  • Windows Vista activation - useless online FAQ

I have Windows Vista. Recently, my computer has a catastrophic accident and I had to restore it to factory settings. Now, I get a message to "activate Windows" I entered the correct code from the sticker on my computer several times, but I always get one or two error messages, my code is "invalid" or "in use". I tried to do telephone activation support FAQ suggests, but the window "Activate Windows now" don't give me that option. The only listed option is to activate online, and when I try told me my code is invalid or in use. The code is correct, I checked it three times.

To analyze and solve problems for Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool
(download and save to the desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
    Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the button continue, which will produce the report.
To copy the report in your response, click the button copy in the tool (ignore the error at this stage), and then paste (using r-click and paste or Ctrl + V) in your response.

  • MSCONFIG, Windows Vista and Sony Online Entertainment.

I am a player of the online game Everquest 2. Recently, after an addition by SOE for the game, I started getting the following errors:

"Application has failed memory while requesting _ bytes," followed by bytes available and bytes free, who then would freeze the game software and requires a reboot.

I started my research on the plateau SOE and it turns out it's a long-standing problem (2007) which affects different people at different times. After you send a DXDiag and MSInfo to a TSR SOE, I got this.

"To make sure that you are not all programs running on your taskbar windows task that could use your memory, you should try running your system under a clean boot, because this would prevent you all hidden loading programs."

    To turn off background programs:

    1. Select the button START.
    2. Select RUN, then type "msconfig" (for Vista, type msconfig in the search at the bottom of the Start Menu bar)
    3. press OK
    4. Select the STARTUP tab.
    5. click the DISABLE ALL button.
6 valve apply and then OK. Restart the computer and repeat the game. »

Now I'm here and I have read that it is not always a good idea and can lead to bigger problems.

    My questions are:

    Is this a good idea?
IF I close everything works in the background I am close my anti-virus full Suite. Of course he uses the memory in the background, so do I stopped him because TSR David told me?
Finally, when we look through the list of MSCONFIG, there are elements of MANY Microsoft Corporation listed on the services tab. I guess the question is what IS supposed to be at all services and the tabs of start-up and advice on how to analyze and distinguish the good from the bad, please.

    Suggestions please, if any.

  • Windows 7: games online lag & defective live tv unstable/record live tv playback (due to changes in priorities/Planner win7?)

Since installing Windows 7 ultimate, I have 2 problems (compared to XP or even Vista):

    (1) online gaming is lag; the other players seem to move like ghosts, somehow jerky and jerky, but my ping is completely normal (low) and fps are good, too.

    (2) direct TV experience is worse now:
When I watch a dvb - t transmission and switch to another app that I have at the same time (like total Commander, instant messaging, Notepad, etc.) I hear audio clicks and get video abandonment. The same is true when I'm not watching a transmission, but when I save it. The recordings are defective (video and audio dropouts).

However, existing good records can be read without any problem, even when you switch like crazy between all sorts of substantive programmes and lots of tabs in my web browser. With these good records I get no problem whatsoever (for example: files in windows XP). It is only when I try to record something in Windows 7 that I get these questions.

I have used many different programs (from dvbviewer for progdvb for dvb dream to Windows Media Center). The problem is always the same.

This did not happen in XP, however.
Under XP, I can switch to background programs and switch between tabs in the opera 100 without being any 'clicks' or the number of drop-outs in audio/video on live television.

The same is true for Vista, although it is slightly worse than with XP.

In Windows 7, interactive use of programs seems to have a strong (and negative) impact on live TV.

My system (not aware at all, but otherwise very good work, in XP, Vista, Windows 7 and Linux):

    -Sempron 2600
    -1 GB OF RAM
    -Geforce 3 TI 200:
I know: not supported by Windows 7, BUT:
-J' also have an ATI HD4650 here, which IS supported by Windows 7
and who doesn't IS NOT IMPROVE anything!

Since my Windows 7 installation is quite recent and not yet activated, I did not install a lot, especially any antivirus that could (maybe) deteriorate the performance of the system.

Apart from live tv playback/record and games Windows 7 IS (!) quickly on my old system.

In addition, take into account that the games I'm talking about are OLD, so my geforce3ti200 is quite enough for such an old game, like quake2 or quake1. - And as I said, I also have a HD4650 well supported by the ITA which does NOT improve lag problems in games!

I tried to disable nagle algorithm (as suggested somewhere), I played with registry settings like 'systemresponsiveness '; I also disabled the multimedia class Scheduler - all these things you will find in these many threads any lag in windows 7!

