USB 3.0 drives

I was support of up to 3 external drives USB 2.0 different on XP now for 10 years.  I have 2 computers still under XP Pro, the rest are running Win7.

My question is this, I recently bought a USB drive external Iomega that supports USB 3.0, but says it is also backward compatible with the 2.0.

Well, I can write and read files to and from the drive without problem.

But when I tried to use the same backup applications that I used for 7 years now (engineering 8.0) and EaseUS backup fails with a fatal error and is abandoned.

I wonder if the USB drivers on my computer in trouble with the Reader 3.0 OR encryption of crazy virtual CD that most drive manufacturers throw on our days by default.

Someone at - it experience with these issues?

Yes, USB 3.0 for Win7 drivers come from the host controller provider, not Microsoft.

These drivers may not be compatible with specific software, or have other questions. Unfortunately, this is the situation with USB 3 before Win8.  For assistance, contact Easeus.

This package contains the HP System Event Utility, which allows the special function keys on the laptop to program models. For example, HP System Event Utility allows users to press the Fn + ESC keys to view system information. This package is provided for the supported models running a supported operating system.

  • Portege R100: Recover the CD USB 2.0 drive?

I need to reset my Portege R100 to factory settings, erasing the hard drive and remove all documents and programs. I don't have a Toshiba CD-ROM drive, only a CD/DVD of LaCie USB 2.0 drive. It worked with other laptops, but I can't get the R100 to start with it.

    Does anyone have a suggestion?

    Hi soren,.

Maybe you know that you can start from the CD-ROM when you push the 'C' button for aprox. 3 seconds when you press the power button. But it's only for internal solutions.
In your question, you could test whether it works when you push "U". 'U' stands for USB device!

    Hello

I just bought a Toshiba 250 GB Usb external hard drive because the seller advised me telling me that it works in my iBook G4 Mac OSX computer.

I made it and I see it on my desktop with a folder called System Volume Information and 2.32 GB available.

I tried to copy a file and I got a message saying that the disk is not editable.

Where can I find the instructions to initialize if it's compatible?

    Thanks in advance,

    Hello

I would really appreciate the help. I own a satellite 1800-712. I have receently bought a usb external hard drive for some extra memory (IE Toshiba MK4026GAX USB Device)

When I connect it to my usb port it records any with the computer. The green light so there is power to the hard drive. The usb ports recognized of other fine features (a modem and memory stick)

I tried the external hard drive on a desktop pc and it works fine.

I have downloaded all windows xp service pack updates and updated my bios. Don't know what to do now.

Please help and thank you in advance!

    Hello

Although sometimes, I know that the OS is not able to recognize the external USB device, because the device external USB (HDD) consumes more energy than the 500mA.
The USB ports provide 500mA power and if the device needs more power so it s is not possible for the Windows operating system to recognize the external device.
You have an external power supply for the USB HDD? You should use it.

    Good bye

  • Portege 3480CT: how to make a USB bootable floppy drive?

I need help to make a USB bootable floppy drive.
My laptop 3480CT has not the traditional floppy drive instead, it uses a USB floppy drive and the bios has an option to boot from USB FDD.

I would like to use a USB key to start (a Lexar Jumpdrive 32 MB 05dch 0080 h and GTX 1 GB 1516 h pid pid 8628 h), instead of the floppy. I want to load the boot XP on floppies, so I run recovery programs using chkdsk.

I tried the usual suspects, the bootloader makebootfat and mkbt20 HP.
I tried the demo version of the commercial product Flashboot.
I photographed a floppy back 5.0 system on the USB key using the I-Setup demo.
All failed including the specific option in the makebootfat images for FDD option and 3 different options of Flashboot.

    I ran
    http://Enos.itcollege.EE/~mkalme/Pahn/tut/tut.html

Using Hexplorer ICY, I was able to confirm that the DOS5.0 on the boot sector pendrive is identical to the diskette.
I could start in Dos5.0 from a floppy disk with drivers USB Panasonic and confirm that my Lexar was a system of 1.44 MB disk and command.com displayed in the directory. The GXT is not recognized by the Panasonic, nor BACK USB drivers to Duse 4.4 4.9. Another worrying indicator, it is my computer XP did not see all of the files on the pendrives, not command.com, or two hidden files (view all the hidden files option).

