  I have a HP probook 450 GO with Windows 7 pro 64-bit installed.

  Windows 7 32-bit is hardcoded only address 4 GB of TOTAL memory. If you have 4 GB of RAM and 1 GB of video RAM, your video card gets 1 GB which means now Windows has only 3 GB of memory left to address (even if you have 4 GB of free RAM). The other 0,47 GB is probably reserved for other hardware components (or buffer just as your reserved chipset). You can actually dig into the Device Manager and (with a little math) understand exactly the amount of memory is reserved for each component.   EAP is a feature that allows to address more than 4 GB of memory with 32 - bit. I * think * Win7 32-bit installs the core EAP (ntkrnlpa.exe and ntkrpamp.exe in c:\windows\system32) because it has other features for newer processors, but even the PAE-enabled kernel is still hardcoded to a 4 GB max memory addressable (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Physical_Address_Extension#Microsoft_Windows). So I would say that the patch is trying to hack in and remove the 4 GB limit so that you can fully use EAP to address more than 4 GB. Aside from possibly violate the windows license agreement, you won't see any problems. Or you might eventually see some of the problems that Mark Russinovich describes as possible when the client systems use EAP for > 4 GB:

  What they find is that many systems would crash, hang or be initialized because some device drivers, usually those for video and audio devices that are found generally on clients, but no servers, no were not programmed to wait physics treats more than 4 GB. Thus, the drivers truncated such addresses, having for result of memory corruptions and the side effects of corruption.   Most computers will have an allocation for the reserved equipment. So with 4 GB installed RAM it is common to see only 2.8 to 3.2 GB usable. An allowance to graphics is common.

  In order to use 4 GB RAM three different factors are important.

  (1) BIOS
  (2) chipset
  (3) OS

  You will be able to use 4 GB of RAM if these 3 parts provide support for 4 GB RAM.

  Win 7 64 bit is 4 GB of RAM, so you should check first the capable chipset.
  Check chipset in your laptop computer and research on the Intel page for details if 4 GB of RAM are supported.
  If 4 GB of RAM are supported by the chipset then the BIOS does not appear to provide support for 4 GB.

I'm curious to know if my computer can handle more.  I know it's common in Win 32-bit OS, but I have a 64-bit operating system.  Any ideas why this could be?

  All modern computers will lose usually a few hundred megabytes of memory, usually due to various assignments set aside for the workspace for the equipment to be used.

  For example, in our W530 NVidia cards want a memory of 256 MB of system memory buffer, they can write to freely, so that memory can be attributed to normal or software programs. This video card, in fact, already allocated if it can communicate back with the CPU using very large spreading of the transfers. There is an additional 48 MB buffer card allocated so, so there are 304MB consumed by itself.

  Video cards are, by FAR, the largest consumer. The audio card, by example, 16 k, the SD card reader snarfs a paltry 256 bytes, and Intel management engine takes _16_ bytes in total. The different PCI-Express bus hubs that are logically within the laptop be 1 MB each, and there are 4, etc.

  So, Yes, losing approximately 330 MB on the quiet mode of NVidia and more like 450MO mode Optimus (where two video cards are activated) is perfectly reasonable and fine. That 330MB is almost exactly the byte that I do not have available on my 32GB W530, by comparison, so yes it's memory none of us have. And I lose a little more in mode Optimus (as well as to deal with the annoying problem of two-tone YouTube) so by and far I run in quiet mode straight, unless a theft in progress, then I turn to the integrated manually mode.

  As to "Reinstall" mode Optimus drivers, there is a separate small video-switch/router driver in place that handles the interface between two video cards because they share the outputs; so for Windows, Yes, it's a different video interfacing w card / NVidia card mode mode versus non-Optimus, Optimus is different. It is more this material of switching in the middle. Ditto the side Intel if never start you in '' integrated '' mode, Windows will be "Reinstall" the drivers Intel. It is actually the non-Intel Optimus driver for the first time configuration.