Does not really - or only partially:
Deactivation of the multimedia class scheduler service help (a little) but at the price of having audio problems:
When switching between the different programs of the audio player (e.g. windows media player or vlc) has now audio dropouts that wouldn't happen when the multimedia class Scheduler service is running.

Therefore, this solution is not ideal.

Since I also tried to use wifi instead of ethernet, external sound usb instead of edge, different servers etc, and since there is that interference between the task of switching and stability of live tv, I come to this conclusion:

This must be a timer problem. Something in the Task Scheduler in windows 7 and/or priority system was changed, when comparing it to XP or Vista.

I see that there are more settings in the registry, as in:

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Multimedia\SystemProfile\Tasks\Audio]

    Where it looks like:

    'Planning category '=' Medium '.
    "SFIO"="Normal priority".
    "Background only"="True".
    'Priority' = dword:00000006
    "Rate of clock" = dword:00002710
    'GPU priority' = dword:00000008
    "Affinity" = DWORD: 00000000

So I'm expecting setting could something in a different way here (?) have a significant impact...

    Last question:
Considering the number of threads (when searching via google) all delays in windows 7 games, is Microsoft aware of this problem - and Microsoft offer a fix, a hotfix or another type of solution?

    Thank you, egman

  • Xbox 360 questions (Modern Warefare 2) online

Hello, I request assistance with my Xbox 360 and Windows 7 online game, I would ask on Xbox.com, but they may not appear too willing to help.  Anyway, I recently had the home edition of Windows Vista, and my online game has worked very well.  I then upgraded to Windows 7 and everything went downhill.  After playing MW2 (Modern Warfare 2), I click on finding a match, it works generally the first few times, then after I exit a game, he finds no match.  Sometimes, it works just after that I have first turn on my Xbox!  Sometimes a friend can't join my games, or the Xbox Live party!  I have forwarded ports 53, 80, 88, 3074' on the port protocol.  My NAT type is (open) and I have my size MTU to 1365.  I did everything that I've seen other people say.  It is that I did not did nothing that everyone says to do.  I sent my Xbox IP port, have all the correct information, the function "Test Xbox Live connection" my Xbox Live is "on" no NAT problem.  I have my connection to the Local network and my connection Wireless Bridge.  I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate.  I tried to restart my router and restore to the factory settings.  If there is anything that I did not, please tell me.  I also uPnP 'Active '.

    Thanks in advance

  • Vista SP2 32-bit, Windows Update continues to install KB979683 and then re-list as a new "important update available"

Automatic updates of Windows installs KB979683, and then in the next update checking, it is listed under "important update available". He repeated every day for three weeks.

Under 'View Update History', he shows again and again KB979683 installation successfully.

Under 'updates installed, he said, "no update is installed on this computer". So I can't download it manually on my desktop, uninstall the update, restart in safe mode and reinstall manually. Also, when I tried to install manually in safe mode without deleting the file, I received the error 0X8007043c.

I tried stopping the windows update service, and then delete all files in C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution > DataSstore and C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution > download, then by restarting the service, but it did not help.

I've updated and run Malwarbytes Anti-Malware 1.46 and AVG 9.0.829, but found no threat.

I use windows, as well as automatic daily scans with AVG firewall (manual scans with Malwarebytes: daily).

I don't know if it's important, but I'm under IE8, version 8.0.6001.18882, 256 bit zero versions updates. I have seen a recent update was available for IE8 (KB982381) but when you try to run manually, he said that the update does not apply to my system.

    Help, please!

    Thank you, Todd.

  • When is MS stop support Vista service pact 2 and a few questions about the upgrade to the new version

    Hello comrades,.

I have a few questions and concerns, and hope that you guys can share with me some lights here.

    1. What is MS stop supports the Covenant of service about the update of windows Vista 2 / other online support?

    2. my computer is vista based 32 bit, ultimate version. I heard that there are a lot of wonderful things about Windows 8. Should I move to Windows 8, or should I actually wait awhile then buy a new computer with Windows 8 64 bit attached?

Honestly, it's a question that has been bothering me for some time. But my laptop is 4 GB of RAM, 1920 x 1080 HD display, 300 GB HARD drive at 5400 RPM (cost me a lot - it's a SONY) and have been works very well even with vista, the operating system highly complainted by many others. I think it would be a waste to buy a new computer, including the so-called net-books and i - PAD, I know, they are beautiful and sexy, but looking at their record, I was speechless. Yet knowing 32bits was maximum and MS has already announced that they stopped support for Vista SP1, consider that SP2 is expected online.