I learned that Transcend a specific option that creates a bootable 1.44 mb floppy
    image on their USB key.

Here is what I have gathered, corrections and suggestions are welcome.

Interface USB the USB protocol specifications

    bInterfaceSubClass field specifies the Protocol
01 order reduced block (RBC) a flash device
UFI 04 a floppy drive floppy drive
05 FDD SFF-8070i SFF-8070i command blocks however, funding may be in a different subclass for example RBC

bInterfaceProtocol field specifies the transport protocol
00 control/Bulk/Interrupt (CBI) with break of completion for FFD only
01 CBI without interruption of completion for the FDD only
transport in bulk only 50 h, including priming

I don't know if the USB controller must imitate the FDD Protocol.

    Any ideas?

    Hello

You cannot boot from the USB key.
The BIOS of the laptop does not support something like that.
Laptop factory supports and use different BIOS versions. As far as I know on this laptop Toshiba BIOS was installed.

To my knowledge this BIOS does not support booting from the USB key, but only the HDD, ODD, LAN or USB - FDD.
If you want to boot from USB FDD, you can create a bootable FDD floppy.
Windows operating system creates the boot floppy drive when you right click on the connected floppy drive and select format. Then simply choose the option create MS-DOS startup disk start.

  • CANVIO SLIM - 2.5 "- 500 GB - SILVER - USB 3.0 driver"

Hey everybody. I am looking for a SLIM CANVIO 2.5 "- 500 GB - SILVER - USB 3.0 driver for my Macbook pro." I can't get date part part Driver Downloads. Does anyone know how to get around this problem?

    See you soon

I assume you are talking about this HARD drive
    http://www.Toshiba.EU/hard-drives/portable/Canvio-slim-for-Mac/hdtd205esmda/

It is a USB HDD and it requires no driver

But he needs Max 900mA power (its USB3.0). This means that a USB 2.0 port common provides 500mA alone and probably you use a Y USB cable to connect the 2 USB ports HARD drive.

  • Toshiba USB external hard drive 250GB shows only the red light - sound of rattling

My USB HD external drive to Toshiba aged 16 months stopped working yesterday. It shows just a flashing red light
and makes a slight clicking noise. Of course, we cannot guarantee any more. But all my backups are on this drive,
This means almost 10 years of work destroyed if I cannot access this disc more. Someone knows what to do to fix
    This problem?

    Post edited by: admin

I put t know what the flashing red LED could mean, but it looks like a HARD disk head crash. Perhaps you could find some details in the user manual that the flashing light means.

However, he still stupid s cases of dysfunction of a backup media situation. I had a similar problem with my 2.5 100 GB USB HDD. After about 3 years of work, the HARD drive died and I was not able to access the HARD disk. I was a lucky man because I have backup my data also on the DVD so I was able to restore the files and data.

What to say maybe s possible to save data, but professional help would be necessary. Maybe you should contact technicians for assistance.

Best regards and good luck buddy

  • Windows 8 and USB external hard drives

I want a new dv7 with Windows 8 and an Iomega Prestige 1 TB external hard drive I use successfully on Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 systems. It behaves erratically in Windows 8. Sometimes it is not recognized at all. Sometimes it is, but trying to access it via Explorer, Windows crashes requiring a diet forced down. Other times, you can access it with success and even copy a file to it with Solution Explorer, but if you try to copy multiple files with the same drag and drop, it displays the calculation time to copy file window, but the calculation done so forever, just stays there. Also, when you try an Xcopy in the prompt with mutiple files and / or files, copy the first file he is suspended from the command window. The system has a newly updated BIOS and all installed Windows updates. Ideas?

Tried moving the Iomega for a USB 3.0 drive (the drive is 3.0 and 2.0 compatible) 2.0 in Windows 8 port and it now works fine. No idea whether the problem with USB 3.0 with Windows 8, HP or Iomega.

    Mr. Lenovo,

I used a new cable this morning. The player had made a backup in an hour and twenty minutes.

This is the first time I experienced a bad USB cable. Always a first time.

The only difference that I noticed this trial, has been anything but downloaded unit on 7 GBs in

tweny minutes, it took an hour to complete the last 7 GBs. We'll see how it works

    thereafter.

You can close this investigation. Consider that everything accomplished.
