Pavilion g6-1365sl: upgrade CPU of my HP Pavilion g6-1365sl

Hi everyone, I would like to upgrade my HP Pavilion 1365sl g6 (B960) processor.

Research on the web, I found different maintenance and Service of Guide for g6, in the report below:

http://h10032.www1.HP.com/CTG/manual/c03094322 (this is the first time since the HP website)

    http://www.HP.com/CTG/Manual/c02770249.pdf (from google on HP.com)

    http://h10032.www1.HP.com/CTG/manual/c03233548.PDF (as above)

    http://www.HP.com/CTG/manual/c03593041.PDF (as above)

Now my question is... which is good?...

I know the second (c02770249) relate not that my CPU is probably for the excluded, but the others...?

Editions do not match each other... I'm confused... What's the difference?...

I guess that the correct edition is the c03094322 (the first one) simply because the touchpad is centralized at the difference of the other two (and because that is provided by the site)... then... the maximum installable CPU is Intel® Core™ i7 - 2640M?

It's okay?... What is the difference between these editions?

    Thank you in advance!

You actually have the best motherboard in the series and it will load from 2d gen Intel Core CPU, 'Sandy Bridge', with chip living bridge wide that is switchable graphics. Up to i7 - 2640 M. your radiator is the same one used on the i7 models isn't a matter of removing the processor, substituting the better you want, locking it, apply the thermal paste and put everything back together. OK slight oversimplification.

    See pages 79-85.

  • Pavilion DV7 Upgrade CPU

I have a PC entertainment DV7 Dv7 (2273cl). Recently, I had to change the motherboard and learned how to make so that I might also be able to upgrade the processor. Looking in the maintenance manual, authorized processors include a CPU that I bought on Ebay (Q9100). The Q9100 both my original T6600 CPU are all two registered in the maintenance manual, so I think the Q9100 would work in my computer.

I installed the new processor and it fit perfectly. But once I had everything back together, the computer would start up, but I would get blink codes by the capslock and above the number pad of a single wink separated by 3 seconds, which, looking around, seems to be that the CPU does not code.

So is there a way to get this CPU to work? It's a quad core vs a dual core. Do I need to Flash the bios to a higher version prior to make it work? Startup will not go far enough to bring me to any type of screen or anything that would allow me to get this working.

Of course, I'd like to upgrade one dual core to a quad core.

Any help would be most appreciated. When I went back to my old processor, I couldn't start the computer and had to take it apart and put it all together again to make it work, so I don't want to tinker around too much in the computer, I do not have a route safe to go ahead with.

    Thank you

    Jon Fernandez

In addition, I have discovered how to find my current BIOS version which is the following:

    F.46 25/08/2011

    Thank you

If this is the case I would avoid upgrading CPU completely... too much chance of bricking it.