    3. how long do you 32-bit based can last? Should I increase the RAM of 4 GB to 6 GB and upgrade to Windows 8?

    4. How about 64-bit based of the future? Or is it true that most of the computer manufacturing starts in the future these application device of the base (not the real computer-driven software)?

    5. or should I forget it all, wait 3-4 years, until my laptop would be a museum piece, then buy a desktop computer which monitor and hard drive is all separated, knowing it is the best technique for the $s and phone for mobile computing laptop use there?

I understand that this is somewhat a personal decision, but I really appreciate you guys Preview on the path of the operating system! Thank you

Yes it will work to buy a copy upgrade of Windows 8.   This is a custom installation rather than an upgrade in place once you switch between 32-bit and 64-bit.  However you can still save money by buying the upgrade license.

More important is that all the drivers you need will be available.  Your computer manufacturer will not write drivers for Windows 8 because the computer has been out of production far too long.

Windows 8 is a significant departure from previous versions and I suggest that you upgrade to Windows 7 If you are tired of Vista or wait until you buy a new computer before Windows 8.  You read the discussions on the forums of Windows 8 CP.  At this point, there are many critics of Windows 8 due to the removal of the Start button and Start Menu.  Many people dislike having to rely on style Metro Screen start for many things.  It is becoming a major concern.

To navigate to the Windows 8 CP forums use in the middle of the dropdown at the top of this forum page.

Note:  Microsoft has not announced that there will be copies upgrade for Windows 8.  Microsoft has already stopped providing copies of upgrade of Office is not yet clear what will be available for 8.

  • I have 32 bit vista family premium on my laptop, but need 64-bit.

I can't uninstall my current pre-installed program as I have no disk. What should I do?

    Hello

If you are currently running a 32-bit version of Windows, you can only perform an upgrade to another 32-bit version of Windows. Similarly, if you run a 64-bit version of Windows, you can perform an upgrade to another 64-bit Windows version.

If you want to move from a 32-bit version of Windows to a 64 bit version of Windows Vista, or vice versa, you will need to back up your files, then select custom during installation of Windows Vista. Then, you will need to restore your files and reinstall your programs. For more information, see installing and reinstalling Windows Vista.

For detailed information on installing and upgrading versions 32-bit and 64-bit Windows, go to the choice of Installation for Windows Vista (32-bit)or choice of Installation for Windows Vista (64-bit) online.

    Notes
    • To install a 64-bit version of Windows on a computer that is running a 32-bit version of Windows, you'll need to start, or boot, your computer using a 64-bit Windows installation disc.

    • If you start your computer by using a 64-bit Windows installation disc, but your computer is not capable of running a 64-bit version of Windows, you will see an error in the Windows Boot Manager. You will need to use a disc to install 32-bit Windows instead.

You must have a Windows Setup disc.

  • Impossible to delete some files on windows vista (read-only cannot be deselected, either)

Right... excuse me for grammar mistakes, I'm Dutch. So there you go.

I am a user of Windows Vista on a HP Pavilion Entertainment PC. I uninstalled World of Warcraft yesterday, and there are two files that I can't remove, no matter what I try. If I want to delete them, I first get this:

    http://img691.imageshack.us/img691/483/eerstdit.PNG

Can I get something I can't print screen for a reason, telling me to give my permission as an administrator of the laptop. What I'm doing. Then, I get this:

    http://img691.imageshack.us/img691/1054/endandit.PNG

Remains and stays and stays (you get the picture), no matter how many times I click on 'Retry '. Of course, when I press cancel, it stops completely, and the files are still there.

== Fun facts (or something like that) =.

    http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/7725/mapwb.PNG

None of the files are marked as "read-only":

    http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/6421/FileProperties.PNG

But the plan is amrked as such... However, the name of the map can be changed. (As seen when I changed it to 'h' instead of 'World of Warcraft' to see if it would somehow effect). The names of the files, however, cannot.

    http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/9439/mapproperties.PNG

When I try to change the map to 'no read-only', simply unchecking the box and try 'apply' or 'ok', I get the same response from the computer I get when I try to delete the files: no way I'll do .

I tried to do since the mode without failure of the laptop with the same exact results. I am the only admin on the computer (in fact, I'm the only account outside the 'guest' one) and Yes, I am enrolled in the two-person-list, who is an administrator (which is strange in itself, because, as I said, the other account should not exist even) have the files.

Of course I can't open the files, because the programs they were running with disappeared with uninstalling WoW.

    http://img707.imageshack.us/img707/5599/Openen.PNG

And this is my story. If nobody here knows, suggestions to other places that they might know are also welcome.

Try to use one of the following free products to remove the file/folder.  Unlocker to: http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/Unlocker.shtml or file Assassin http://www.malwarebytes.org/fileassassin.php (with or without forcing the deletion: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/12/27/force-delete-cannot-delete-locked-or-in-used-files-or-folders-with-fileassassin/). These programs often work when normal functions remove Vista not work correctly.

If this does not work, it may be a permissions problem.  Try to give permission in their own right and also appropriate.  Here is information on how to do these two things:

To view your permissions, right-click on the file/folder, click Properties, and check the Security tab.  Check the permissions you have by clicking on your user name (or group of users).  Here are the types of permissions, you may have: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/What-are-permissions.  You must be an administrator or owner to change the permissions (and sometimes, being an administrator or even an owner is not sufficient - there are ways to block access (even if a smart administrator knows these ways and can move them - but usually should not because they did not have access, usually for a very good reason).)  Here's how to change the permissions of folder under Vista: http://www.online-tech-tips.com/windows-vista/set-file-folder-permissions-vista/.  To add take and the issuance of right of permissions and ownership in the right click menu (which will make it faster to get once it is configured), see the following article: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/05/21/take-and-grant-full-control-permissions-and-ownership-in-windows-7-or-vista-right-click-menu/.

To resolve this problem with folders, appropriating the files or the drive (as an administrator) and give you all the rights.  Right-click on the folder/drive, click Properties, click the Security tab and click on advanced and then click the owner tab.  Click on edit, and then click the name of the person you want to give to the property (you may need to add if it is not there--or maybe yourself). If you want that it applies to subfolders and files in this folder/drive, then check the box to replace the owner of subcontainers and objects, and click OK.  Back and now there is a new owner for files and folders/player who can change the required permissions.  You can change now switched to read-only (even if the main folder indicates that they are always read-only - you can access yourself as the owner).  You can keep them in read-only to other users, customers and administrators even (although they can support themselves and access, if they wish, and it is really not that you can do to stop it except protect the file with a password by using a 3rd party product.)  Here is more information on the ownership of a file or a folder: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/67717-take-ownership-file.html.  To add take ownership in the menu of the right click (which will make it faster to get once it is configured), see the following article: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/add-take-ownership-to-explorer-right-click-menu-in-vista/.

If this does not work, try to reinstall WOW and then uninstall it with Revo http://www.snapfiles.com/reviews/revo-uninstaller/revouninstaller.html instead of using the option to uninstall Vista (Revo does a better job and can cope with these two files during the process).

Good luck and I hope this helps!

  • How install to reinstall Windows Vista without a disk on Ubuntu Linux (although I have a valid product key)?

I have an Acer Aspire 3100 computer laptop comes with Windows Vista, I am not on the number of bits, sure that the processor in this system supports 64-bit operating systems. I was curious to know if there was a way for me to download Windows Vista from Microsoft online and burn it to a CD or a DVD if I have a valid product key supplied with the system. Is it possible to do this? Thank you.

    You can not download Vista.

In this case, you may be able to buy Acer recovery disks, if you have not created some when you first the computer.

If you can borrow a Vista DVD (a copy retail, not supplied by manufacturer), you can reinstall since using your product key.

See here for more information on installing and reinstalling Windows Vista.

You did not mention what edition of Vista you purchased, or is it a version upgrade or full of detail; However, it is never advisable to buy the software, especially Windows operating systems, via a website selling at auction, ANY auction site because the likelihood of receiving counterfeit goods is extremely high.

It is also quite possible that this software, would it not be counterfeit, has already been installed on another computer.  If so, the product key will be displayed as it is already in use.

There is no deactivation process, if you mean that you can not activate vista because the online activation has failed, use the phone activation, do not say/enter anything, eventually meets a real person, explain your away from the previous system and installed on a new system (I guess that Vista is a commercial version)

  • Virus: PAK Genereric.012 must be removed and me unable to access all things related to Vista, such as photos, control panel and Documents.

I urgently need help. The first signs of this was when I tried to open My Documents. It was yesterday. He had said "Windows has stopped working" and then went ahead to tell me "Now Windows restarts" and proceeded to do so. I had thought that nothing of him at this time and thought it would work the next day. I was wrong. "I tried to access my control panel, but the same: Windows has stopped working ' warning had popped up, followed by the" Windows is now restart. " That's when I tried to get it working again. But in the Google search, you told me to look for something on my search for start and run as admin, and then type "sfc/scannow" into something and press ENTER. "." I hope there is another way, other than that, because this does not work for me. Then I did a reboot of the system, to two hours before, in what has been recommended because I didn't know how to change it. Then, I gave up and thought "I'm not absolutely need, none of this until that school is starting again, so hopefully it will fix itself". Then arises Trend Micro Internet Security Pro and says

    «Infected gile: ee2fad [1] .exe»

    (see location)

Name of the threat: PAK Generic.012

    Suggestion of Trend Micro:

An incurable virus has infected any of your files. Please try to delete the file or run the analysis again later to prevent the infection from spreading. Click on help for additional suggestions. »

I tried to remove it manually, do my files by accessing online something who would want me to download something, so opening my files. The location was: "C:\Users\Jacky\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\7KSNJPK9\ee2fad[1].exe.

I had learned to: "C:\Users\Jacky\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows" but has not found the temporary Internet files. I then looked online how can I delete Temporary Internet Files without a control panel, since I am not able to access it. I deleted the temporary internet files from IE 8. And am running a full scan with Trend Micro. Alas, I am now come to your site to ask for help on the way out of this so that I won't have to replace my laptop with a new. Please, please help as much as you can.

While you can try some things to fix this problem yourself, you really need help and advice of experts.

This is compliments of PA bear MS MVP:

    1. see if you can download/run the MSRT tool manually:http://www.microsoft.com/security/malwareremove/default.mspx

NB: Run the FULL scan, not analysis FAST!  You may need to download the MSRT on an uninfected machine and then transfer the MRT. EXE to the infected machine and rename it to SCAN. EXE before running it.

2A. WinXP-online Windows Live Safety Center scanner 'Protection' (only!) in Mode safe mode with networking, if necessary:http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/center/howsafe.htm

2B. Vista or Win7-online this scanner instead: http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/center/whatsnew.htm

    3. now post the logs required in a forum appropriate for support by an expert in the field. DON'T SKIP THIS STEP!

I can recommend the assistance of experts available in these forums: http://spywarehammer.com/simplemachinesforum/index.php?Board=10.0 http://www.spywarewarrior.com/viewforum.php?f=5 http://www.dslreports.com/Forum/Cleanup http://www.Bluetack.co.uk/forums/index.php and http://Aumha.net/viewforum.php?f=30

If these procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, good reputation and stand-alone computer (that is, not BigBoxStoreUSA or Geek Squad) repair facility.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck.

  • Disappearance of files in Vista

Twice within two weeks all my documents are gone.  I looked in Windows Explorer and found that they are in users\temp\backup, but I can't access this place to return to my folder.  Any suggestions?

Log on as administrator.  Go to the Temp made folder right-click on it and click on properties, then security and add you right (both on the front page and on the advanced special section) and give you the property.  You should then be able to access and move the files.

Here is additional information on the ownership and permissions if necessary:

To view your permissions, right-click on the file/folder, click Properties, and check the Security tab.  Check the permissions you have by clicking on your user name (or group of users).  Here are the types of permissions, you may have:http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/What-are-permissions.  You must be an administrator or owner to change the permissions (and sometimes, being an administrator or even an owner is not sufficient - there are ways to block access (even if a smart administrator knows these ways and can move them - but usually should not because they did not have access, usually for a very good reason).)  Here's how to change the permissions of folder under Vista:http://www.online-tech-tips.com/windows-vista/set-file-folder-permissions-vista/. To add take and the issuance of right of permissions and ownership in the right click menu (which will make it faster to get once it is configured), see the following article:http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/05/21/take-and-grant-full-control-permissions-and-ownership-in-windows-7-or-vista-right-click-menu/.

To solve this problem with folders, folders takeownership or the reader (as an administrator) and give you all the rights. Here is more information on the ownership of a file or a folder:http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/67717-take-ownership-file.html. To add take ownership in the menu of the right click (which will make it faster to get once it is configured), see the following article:http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/add-take-ownership-to-explorer-right-click-menu-in-vista/.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!
